“He played a kind of baseball that none of us had ever seen before… As if it were a form of punishment for everyone else on the field.” Roberto Clemente was an amazing baseball player and an amazing citizen. "Always, they said Babe Ruth was the best there was. They said you’d really have to be something to be like Babe Ruth. But Babe Ruth was an American player. What we have needed was a Puerto Rican player they could say that about, someone to look up to and try to equal." In addition, a local award is given annually to one player from every major league club. There has never been a tie for the award until this year. Two players won the award this year and both were from different leagues (National and American). Roberto Clemente has impacted society because now even the players that are now making around 20 million dollars a year strive for the Roberto Clemente award. This award is one of the highest awards you can get in sports. But, he also impacted communities and not even just in the U.S.A but, all around the world.
