Bullying has been a very challenging issue to resolve for many years. It is increasingly spreading by the use of social media, where most bullies spread malice at the touch of a button. Bullying’s prevalence has lead to numerous consequences such as anxiety, depression, diminished effort in academics, and suicide. Many schools have implemented effective anti-bullying policies to prevent these consequences from occurring, but this school’s current policy hasn’t incorporated strict rules and consequences to battle issues associated with bullying. In order to eliminate bullying as a whole, the school must implement a new policy which imposes strict consequences on bullies. In order to prevent bullying, school administrators and all students must put in a combined effort to ensure a safe environment for every individual. They must also be educated on what bullying is and how it affects an individual. Adults need to “Talk about what bullying is and how to stand up to it safely. Tell kids bullying is unacceptable. Make sure kids know how to get help” (“How to Prevent Bullying”). By knowing the cause and effect of bullying, students can identify it and immediately report it. Students are sometimes afraid to report incidents of bullying, because they are afraid of consequences like dislike and increased conflict with the bully. To prevent this fear, students should be encouraged to speak to an adult without any hesitation. By doing so, “The adult can give comfort, support, and advice, even if they can’t solve the problem directly. Encourage the child to report bullying if it happens” (“How to Prevent Bullying”). Another way to effectively target bullying is to impose serious expectations for all students to follow. According to the American Psychological Association, “Teachers and coaches need to explicitly remind students that bullying is not accepted in school and such behaviors will have consequences.” Consequences like suspension, academic probation, and the inability to participate in school events are serious punishments for bullying another individual for an obscene reason. By educating students on bullying and implementing a series of strict rules, the amount of bullying that takes place in school can be

Persuasive Essay About Bullying

...There have been dozens of cases of students being severely damaged by the symptoms of bullying. A large amount of these occurrences were due to the absence of a school or other neighborhood officials in the situation. But, if schools were to assist a student when bullies are significantly hurting them, lives could be saved. Despite many believing a school should not be responsible with what happens between each of their students outside of the classroom, it is important for a school to step in when a child is being bullied due to parents' inability to help on certain occasions, to prevent a bully’s negative effects on other teenagers, and to lessen high suicide rating due to bullying. One important reason as to why schools should be involved...

School Environment Analysis

...School Environment Analysis Essay Grand Canyon University: EDA-575 February 8, 2012 School Environment Analysis No school is a utopia. Each presents unique problems and challenges, and with that comes opportunities for change and successes. Many times it takes a giant collaborative effort to bring about change, and there are times where it seems that the challenges are insurmountable. I work in a public inner city high school in Syracuse, NY. There are issues within the school including a high drop-out rate, incidences of bullying, little parent involvement, lack of technology, and old school materials. This high school is in a high poverty area, and the surrounding community is not very active or involved with the school. All of these factors combined with many newer teachers in the school and some new members of the administration lead to a school requiring assistance in many areas. In this essay, I will explain many of the environmental and contextual factors and describe some potential solutions to address these factors. One environmental factor influencing my school is the high rate of poverty in the surrounding area of the school. Students are often unprepared for school with proper materials. Education is not been a major priority for many students since it was not very important to their parents or guardians. If students have a little extra money, they will quickly spend it on snacks on their way to school instead of making sure they are......

Obesity

...Obesity is a fast-growing epidemic among young adults due several factors. People are choosing to eat poorly and exercise less. They watch too much TV, play too many video games, eat too much fast food and junk food and are not getting enough exercise or nutrition to balance it out! While many people are healthy and exercise regularly, there is a growing number of adults and children becoming obese. It is costing the NHS millions to deal with the problems that it causes. We are having serious concerns about the number of people becoming ill and being unable to work, because of our overweight people. It' no secret that obesity is a huge issue. The causes of this problem can be social, economic and cultural, all of which determine how much food we eat, and the kind of food we eat, against how much exercise we do. Affecting the entire world, Scotland is one of the worst countries by percentage. According to professionals, "40% of adults in Scotland will be obese by 2030". 40%?! These figures are ridiculous, almost half the country obese in a few short years? Fatty and unhealthy foods. Served in every shop, in every town, in every country. Foods that damage the body, you just can’t get away from them. Being obese puts unnecessary strain on the heart, making the heart pump faster because of the increased amount of body fat. As a result this can cause high blood pressure. Likewise it has been proven that being......

Bullying

...Stella Anderson Persuasive Essay Speech Class 11/19/2014 Bullying: Real Harm Deserves Real Consequences During the school year, children go off to school to get an education. Unfortunately for some, getting a good education can feel almost impossible. Imagine a child not wanting to go to school because they are afraid to. Imagine the child’s grades dropping because they cannot concentrate. Most would agree that they would want to do everything they can for their children to be comfortable going to school and feeling safe. The ongoing and growing problem that is causing such disturbance is bullying. Bullying is a social interaction where a more dominant individual, who is the bully, exhibits aggressive behavior that is intended to, and does, in fact, cause distress to a less dominant individual which is the victim. The aggressive behavior can be direct physical contact and/or a verbal attack that can be direct or indirect (Bullying). Bullying includes harassment, intimidation to varying degrees, taunting and ridicule (Ferrell-Smith). About 50% of high school students said they have bullied someone in the past year. Forty seven percent said they had been bullied, teased or taunted in a way that seriously upset them in the past year. Nearly 40% of bullied girls and 46% of bullied boys in grades 3 through 12 have been bullied a year or longer, yet fewer than 50% of bullied students have told a parent (Billitteri). Many students that are being bullied are suffering silently...

Moving Towards Agreement

...Ten Persuasion Techniques The objective of negotiating is to inspire another person to do something they may not want to do. Some of the tactics of negotiation include persuasion techniques. Persuading others is the art of the process. A little friendly persuasion by Guido, the godfather's henchman, is one way of being persuasive. Encouraging the parties to talk and work things out using persuasion techniques is another. It is all in the approach. Persuasion is often used just to get reluctant participants to talk; to get reluctant adversaries to open up, consider options and discuss the situation. This dialogue is an essential step forward in any negotiation. There are many ways to be persuasive. To improve your negotiation technique, learn to use these 10 persuasion techniques, or recognize when they are being used on you. In most negotiations we assume that the prime motivators are avarice and greed. While almost always present, these motivators are not always the most persuasive techniques available to a negotiator. It is the ability to use more subtle tactics that marks the difference between negotiators. Positive Persuasion Techiques 1. Positive Reinforcement The desire to be liked is very strong in all of us. An effective persuasion technique is the use of classical reinforcement conditioning. The Pavlovian cause and effect relationship model relies on the consistent response, positive or negative, to condition the other person to react in a......

Politicians and Religious Leaders

...Final Essay Nicholas Barnby COM/155 December 8th, 2012 Final Essay Politicians and religious leaders often use messages of fear to convince their supporters that their stances and beliefs are faultless. Throughout history there have been people within positions of power using a specific way to voice their ideals to the masses so that the public can believe in their cause. There are a number of different tools that these people have that can coerce the population in to following the individuals in these seats of power. Usually, the person in power can be a very charming person and has no issues with speaking in a public forum. Natural public speakers can very easily slide into these positions with ease. Over time, the two main seats of power are found within a political and religious setting. At times, the two different factions have combined, making the position of power much more controlling than ever before. With the use of manipulation through fear, political and religious leaders have been able to use this particular method. This way of control is nowhere near a new tactic. In the beginning of life, there is always the aggressor within a group of living organisms. The human race has evolved over time, but there are some, almost instinctual tick that keeps them breaking down into an alpha mentality. The control over the pack using violence or oppression is nothing more than control through fear. Bullying is an example of control through fear that is used......

Violent Video Games

...Research/Persuasive Essay Violent Video Games “Children on Murder Simulators:” Violent Video Games as Practice for Real Life A very controversial issue in today’s world is violent video games. Do they have an affect on adolescents? Do they influence their actions and thoughts? Over the past couple of years there have been cases of school shootings. In particular the Columbine High School Shooting and Virginia Tech Massacre were both influenced by violent video games. In the Columbine High School shooting, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot and killed thirteen people and then killed themselves. At Virginia Tech, Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed thirty-three people, including himself, and injured twenty-three others (School 1). Violent video games played a major role in these school shootings because the games were tools used to practice there plan and give them the ideas for the weapons they would use and how they would use them. Harris and Klebold attended Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. When the two teens had planned the attack it was intended for propane tanks to detonate that they left in the cafeteria in duffle bags. “According to the report released by the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office, the tanks contained sufficient explosives power to ‘kill the majority of students’ who would be in the cafeteria for lunch” (Columbine 1). The tanks did not discharge as the boys anticipated.......
