Personal responsibility is taking charge of ones learning. To me that means getting my assignments done on time, studying for tests and admitting my mistakes. Being responsible is not an easy task; it is a behavior that takes a lot of patience and effort. Responsibility requires practice. It just doesn’t apply to education either. Personal responsibility applies to all aspects of life including career and parenthood. Personal responsibility is taking charge of ones own actions. We are all humans and make mistakes but how we handle those mistakes defines us. Many things such as family and instructors play a key role in my education. They help me study and encourage me when I want to give up but overall my educational success is dependent on my personal responsibility. I tend to not wait around for people to make my educational choices. When it comes to studying for a test, as a student who has achieved personal responsibility, I make a schedule for my studies. I believe a person can be one of two things when it comes to personal responsibility in life. A person can be a creator or a victim. I tend to be a creator. I accept what I am doing is not working and I make an effort to change it. Where as a victim will not accept his mistakes and continue doing the same thing. I do not want to be someone who makes excuses for her failures. The reason each person is personally responsible for their success in college is motivation. My motivation determines how I prioritize things. To ensure my success in college I plan on improving my study habits. I tend to procrastinate a lot and it can be very stressful at times to cram everything into a short time frame. I need to manage my time better and prioritize my tasks. There is never enough time in a day and I tend to think that there is always tomorrow. However life is full of mysteries and you never know what tomorrow could bring. Outside my education this applies to work and family. There are so many things that I want to do that I need to stop putting off. Life is short. Also I need to become a better communicator with my instructor and team members. Often times I don’t like to ask for help. I like to do things on my own and this even carries into my work field. Becoming a manager at my job, communication is key. I am learning new skills each day that I hope will carry over into my education. But I know that I need to be a personally responsible student and not fear asking my professor or classmates for help. They are there to help. This applies outside of education also. People should not be afraid to ask for help or clarification when they don’t understand something. Also, I believe attitude is a big part of personal responsibility. When someone has a negative attitude about something the outcome tends to be negative. When it comes to my education and personal life, I plan on having a “can do” attitude. Something a little bit more positive then what I am used to.

You need a lot of self-discipline to be a personal responsible student. Things often get in out way like parties and games. Sometimes friends even peer pressure you. However having the drive to want to succeed in college will help you assume personal responsibility. I think the key is having the motivation to want to succeed, the motivation to want a better future. Also, having a good self-esteem is essential. How you portray yourself on the outside is how you deeply feel on the inside. Most people tend to give an attitude of not caring. They believe themselves to be failures. If you look at yourself in a positive way and no your strengths and weaknesses then personal responsibility will be easier. A lot of things influence how we look at ourselves; we just need to all believe that we can achieve anything we set our minds to. Who wouldn’t want that?

...Personal Responsibility Essay “Ultimately, whatever is in your reality is your responsibility.” (Neta) I have been the responsibility of others for the first 18 years of my life. My parents have been responsible for taking care of me, sending me to school and ensuring my younger education, my meals, roof under my head, making sure I stay out of trouble and so forth. I have been the responsibility of babysitters, other family members and teachers. Never did I know or pay attention to how much personal responsibility means. Once I turned 18 years of age, I then found out what personal responsibility was all about and what it meant. “How else can children learn personal responsibility if they do not see the adults in their lives display the same quality.” (Rose, 1996) Personal responsibility is taking responsibility for your actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions and understanding that what you do impacts those around you. To me this means that instead of blaming others for an action or outcome done by you, you own up to it and takes responsibility for yourself. Also, being aware of what is right and wrong and being aware of what I should do in order to achieve what I want. After a certain point in your life you must take personal responsibility for yourself and your actions. Once you leave your parent’s house and responsibility, you have your own....

How do I practice personal responsibility? These are questions that have boggled the mind of every individual at different stages of their lives. The definition of personal responsibility varies from person-to-person, but the popular meaning focuses on the concept that every action has a consequence. Personal responsibility was embedded on my mind at an early age. It was part of my upbringing and learning process. I can still hear my mother saying: “If you do not do your homework, you cannot watch TV”, “If you do not clean your room, you cannot go outside.” Possessing the understanding of how actions have consequences, either positive or negative, is essential to thrive and achieve personal, professional, and academic success. As I matured and developed my intellect, the meaning of personal responsibility became more than just making myself accountable, it also includes doing what is correct, taking charge of my life, and placing the blame on myself for the drawbacks and repercussions that my actions brings. Achieving success in my academic, professional, and individual goals depends on the acceptance of personal responsibility with my education, family, community, and health....

I believe that if you want something badly enough in your life, you have to work hard and dedicate yourself to your personal responsibilities. Your personal responsibilities involve setting goals and priorities as well as using time management wisely. Part of your personal responsibility is to set goals.
