Personal Responsibility Eric B. Mimms University of Phoenix GEN/200: Foundations for General Education & Professional Success Group Number: MU09GEN06 Mr. Marlin 11/03/2012

Personal Responsibility Even though students with low levels of personal responsibility also graduate, personal responsibility is critical for a successful college career because students who display a high level of personal responsibility have higher GPAs and students with high levels of personal responsibility graduate at a higher rate. It is the belief that a student’s level of personal responsibility is directly proportional to his grades and success. Therefore, high level of personal responsibility will equal a high GPA and high level of success. To achieve a successful college career a student must commit to becoming personally responsible for his success. If we take student A, who from the beginning of college, commits to doing everything in his power to be successful. This student is taking personal responsibility for his college career. He has already made up his mind to be responsible and therefore will achieve success on most levels. Take student B who does not take any personal responsibility for his college career. This student will always have excuses for why his academic success is lacking. Examples can be “the computers were down” or “my teacher is not competent.”. It is a fact that students with a high level of personal responsibility graduate at a higher rate. A student that dedicates three to four hours a day for studying and to complete homework will get better test scores and grades than a student who does only the bare minimum. When a student consistently studies and prioritizes his workload he will always be successful. These traits are examples of personal responsibility. The most important reason personal responsibility is critical for a successful college career is that students who display a high level of personal responsibility have higher GPA s. Any student who has a high GPA will almost always graduate. Graduating college is the number one reason students enroll in the first place. Very few students start college by telling themselves that they just want to go for a semester or two drop out. Some people could argue that students with low personal responsibility and low GPA s still graduate. This is very much possible but few and in between. Also those that graduate with low GPA s are more likely to go un hired in the workforce or have significantly lower starting salaries. In conclusion although students with low levels of personal responsibility also graduate, personal responsibility is critical for a successful college career for two main reasons. First, students with high levels of personal responsibility graduate at a higher rate. Most important, students who display a high level of personal responsibility have higher GPA s.

Delegation

...These changes have subsequently led to the emergence need of registered nurses having to work with personnel who will assist them in their work. Delegation of tasks is important so that the nurse can have more time to critically reason, plan and coordinate healthcare given to patients. The act of delegating is attributed to the fact that, as a registered nurse, one has greater knowledge and critical reasoning ability than the assistive personnel. As a result, the RN has the responsibility of delegating, assigning and supervising the assistive personnel. According to the NCBSN and the ANA, appropriate delegation of tasks can result in effective and safe nursing care (NCSBN & ANA, 2006). In the case study given, the recently graduated registered nurse (RN) is new in the field, thus does not have enough experience with regard to attending to six patients during the morning shift. Six patients are too many for the new RN thus, need for the UHCW. Delegation of duties as stated earlier on should be done so that the registered nurse gets enough time to complete tasks that require his or her specialized attention and knowledge. The reason why the RN has delegated the UHCW to assess the patients’ vital signs is so that he or she can do the final touches with regard to personal hygiene care. This reason is not professional enough in that the RN can use the help of the UHCW in completing the personal hygiene care process. The UHCW can gather up the dressing the used up dressing materials...

...Describe the roles and responsibilities of personnel in relation to infection prevention and control in a health or social care setting In every Health and social care setting, each person has a certain responsibility. Each care worker should be responsible for their own actions with regard to protecting themselves and others from infection. Throughout this essay I will be discussing the roles and responsibilities of care and non-care workers, managers and specialist personnel. In every work place there should be policies set in place. These policies come from the law and make reference to the standard that is legally required in a health and social care setting. These include Fire Escape plans, Health and Safety policies and Infection Control policies. It is the managers responsibility to provide relevant policies to the workplace such as the ones listed above, update these policies regularly, and make these policies accessible to staff. The procedures set in place are a step by step guide which shows the staff exactly what should be done. For example disposal of sharps and a fire procedure which is pictured below. It is all of the staff’s responsibility to know where the policies are, understand them and be able to follow the procedures. It is also necessary for all staff to follow basic hygiene rules such as washing hands appropriately and regularly using the 6 step hand washing technique which is pictured below. It is also the Care staff, for example nurses’...

Hrm Hard and Soft Styles

...Abstract In this assignment, we were given a task to prepare an essay on critical assessment of different approaches to Human Resource Management. Namely the “hard” and “soft” HRM practices identified by Storey (1989). One of the aspects from which the HRM practices will be valued is employer’s attitude towards employees. As those practices are completely different in nature, the way how management treats their workers distinguishes a lot. Therefore, comparative analysis will identify the contrast between the styles. Another aspect from which the HRM practices are going to be assessed is a pay scheme followed in each type of management. Introduction Human Research Management as a practice and tool to manage employees in the organization evolved quite recently. The predecessor of HRM is personnel management, which came into formation due to industrial development around the world. Since the beginning of 20th century many organizations opened personnel departments, which had many responsibilities such as managing payroll, hiring and firing employees. Further tasks of this department in the organizations were to introduce new law requirements, implementation of different social and workplace safety rules. According to Guest (1998) transformation of PM into human resource management began in the end of 20th century. The main reason for development of HRM was shift of western economies towards the services economy. Therefore, quality of services became the competitive advantage...

Secondly to identify human resource issue and look at in British point of view. The studies of HRM by Collins provide us a colourful findings and rich competing theoretical outlook. HRM run through all human resource processes such as recruitment, selection, and performance evaluation as well as formal human resource policies, which direct and to some extent hamper the progress of specific practices; and over arching human resource thought, which state the principles that inform an organization's policies and practices. Ideally, these embrace a system that exert a pull on, develops, motivates, and maintain workers who guarantee the effective operation and survival of the business and its component. To be on familiar terms with HRM in context we must think about how these elements of HRM are affected by the internal and external environments of organizations. ...force above forty that require more specialized skills. Companies are leaning more towards computers, email, and the Internet to be more competitive. In the past it used to be you could not get ahead because of the "glass ceiling", now it is more like the "gray ceiling". The aged work force must take personal responsibility in job hunting, because looks can be an asset or detriment. Experience is no longer a prerequisite for an offer. The U.S. congress passed the ADEA, thinking it was going to protect workers of forty years old and above during the hiring phase. Yet only ten percent of the claims involve the hiring process, the other ninety-percent is wrongful discharge. People are quicker to sue an employer if they were fired rather than during the hiring process. Proving a case for wrongful discharge would be much easier than trying to read someone's state of mind during the interview. In an article by Ira Carnahan, she brings to light an interesting fact; the first decade after passage of ADEA, unemployment among workers fifty-five and above rose from 2.5% to 4. Please note! Organizational Effectiveness

...ascertain if it is effective at fulfilling its mission. This essay will define what organizational effectiveness is, apply theories of organizational effectiveness to the management of criminal justice personnel, as well as describe methods for exerting control in an organizational setting. Organizational effectiveness can be defined as the proficiency in which an organization achieves its desired goals ("Organizational Effectiveness," n.d.). By creating a more efficient, reliable and productive workforce will help an organization meet its desired goal. However, the meaning of effective has a broad meaning in relation to organizational effectiveness because companies and organizations define effectiveness differently. In the criminal justice system the term effectiveness can mean how well the crime rate is controlled or can measure how many reports are received about certain incidents. There is no universal way of measuring the effectiveness of an organization, however, organizations agree universally that organizational effectiveness is a priority. To achieve organizational effectiveness a organization must first have a clear leadership structure. Second, employees must have a clear picture of the what is expected of them, the company policies and procedures, and the organizations values and goals, and last, a positive work environment with leadership that is determined and committed to motivating and developing their personnel. However, there are some things that can...

Importance of Human Resource Management

...Institution Abstract Human Resource Management is defined as the process of hiring and developing employees so that they become more valuable to the organization (Mondy, Noe, & Gowan, 2005). This is a central and strategic organizational activity but at the same time of increasing complexity and importance. It includes recruiting the right people for the job, orienting and training, planning personnel needs, managing wages and salaries, providing benefits and incentives, conducting job analyses, evaluating performance, communicating with all employees at all levels, and resolving disputes. Acquiring an overall view of Human Resource Management with respect to integrating new knowledge includes explanation and examples. Business Succession Plan

...Eddy University of Maryland University College MSAF 670 Section 9040 Turnitin: 10% Introduction At some point in our careers we all want to retire and move aside allowing somebody else to step up to our position and keep the business going. Nearly half of the businesses in the world have thought about this and have a completed business succession plan in place. The remaining businesses have either have an incomplete business succession plan or have not started one at all. This essay will cover the purpose of the business succession plan, why it is a challenge for companies to complete, and a few recommendations to overcome the challenges of a business succession plan. Purpose A business succession plan provides businesses with a set of processes or procedures to follow in different circumstances. Some of those circumstances would be for retiring owners of businesses, the death of a business owner, or disability. In short, it is a process for finding and developing personnel with the potential to fill leadership positions in a business. “Succession planning is a lot like preparing to sell your house-it’s not a good idea to notice your roof needs work or there are cracks in your foundation once your home is listed” (Amato, 2013, p. 46). Challenges There are many reasons as to why business succession plans are a challenge for businesses. For family owned businesses the ability to keep the business in the family is a problem.
