Many people have believed these lies and have been terrified of the breed for years. One myth that many people believe is that The American Pitbull Terrier has locking jaws. This however is just something that the media put out to scare you. If A Pitbull actually had locking jaws, The animal would not be able to eat or drink and it would die. The media also twists their articles to make it sound like Pitbulls have always put people in the hospital. If a Pitbull has bitten someone however, the media often does not include the severity of the bite, unless it was fatal. The media also says that Pitbulls have the strongest bite. This is yet another myth. There was a study that was conducted by Dr. Brady Barr of National Geographic to find which dog had the strongest jaws. He used a Rottweiler, a German Shepherd, and an American Pit Bull Terrier. The results were, Rottweiler: 328 pounds of force German Shepherd: 238 pounds of force APBT: 235 pounds of force. The Pitbull came in last, showing that it does not have the strongest bite of all dogs. Lastly, when there is a Pitbull bite, another thing the media does is include the name of the breed. The headline might be “Pitbull attacks woman” However, when another type of dog attacks someone, the headline would be “Dog attacks Woman” They do not want people to be scared of other dogs such as labradors, who have attacked people as

... Pit bulls are usually aggressive, but are they all to blame for because of all of the dog attacks happening. No, because all dogs bite and others are vicious too, the reason is because pit bulls have a bad reputation so they are not liked very much. Many other dogs attack but have a good background, so they are not even reported or on the news. But when there are pit bulls involved on the other hand, they are all over the news, even for a little bite, but other dogs will not have this happen even for a big attack. In the Newspaper editorial, “The Media And The Pit Bull,” it states, “while keeping silent on attacks committed by dogs with better reputations, such as Labradors.” So it is not right for them to not have other animals in trouble for attacks they did that harmed people. Pit bulls are aggressive, but if we keep them caged in or in a fenced-in backyard, there will not be any problems. Or, if somebody knocks on the door you should have a dog fence or bar prohibiting them from getting out, biting, or scaring the person who is at the door. The News Article, “Miami-Dade County Votes to Keep Pit Bulls Out,” states,”A neighbor’s pit bull had escaped from the house, and was sitting in the Moreira’s driveway . . . The dog viciously attacked Melissa . . .” So it attacked her because the neighbor did not have any safety, so the dog easily got out and he did not notice. Another thing that shows pit bulls are not that bad, is that news reporters or their writers “over-report”...

Persuasive Essay On Pitbulls

...Imagine if your beloved pet was given such a bad rep, that your breed of your pet was banned in certain places in the world such as the UK, Germany, Ireland and almost thirty plus other countries. Your pet had always been the one of the sweetest pets that you’ve ever known, yet, a lot of people are against them being in their public area. Catherine Hedges, founder of the non-profit “Don’t Bully My Breed” organization, dedicated to rescuing pit bulls, says, “I’ve always wanted to help the "underdog" and they are a super personable, highly friendly, affectionate and misunderstood breed.” She says that her pit bulls are loving, loyal, and silly dogs. If that is the truth, then why have pit bulls been giving such a bad reputation? Before we get into the current news, the history of the pit bull should be covered first. For those of you that aren’t aware, pit bulls aren’t one specific breed, but more of a classification of several different breeds (i.e. Staffordshire Terries, American Pit Bull Terriers, American Bullies and more). The pit bull was originally bred from Old English Bulldogs which were popular in the 1800s for a British Isles blood sport called “bull baiting”. Bull baiting is when a bull is died to an iron stake, giving him about thirty feet to move, and setting dogs in front of it attempt to immobilize the bull for public entertainment. Dogs would go flying after the bull would yank them in the air with its horns, and many of them died because of this. Bloodsports were...

Persuasive Essay: Pitbulls Should Be Banned

...Should Pit-bulls be banned? Yes, or No? Those who thought yes, why? why should they be banned? Is it because they attack people, attack other dogs, is it because they just look scary or is it because of perspective?? Pit-bulls are no different to other dogs so saying pit-bulls should be banned is like saying all medium to large breeds of dog should be gone. Think about what it's like to have something so meaningful to you taken away for life. This is a feeling pit bull owners endure everyday as their dogs are banned and killed solely on the fact that they are pit bulls. Pit bull banning is extremely wrong because they are harshly punished for no particular reason. There are many pieces of misinformation about them, and this can all be changed if we could only make good alternative decisions. The banning of pit bulls has finally come around after the attempt to ban German Shepard's in the 70's and Doberman Pinschers in the 80's. After these two breeds won the battle against banning, the law looked at the next positioned 'most dangerous dog'. People assume pit-bulls are harmful by the fact of publicity. When other dog breeds attack, the most they get is one news report in the paper and a telling off. This was shown in incidents like when a Labrador mix attacked an elderly man sending him to hospital and a mixed breed dog fatally attacked a child. Both these stories only got 1-2 short news reports in local papers. When an incident occurred which involved a pit-bull sending a woman...

Persuasive Essay On American Pitbull Terrier

...As a reader of this essay, many people will read the title I have presented and come up with a general picture in their heads of what I will be talking about. Knowing the background of this essay, being an abstract concept to define, people may be confused as to what’s so abstract about a dog? Well here is why all of those thinkers are wrong. The word pit bull is thrown around so often, that it is not even questioned about what the word truly means. In fact, a pit bull is not a breed of dog, but it is a “...class of dogs that includes several breeds: American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier and any other purebred or mixed breed dog that is a combination of these dogs” (Pit Bull FAQ). There are many laws banning pit bulls; they are categorized by their physical traits and then based on that, get taken away from their families. Although there are many problems with this, one major problem is that non pitbulls get caught up by this checklist and get...
