The finality of misuse of a firearm sometimes ends up in catastrophic injury or death which pulls at the heart strings of almost all Americans. Many choose to use them for sport or recreation while others use them as a way of furthering their criminal actions. In turn there are many that feel it is their legally protected right to own firearms and enjoy their recreational uses. Due to the multiple conflicting arguments for and against the owning of guns many turn to powers above themselves such as the government to regulate gun use. When a cause that is so vast in the distance between its’ opposing sides we must ponder, does legislation for or against gun control really obtain its intended effect. In a literal sense, gun control and legislation does not have enough effect on overall crime rate to be the number one focus in the reduction of crime.
The debate on gun control is an ongoing battle which has continued to span many decades. Some feel they need more gun laws to protect us while others feel that they need more guns in our possession to protect us. There has been very limited data available to determine whether gun laws or guns themselves that positively impact crime statistics. There is a school of thought that states that have passed conceal to carry laws would lower crime rates. Over the last twenty years there have been 10 states to pass new CCW laws. Oddly enough the intended overall impact of CCW laws has had very little effect on gun ownership.
In a 2001 study by Mark Duggan takes an in-depth look at perceived fallacies regarding gun control and their effects. In regard to CCW laws and their effect Duggan states, “If the option to carry a firearm increased the perceived benefit associated with owning a gun, then one would expect to find an increase in the fraction of

...Persuasive Research Paper Dominique Harris ENG/215 September 30, 2013 Bill Morgan Persuasive Research Paper Restrictions on Guns for the Sake of Life Volsky (2012), "I support the Second Amendment” (para. 2) Governor Rick Scott (R) stated December 2012 when questioned by anchor Soledad O’Brien about which reforms, if any, he would support. Gun control is one of the leading controversial issues society faces in America to date. The government is faced with the issue of limiting assault rifles with a trite and establishing tougher gun laws vs. the second amendment. President Obama said it best “the country’s background check system for gun buyers is so weak it makes the United States vulnerable to mass shootings” (Rucker, 2013, para. 2). That statement alone should end any controversy on the issue of gun control. Regulating individual’s right to bear arms certainly would bring a since of safety to our society. In order for that to happen, government will have to do more than just prohibited sales of guns. In everyone’s community someone knows an individual who owns gun e.g., for protection or hunting. To regulate the rights to bear arms authorities would have to confiscate everyone’s guns to make America safer. I personally would like that to happen because guns kill, accidentally and on purpose. Take a look at the bigger picture “every day in the U.S., an average of 289 people are shot. Eight-six of them die: 30 are murdered, 53 kill themselves, two die accidentally...

...As Devito once said, If it doesn’t challenge you, It doesn’t change you” (www.activebeat.com ). Children now spend more than seven and a half hours a day in front of the screen” (Mediainthelivesof8to18). Just cannot resist stopping texting or posting a picture on Instagram. These days’ teens are being lazy and believe that physical activity doesn’t matter. Many believes that “28.0% of Americans, or 80.2 million people, aged six and older are physical inactive” (www.fitness.gov 2010 ). This is why teens should stay active it has health benefits, because it provides more time with others, and teens are off the streets. Now day’s teens are not keeping in mind about health benefits that will occur when they stay active. It has been demonstrated that, “exercise makes your body do work. It also gets your heart beating more quickly, which makes blood flow faster throughout the body. You also breathe faster and more deeply during exercise” (Soleway 2013). So this is why teens should stay active as it improves their overall health. In addition physical activity also improves sleep so that teens can work and learn properly. Only about 8 percent of high school students get enough sleep on an average school night, a large study finds. The others are living with board line –to-serious sleep deficits that could lead to day time drowsiness, depression , headaches and poor performance at school” (www.cfah.org 2010). This is why it is a concern as physical activity will...

...Some people are probably scared of the thought of being frozen in ice after they die, but it would seem breathtaking to be frozen. I obviously don’t want to die any time soon, but why not make myself useful after I do? However if being frozen and being revived could certainly happen, it would be insane to wake up years later knowing that I actually died and that I was preserved in ice and I am still alive. Even if I was frozen and it didn’t work that way, but I would still be ecstatic if they used my body for science because it could be helping someone else out who may certainly need it such as someone who needs a transplant. I comprehend that it’s insane that you actually have to pay money for this. Your loved one has just died and now...

...Divorce Josefina Ramirez COM/220 July 31, 2011 Cassandra Shellhorn In life we live happy and unforgettable moments. One of the best days of my life was when I got married. Not even in a million years I would have imagined that I will ever get divorced. The thought would off never cross my mind until. A divorce does not start from one day to the other. It is time consuming, agitating, and costly. The process of my divorce started on April 1st, 2010. My lawyers prepared and submitted the initial paper work to the Court of Jackson County, in the state of Missouri, case No. 1016-FC03062-01 Division 30. I was not a happy person since I had to appear in court more than once. Some of the mayor drives for divorce are lack of communication, financial disagreement, and adultery. Statistics indicate divorce rate has increase within the last decade in the USA; divorce causes emotional distress for couples, and effects the children as well. ...Bosen Bradford Brother D’Evegnee Foundation English 101 30 March 2010 Although video games seem innocent and that they cannot hurt anything, they in fact have many behavioral consequences. Many things that I have heard about video games have both scared me and helped me to control my video game use. A study that was done by Douglas Gentile of Iowa State University found that 8.5 percent of American youth ages eight to eighteen who play video games show multiple signs of behavioral addictions (Donna St George). These multiple signs that they used in the study ranged from irritability when play is scaled back to lying about the length of playing time. These young people are really affected by these video games and no one really does anything about them. These addictions aren’t only because of the people or their personality’s but can be linked to the way the video games are produced. I believe that the way that video games are produced have a huge effect on the people that play. The producers make the games in such a way that it entices the people to continue playing. They can get more points or receive more gratitude by the accomplishments that they have in the game. I have seen in my own gaming experiences that some games have the effect that you want to keep playing to gain more points or get farther or beat the game. The video game industry a long time ago didn’t have the same effect on people because the games weren’t as complex a long time ago. The games now a days...

...Argumentative Essay “Have we gone trophy-crazy as a society, bestowing trophies on children for almost anything, even just showing up? Are we afraid children will be hurt by losing, so we make everyone a winner? Or are awards an effective way to raise children’s self-esteem and keep them motivated to do better?”(Gonchar). Something that has always crossed my mind is how many participation trophy’s I got as a child, ribbons and prizes for sitting around and not doing much. Why do we give out so many trophies? Will our children end up spoiled and entitled? Unable to be independent and outgoing? I believe that we give out too many trophies to children that do nothing and it encourages them to be entitled, lazy, and unable to be independent. Foremost children that always get trophies for doing little to nothing start getting entitled. What I mean by this is they start expecting everything for doing nothing. They expect rewards for things that should just be done. We need to have boundaries for when we give children rewards and when we shouldn’t give them rewards. Teaching children through rewards like how to use the potty correctly or how to clean up properly is fine, but giving them rewards for coloring a picture outside the lines or just being polite to adults encourages a sense of entitlement. When children have a sense of entitlement they start to just take what they want, for example toys that are meant to be shared and some little kid is already occupying the toy this entitled...

...Competitions may sometimes be either helpful or stressful for students. Some students may be nervous in a competition while others may be completely confident. People are arguing whether to continue competitions or to discontinue them. According to experts competition can be a way of motivation if used properly, that is why it should be continued. The reasons why competition should be continued is because, first sports is a type of competition used in schools yet many people still participate in them and second, competition doesn't necessarily have to be in a form of sports it can also be made for learning purposes. Sports is a type of competition that many people enjoy, that is why people should associate sports with school. Sports also don't make people as stressful as regular competitions. Ordinary competitions make you stand in front of massive amounts of people, which can make you nervous especially if you make a mistake. Unlike regular competitons sports give you exercise, which is really important for a person. People need daily exercise everyday to stay healthy and in good shape, it also makes you live a longer life. According to a study in the Medicine & Science in Sports and Exercise in August, 2007 found that students who were active in sports like soccer, football and even skateboarding performed 10 percent better in core subjects like math, science, social studies and language arts. These reasons prove that sports should be incorporated with school and...

Medea Persuasive Research Paper

...Love causes people to do stupid and crazy things, such as stay out late past their curfew, change their entire style, and skip classes to be with their loved ones. However, in Euripedes’ play, Medea, the main character, Medea, was not only a crazy, homicidal lady, but she was also persuasive, as she had caused the deaths of many innocent lives. Medea has a past of convincing naive people to kill their loved ones. Because Jason was going to marry another woman, Medea was going to be exiled from Corinth, which she did not like. Betrayed and angered by Jason’s actions, Medea reacted horribly and cruelly to the people around her. Wanting to seek revenge, Medea plotted the deaths of the King Creon’s daughter, whom Jason was going to marry, the King, and her children, thus leaving Jason to mourn over the death of his new bride and children. Although Jason was leaving Medea for another person, Medea did not have a right to seek revenge against Jason. Upset by Jason’s betrayal, Medea maliciously plotted the death of King Creon’s daughter as her last act before her banishment. Knowing it will be suspicious if she were the...

..."Stand Your Ground Laws Cat in the Hat ENG/757 December 7, 1941 Dr. Seus "Stand Your Ground" A Citizen's Right to Self Defense. As of 2012, 24 of the United States have put in place some form of “castle doctrine” or “stand your ground” law. These laws are designed to enable citizens to legally defend themselves with deadly force and eliminate the requirement for them to attempt to flee when they feel that an attacker is threatening their life. In the wake of the case in Sanford Florida in which self-proclaimed community watchman George Zimmerman shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin during a confrontation, much attention and public scrutiny has been brought to bear on these controversial laws. A few “stand your ground” states have claimed that abuse of these laws has fostered what some say is a shoot first ask questions later mentality, and in some cases, instances of what could be considered legalized murder. However, instances of abuse are minimal, and in states that have instituted these laws, homicide rates are the lowest in the nation. “Stand your ground” laws are also said by some to promote vigilantism, but even if in some cases this were true, law abiding citizens must be afforded the right to self-defense by any means necessary, without fear of prosecution. “Stand Your Ground”, “Castle Doctrine” What Do They Mean? In the growing debate concerning abolishment of the “stand your ground” laws in place in nearly half of the United States, there are several...

Tattoo Persuasive Research Paper

...physical appearance. After Lauby asked if you would hire someone with a visual tattoo, someone companies give of the affect they still have tattoo-phobia while others said they wouldn't mind as long as it's not too big of offensive. {Graph Below} Truly I think those that said no, are narcissistic because they aren't putting the thought of others to mind. If I was giving the opportunity to answer this question, I think I would categorize myself with the individuals that feel like tattoos aren’t a harm, it’s just a way someone expresses themselves., It shouldn't matter if you have that's seen, what should matter is that they are getting the job done and making the companies more money so everyone can grow together. In conclusion to my research I've learned that an individual should not let someone withhold them from a dream or a passion based upon your physical appearance. We will never get away from society’s judging eye. What we must understand is that expressing ourselves, makes us unique. A tattoo has a significant meaning to a person, it make them who they are. Ink does not make a person, it helps gives them character. So back to my previous statement. .The body is a blank canvas and the ink of a tattoo is the paint; tattoos express the body; so the threat must be society’s opinions, so what we can grasp from this is no matter what they says or think your looks don’t always matter. ...

Abortion Persuasive Research Paper

... “I’m going to abort.” If a girl ever said this to me the big question for me would be What could I do to help her? My immediate response would be to ask her if there’s anything I could do then I would try to persuade her not to abort. To do this I’d tell her that abortion is a way of killing a living person who hasn’t been born yet and that there are other options such as adoption. One of the first things that I would ask her would be if there’s anything that I could do. Around this time she might think that abortion is the best way to end “her problem” so I would be willing to listen to her point of view. Even though this may seem as the simplest thing, that might be what she needs, to think out loud and process what she is thinking. Another way that I could be helpful would be by informing her about the health centers that would teach her about the health problems she could have later on due to abortion and help her realize that abortion isn’t the best option. Something else I would say would be, abortion is killing a person who hasn’t been born yet but they are still a human being. Like Pope Francis said, “ The right to life is first among human rights, to abort a child is to kill someone who can not defend himself.” Abortion is basically killing someone who can’t run away, speak up or protect themselves so in a way it is worse to abort than it is to murder the person you hate the most or someone who can do the other things. (But both are naughty actions). To convince her...
