Personal Views Ethics Essay
Capella University

In summary my test results were middle of the road, which is what I had expected. Although I do believe ethics is an important piece of the business puzzle, it can be hard to totally buy into ethics as the world is bubbling with corruption. I found my results to be valid in my current situation and the business decisions I face every day. I don’t think that the 5 ethics myths really relate to me or my current situation. I can however see where they could possibly come into play. Myth number is best applied to my current employment in that we do a lot of hiring and firing, and without ethical procedure it could easily get out of hand. Turnover would be 10 fold if the decisions were based unethically and the corporation didn’t set forth any standards. Myth number also holds so validity for me as many of the decisions at work are made by a large group of people vs an individual, sure everyone single one of my employees have to make decisions every single day based on their personal values and morals, but ethics as a whole is decided by a group of people. That group of people doesn’t necessarily make decisions on a case by case basis, but they lay the ground work for individuals to follow in order to produce an ethical outcome. Decision making in the work place much of the time is done for me. I take a certain situation and place into a preformed mold if you will. That mold has several different paths and outcomes based on the circumstances involved. If I were to implore my own ethics into my workplace many decisions would have very different outcomes. Many of my decisions would be based on fairness, but also on work ethic, dedication and knowledge. Mandy of the decisions I make are centered on people, not money. Money and ethics would be another story

Therefore, all this set of principles applies in any of the fields of business (marketing, finance…) and people inevitably face ethical decisions in their every day working lives. The aim is to make every employee adhere to these standards because obviously, it is more profitable for a company to be ethical in business. But, as ethical issues are linked to decision-making, how can all decisions be ethical and above all whose responsibility is it? Therefore, we could wonder if business ethics is a personal responsibility or a group responsibility. We are going to divide this essay into two parts, the thesis and the antithesis, in order to determine whether or not business ethics is a personal responsibility. We can write a custom essay on Business Ethics for you! Values are very important as they are the core of our culture. Ethics Essay

...Ethics Essay In this essay I will compare the similarities and differences between virtue theory, utilitarianism, and deontological ethics. I will also include the following in this essay a description of the differences in how each theory addresses ethics and morality, and a personal experience to explain the relationship between virtue, values, and moral concepts as they relate to one of the three theories Utilitarianism is a moral theory that argues that an action is right if and only if it conforms to the principle of utility. The theory accepts as true that there was a need for society to rely on reason rather than metaphysics. The central tenet of utilitarianism is what is called the “Greatest Happiness Principle’. Because the human beings are rational self-interested creatures, they seek to maximize their pleasure and minimize their pain. Deontologists hold that right actions are defined by duty. Once we know what it is that we are duty bound to do morally, then we can carry out this ‘natural’ right action regardless of the consequences. What matters, they argue, is that we do what is right what is right, and what is right is that which conforms to moral law. The Virtue Theory concept is for human beings to live well. The end or final cause of human existence is eudaimonia. Eudaimonia is most commonly translated as ‘happiness’, but a more accurate translation is ‘flourishing’. Part of being human is to live a fulfilled life. A eudaimon life is a life that...

Personal Responsibility

...Personal responsibility means to me holding yourself accountable for not only the successes in your life but also your downfalls. If a person can do this they will not only be successful in their education but in their careers and life in general. Even though some people who lack personal responsibility do just fine in life, personal responsibility will lead to my success in and beyond school because it gives me the confidence to succeed, and will lead to a better life for my family and me. Now as to my approach for this paper I am writing this essay according to The Descriptive Essay (2011), "The descriptive essay is a genre of essay that asks the student to describe an object, person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc. This genre encourages the student’s ability to create a written account of a particular experience. What is more, this genre allows for a great deal of artistic freedom (the goal of which is to paint an image that is vivid and moving in the mind of the reader).” (para. 1). I believe the goals of this essay lend themselves better to a descriptive essay than they do an expository essay. According to "The Expository Essay" (2011), "The expository essay is a genre of essay that requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner. This can be accomplished through comparison and contrast, definition, example, the analysis of cause and effect, etc...

...Writing Essay This essay is about a class that I took while I was at HSSU. It was a wonderful class even though it was online but the teacher made it clear and telling us that the only way we can learn in this class is if we read the textbook. The textbook got a lot of information in it; that made it so clear that I couldn’t put the book down after I got used to reading it, and I am thankful for this class o relate to the real world now. So I am not going to waste all the details in the introduction and I am going to let you read this essay. Ethics is the study of what is right or wrong, good or bad, in which we are responsible for our actions in areas such as etiquette, professional codes, legal and religious codes. Ethics also can be a thought of an attempt or reasonable manner to basic questions. An example of ethics is just like going to play the guitar other than getting your mother a birthday gift or giving her the trip of her dreams to make her happy. The best thing to do is the right thing and not the wrong thing. At the end you would want your mother to have the best and the world in many different ways. Ethics involve a clear mind of goals and personal events that help you through things to get a better understanding. Ethical issues a problem or situation that requires a person or organization to choose between alternatives that must be evaluated as right (ethical) or wrong (unethical). Psychological egoism is good to tell things and argue them. A lot of people...

My Ethics

...Personal ethics come from a system of ethical principles that a person may use to make decisions. Personal ethics are matured over years and shaped by the environment and individuals around each person. My personal ethics guide my everyday behavior. My personal ethic’s system has grown and matured over the years. My personal ethic system has developed over the past 33 years mainly My personal ethics came from my parents growing up and was also influenced by friends through high school years. I believe that my character would include trustworthiness, responsible, loving, caring, respectful, empathy, faith, practical, and confident. My character would use those characteristics to guide my moral actions. Personal ethics are what determine an individual’s beliefs of right and wrong. I believe that an individual gains their personal ethics by the way that they are raised and the paths that they choose to follow. My personal ethical preferences began at home, from my parents, and family. My parents gave me the first look at what was right and what was wrong, according to what they had previously learned from their parents and their life experiences. They taught me to have respect for others; please and thank you were a must. Within my family religion headed me in a variety of directions. The second line of ethical beliefs comes from the people that I chose to affiliate myself with. Even if their intentions were good or bad, my decision to follow or defer was a direct reflection...

The study of human actions has intrigued many scientists over the ages hence the different disciplines of ethics (i.e. deontological, utilitarian, and virtue ethics). How would you explain the difference between ethics and morality? Provide an example of morality and one of ethics in your explanation.    Ethics are codes of conduct that pertain to a community, family, company or a nation. On the other hand, morality refers to personal sets of beliefs about what is right and wrong.  People have their own morals that may or may not be in sync with society’s ethics. Morality and ethics are two words that are closely interrelated. This is why it is common for people to make incorrect usage. It is better to understand the meanings of two words before highlighting their difference. While ethics refers to a code of behavior in reference to a group, whether it is family, community or a nation, morals are more personal in nature. Ethics in a social system refers to a philosophy morality finds application. Ethics is a very broad term and you can have family ethics, company ethics, social ethics or even national ethics. These are socially accepted codes of behavior applicable in immediate surroundings. For example, there are do’s and don’ts in a company that makes up its ethics and when you are inside the premises of a company, you behave accordingly while you are much more relaxed when you are in your family where there might be another set of ethics. ...Ethics Essay Anders Frederiksen ETH/316 December 18, 2014 Lacey Berumen Ethics Essay Virtue theory at the most base level begins with the hypothesis that at some basic level everyone strives for the same thing ending with “eudaimonia” which according to the Encyclopedia Britannica (2014) literally means “the state of having a good indwelling spirit, a good genius” while the common translation of “happiness” is sorely inadequate and the ideas within virtue ethics are a collection of normative ethical principals, that focus on being instead of doing, while the concept that someone interested in life should not want the best or the highest achievement is quite puzzling (Everitt, 2007), this view holds that people gain good habits and that in turn will inform correct moral choices. Utilitarianism is another normative set of ethics that base the concepts of morality on wording such as “ought,” “good,” and “wrong” having intrinsic meaning to the community that is irremovable from the ethics or morals of a given action and utility for the community (Ewing, 1948). While during the formation of this theory there was much focus on hedonistic ethics, which was “pleasant” or “conducive of pleasure” while false it was a common view (Ewing, 1948). The deontological case for ethics focuses on the idea of duty, Deon is Greek for duty and thus sets the main core of the theory from the outset (Manias, 2013). Deontological ethics are about following one’s moral duty, found in reason...
