During my rotation at Sartin’s discount drug store I had a somewhat different patient experience. Many of the patients that I have met on my other rotations were pleasant and easy to work with, but this summer rotation was the exception. A patient came to the pharmacy wanting to fill his pain medication early on the first of June. He wanted to wait in the store for the prescription so the staff started filling his script quickly. It came to the staff attention that they did not have the full amount in stock and they would have to order it. The patient did not like this and requested that the script be returned, which the pharmacist then did for him. The patient left the pharmacy only to return 2 hours later with the same script. He decided that he would get what he could at the time and return for the rest when the C2 order came in the following day. Needless to say, this was slightly time consuming and aggravating for the pharmacy staff, but they filled it again for him while he waited in the patient lobby. …show more content…
He argued with the pharmacy cashier for several minutes before demanding to speak to a pharmacist. He pointed at me and asked to speak to me as the rest of the staff informed him that I was just a student. I went down to try and help dissolve the situation, but he did not believe me when I explained that we were giving the correct amount of medication to complete his original prescription. He continued to get agitated and raise his voice until Mr. Sartin came to talk to the man. He pulled the disgruntled man to the side of the store away from the counter to understand what was going on.
