Persuasive Speech About Journaling

Today is the first day of the year. I promised to change one thing in the new year. Apparently journaling is fun according to Anna and James, so now I am doing it too. I get it that they think it’s fun, but I just don’t know what the point is. It’s not like anybody is going to read this anyway. I don’t know, maybe they will, but that would not be very fun for them. It’s just a book of my thoughts. Anyway, I don’t think I’m too good at this whole writing thing. You’d think I’d know how to write well by age 30, but that is clearly not the case. This is a good day to be writing because it is cold outside and we are all cramped up in this little cabin. I still can’t believe that we have 6 people living here. I’m scared for everyone here. This is no way to live. There is little to no food, …show more content…
That is very different from what I would have said a week ago. I guess the whole nose thing was nothing. I wonder if that ever happens to other people. I know it has never happened to me before then.
Anyway, there has been a lot that I haven’t written about. Little Jimmy is starting to get teeth, and Charles learned the right way to hold a gun We are not going to let him shoot any time soon, but he is at least getting the hang of it early.
It has been so warm outside! Well, warm for where we are. I was able to go outside without a coat for like 10 minutes. It wasn’t until then that I realized how much I missed the sun. Anna and I have to go pick berries pretty soon, but I’m not sure how many more berries there are. We have picked them off the bushes to the point where there are not many left. Anything that we haven’t picked yet is sure to be blown off the branches by the huge gusts of wind.
I couldn’t bring myself to write again until now. It is dark, and my face is covered with my dry tears, and a frown is plastered across my face. My hair is frazzled and stuck to my cheeks. I can’t smile or laugh right now. I can’t believe I am even writing this

World Religions: the Pentecostal Faith

...World Religions Report: The Pentecostal Faith Kellye Berry HUM/130 Friday, October 18, 2013 Isabel Morales World Religions Report: The Pentecostal Faith (ROUGH DRAFT) The purpose of this paper is to give a summary of the Pentecostal Faith in the words of a woman who is both relatively newly sober and newly spiritual. Angela Harper is a fellow Alcoholics Anonymous member that I have known for almost three years now. I chose this denomination because I have never known very much about the Pentecostal faith, aside from the more obvious characteristics, as manifested by the women of that faith in their dress and decorum. I was very pleased to have taken part in a magical conversation about the power of God’s Grace and the way it can transform the life of anyone, no matter how far down the scale they may have gone. Angela Harper and I finally were able to get together and have our conversation today, Thursday, October 17, 2013. I will give a little background on Angela as a person before I proceed, with her permission, of course. Angela, like me, is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. Another thing that we both have in common is that neither one of us was raised in the church. It wasn’t until Angela began her recovery journey that she had any reason to deliberately seek a relationship with God. What has happened as a result of that seeking is truly inspiring. Angela wanted me to preface my report on the Pentecostal faith by saying that she is not only new to...

...[pic] Dear Educator, Thank you for your interest in the change, growth and empowerment of Native Youth Education. This curriculum was developed specifically for educators in the state of Maine’s public high schools who wish to use this guide as a tool to improve Native Youth Education. NEG (Native Education Guide) provides lesson ideas and examples that support current lesson structures as well as implementing a culturally appropriate material for the Native Student. While many Native Education curriculums exist, NEG is designed to adapt to the block scheduling of the Public High School in Maine. This curriculum recognizes the appropriate education material needed for its intended audience, which focuses on the tribes of Maine whose youth attend Public High School. NEG aims to provide its learners with a set of educational experiences that encourages empowerment and positive Native identity through community education. Native Education is the study of the human, tribal, environmental, historical and social experience of the Natives of Maine. Native Education is very complex with a lot of variables such as time, space, place and the students; NEG therefore focuses on a number of messages: - Community Building - Seventh Generation Sustainability, Economics and Ecology - School Education Policies and Institutions (Boarding Schools to Current Education Models) - Colonization and the “White Expansion” - Cultural Appropriation - Native Ritual, Ceremonies...

Who Am I

...Style and Substance/Joseph Couch 1 Introduction Academic Writing with Style and Substance Offering Opinions and Exchanging Ideas Understanding the Difference Much writing on the Internet, for high school, and for general purposes contains the personal opinions of writers. As a result, some of the phrases below are very common in these writing situations: “To me,” “I think” “Personally,” “For me,” “It is this writer’s opinion” Style and Substance/Joseph Couch 2 While everyone has a right to a personal opinion, relying on opinion in college writing usually means hiding behind that right rather than facing the fact that others can question a writer’s ideas. As a result, the common defense of “that’s my opinion” does not matter much as a reason to support an essay’s ideas. What does matter for a class that requires a textbook such as this one is writing that shows critical thought and (often) outside research. The first step towards writing with these qualities is an understanding that it does not stand alone as an opinion. In fact, college-level writing acknowledges and engages with the ideas of others who have also often done some critical thinking and outside research on the topic. Essentially, college professors want essays that exchange ideas with other readers and writers rather than present ideas on the level of opinions. This is not to say that a student’s ideas do not count in college writing. The process to a completed paper does often begin with one’s own...

Moral Paper

...Leadership Ethics Course Manual ~ © 2005 Lindsay J Thompson ~ All rights reserved 3 Leadership Ethics Course Manual ~ © 2005 Lindsay J Thompson ~ All rights reserved 4 introduction Moral Leadership for a Free World If you read a newspaper this morning, you almost surely read something related to morality, leadership, and freedom. From international relations to neighborhood and family life, concerns about leadership ethics and human welfare are the focus of news, political movements, and civic initiatives. Emotionally engaging terms like “moral leadership,” “the free world” and “human freedom” are often used in the media without much explanation or clarification. Momentous decisions are made and life choices established in the name of values attached to these and similar terms. What do we really mean by “moral leadership,” or “freedom?” If two people use these terms in a conversation, do they explicitly share a common understanding of them or just assume common ground? For instance, you might want to start such a conversation by thinking and talking about the difference between “the free world” and “a world of free individuals.” What would be the implications of the difference between those two phrases? What would be the moral implications for leaders striving to achieve both visions of freedom? Americans generally agree that freedom is a basic value protected in...

Quiet: Power of Introverts

...and extroverts alike.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “Gentle is powerful … Solitude is socially productive … These important counterintuitive ideas are among the many reasons to take Quiet to a quiet corner and absorb its brilliant, thought-provoking message.” —ROSABETH MOSS KANTER, professor at Harvard Business School, author of Confidence and SuperCorp “An informative, well-researched book on the power of quietness and the 3/929 virtues of having a rich inner life. It dispels the myth that you have to be extroverted to be happy and successful.” —JUDITH ORLOFF, M.D., author of Emotional Freedom “In this engaging and beautifully written book, Susan Cain makes a powerful case for the wisdom of introspection. She also warns us ably about the downside to our culture’s noisiness, including all that it risks drowning out. Above the din, Susan’s own voice remains a compelling presence—thoughtful, generous, calm, and eloquent. Quiet deserves a very large readership.” —CHRISTOPHER LANE, author of Shyness: How Normal Behavior Became a Sickness 4/929 “Susan Cain’s quest to understand introversion, a beautifully wrought journey from the lab bench to the motivational speaker’s hall, offers convincing evidence for valuing substance over style, steak over sizzle, and qualities that are, in America, often derided. This book is brilliant, profound, full of feeling and brimming with insights.” —SHERI FINK, M.D., author of War Hospital “Brilliant, illuminating, empowering! Quiet gives...

Your Resume Is Useless Unless It Answers This 1 Question If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know how keenly we believe there’s no such thing as a generic or one-size-fits-all resume If your resume is to be powerfully persuasive, it must speak directly to its intended reader. Its effectiveness hinges on how well it answers the following critical concern: What are the positive results of your work performance?
