Personalized Medicine and Genetic Technology Genomic Technology or what is more popularly known as Personalize Medicine is the personalization of healthcare, with decisions and practices that are tailored to an individual patient. This involves the process of the use of genetic technology or other gathering of information of an individual patient’s preventative and therapeutic care. After more than a decade the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health received a decade of research which was gathered from the Genome Project, (2003). Under this project the Scientist were to learn the order of 3 billion units of DNA which goes into the making of human genome and also to identify the genes located in all this data. By 2003 there was enough chemical makeup that it was pronounced a success. The information received from the Genome project will forever transform the healthcare industry. Many believe personalized medicine is the future of medicine, just the next step in the world of human genetics. Genome is the whole entirety of an organism. It is encoded either in DNA or for different viruses in RNA. The genome has the genes and the non coding sequences of DNA and RNA. The prospects of examining a person’s whole genome and make individual health risk predictions and treatment is within reach. Researchers at Mount Sinai School of Medicine along with researchers from Loyola University Chicago School of Medicine made a discovery that may lead scientists to stop using broad conventional ethnic labels of African American, Hispanic and Caucasian to find a patient’s genetic risk for disease (Science Daily (May 4, 2011).
