PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION

Philosophy of religion is the examination of the core concepts and themes involved in religious practices. Searching for a rational and logical explanation for every aspect of religion it also investigates the significance religion and spirituality plays on society. (Taliaferro, 2007) The examination of forms of religion and spirituality including geosophical and theosophical, analysing an argument that support these core values includes the cosmological argument where interconnected yet divergent notions are established.

Geosophical religion and spirituality is profoundly linked to the land. Through a mental, physical and spiritual connection by which the land and people are interconnected, all objects are alive and share the same spirit. (Grieves, 2015) This argument is demonstrated through Australian aboriginal spirituality in which their behaviours in everyday life are a clear reflection of their beliefs. …show more content…
The land is my mother, my mother is the land. Land is the starting point to where it all began. It's like picking up a piece of dirt and saying this is where I started and this is where I'll go. The land is our food, our culture, our spirit and identity." (Knight, 1996) These relations of connection are to ensure a healthy interdependence between each element, this is expressed through creation or dreamtime stories. They describe the shaping and developing of the world in which order was formed from chaos by the ancestral spirits. And so, ways in which all things should live in interconnectedness to maintain order and sustainability was established. These beliefs were further extended through the law, which made every person to know their relationships, duties and responsibilities for each other, the land and with the ancestor spirits themselves. ...Research Paper: Information Preparation After choosing the research topic, you will gather information. This is not simply listing the sources you intend to use in your paper. Rather, this is a presentation of the material you have gathered from the approved sources to use in your paper. This material consists of the direct quotes, indirect quotes, and other information from each source which you plan to incorporate into your paper. You are still in the research phase as you do this. You are going through scholarly sources to find material that you can incorporate into your paper. The Information Preparation assignment should contain a large amount of material—probably more than you will ultimately use in your paper. There are 2 ways to organize the material for the Information Preparation. They are as follows: 1. Following a properly-formatted bibliographic entry for each resource you intend to use, include quotes, paraphrased material, or bits of information from that resource that you believe you will use in your paper. Preface each item with the topic that it can be used to support in your paper. 2. A second way to organize your document for this assignment is by topics you will cover in the paper. Use the points and sub-points which you intend to cover in your paper as headings for this organizational method. For example, if your paper were on Paul's calling, you might be touching on how his background as a Pharisee prepared him to fulfill his new role...

Hum 130 Final Paper Buddhism vs Christian Faith

...Buddhism and Christian Faith HUM/130 Week 9: Final Assignment January 22, 2012 Introduction This paper presents research of the beliefs and practices of Buddhism; describes the worship space of the temple; summarizes an interview this writer had recently with a believer; and finally, compares Buddhism to Christianity. Religion has been around since the beginning of time, and religion has so many different meanings and different interpretations that people take in. Who created it all? Sometimes we tend to lose track of what is really there. There are so many different types religions and beliefs that each one has its own tale on how this world evolved and what took place that when it comes to beliefs and we should all respect each other’s faith because when it comes down to it we are all seeking the same desires when we all die, or some would say the day we are to be judged by God himself on Judgment day. In this paper I will thoroughly explain the differences and if they share any common beliefs. Buddhism In my research and experience with this practice, I have come to learn a whole other philosophy on what others come to believe besides the traditional religions and practices. Buddhism originated from a man name Gautama Siddhartha who later became what we know of him the Buddha Shakyamuni also known as “the enlightened one” he was born into the life of luxury but soon to escape his former life in search for the answers of the world’s suffering and understanding...

...Dr. Chan Thrs 231 Jannie Or Paper1 I disagree that the best way to study religion is learning from a page from the World Almanac. The information is not accurate and not adequate when comparing the world non-Christian on a few paragraph. First, Among all those ambiguous religion questions, one of them is very difficult to answer- who is the founder of the religion? According to the informative paper: "Founder of Hinduism--The Aryan invaders" which actually in the modern history people consider that there is no single founder. However, the religion is originally established by God Himself (dharman tu sakshad bhagavat pranitam) which claimed by the ancient scriptures of India; as well, "Islam's founder is Muhammad" who is known as rasul Allah, or God's Messenger to the Arabs, and to all of humanity. In my opinion, it is very difficult to specified the founder of religion into a particular person. The sacred text is difficult to conclude in some religion. For example, Buddhism's "sacred text is the Tripitaka" however, Buddhism's sacred text might include not only The Tripitaka, the Mahayana Sutras, and the Tibetan Book of the Dead. I need to think the reason why only list The Tripitaka as Buddhism's sacred text might be it is because The Tripitaka is the most important one. Another problem is how to classified the most influential sacred text, the information is not very precisely stated. For example, the sacred text of Hinduism can...

Buddhism Research Paper

...Research Paper Topic: Buddhism Michael Kolbe July 21, 2010 Research Paper Religions of the World MW 6:00-9:15 Abstract/Thesis: The Religion Buddhism comes from the story of Gautama Siddhartha. Siddhartha was prophesized to be a world ruler or a spiritual leader, and despite his parents attempts to facilitate the former he chose the latter. It was originally founded in India, but spread to other parts of Asia, Including China and Japan. In China and Japan the differences in culture force Buddhism to be changed slightly in some cases and a little more in others. Bothe China and Japan have started schools/sects that differ from the original Buddhism. In this paper I will explain the teachings and Origin of Buddhism and briefly describe some of the schools/sects that have sprouted up in China and Japan. After describing these schools/sects I will compare them and their principals to those of the original Buddhist teachings from India. This paper will describe how Buddhism spread across Asia and became known as a religion rather than just teachings. Buddhism is a Religion, founded in India, which came from the teachings of Gautama Siddhartha or “the Buddha”. Although no missionary movements were developed, Buddhism was still spread around Asia. The spread occurred because of Shakyamuni Buddha, who was a teacher. He traveled around to different kingdoms sharing his teachings to those that would listen. Philosophy of Life

...My Personal Philosophy Essay People develop and shape their personal philosophy during the whole life. Some circumstances may radically change our views, depending on our age, social status and personal qualities. As for me, at this stage of my life I can’t say it for sure that my personal philosophy is complete and well-shaped. In my research paper I want to express my views on several sides of human life. I’d like to attract attention to such concepts as sense of life and happiness, good and evil, morality and faith in God, love and death, eternal life values, karma and religion. I’ll answer the questions what love and happiness mean for me personally. I understand that the concept of life philosophy is really versatile and it’s hard to express personal views on so many aspects. That’s why my research deals with only those things which are important for me at this stage of my life. If you look at life from different sides for some period of time, and then gather all your thoughts into one picture – that would be your life philosophy. Humans strive to find out and clearly define the sense of their living, and feel unhappy and desperate without it. Each person has his own sense of life and discovers it for himself only. There are people who live their lives without asking what they are living for. Personally I have always been concerned with this question and I think it is important to have at least some slightest peace of sense in life. Sometimes I feel myself broken and empty...

The Quest for the Historical Jesus

...Rosemarie Stanislaus Term Paper August 1, 2014 The Quest for the Historical Jesus INTRODUCTION Over the centuries scholars from around the world have written a lot about religion, its meaning, relevance and contribution to humanity. There have been many speculations upon the nature and historical background of Jesus Christ. Many scholars have tried to dig into the few clues as to His identity and come up with a human side to which we can all relate. The study of Christianity and how it relates to Jesus Christ is very important to the whole world. Concerning the issue of Christianity, for example, the majority of people are taught in most schools and churches that Jesus Christ was an actual historical figure and that the only controversy regarding him is that some people accept him as the Son of God and the Messiah, while others do not. While the historicity of Jesus is the most debated subject in the field of religion today, the most enduring and profound controversy in this subject is whether or not Jesus Christ really existed. This paper will discuss who Jesus is, the controversy and biblical sources based on the views of scholars surrounding the historicity of Jesus. Finally, this paper will give Biblical evidence that Jesus existed. WHO IS JESUS? It is generally accepted that Jesus was truly a man who walked the earth 2000 years ago. Almost every religion teaches that Jesus was a prophet, excellent teacher or a Godly man. The...

...workings of Classical Greece’s political economy. It is important for me to understand this because I am minoring in Philosophy. Greece is important to Philosophy because many great thinkers such as Pythagoras and Socrates were “Greek” thinkers. So more or less, I chose Greece for a personal educational gain rather than just some random society to write a research paper on. World historians and readers alike should be interested in this research because from Greece came the father of Western Philosophy, which is the backbone of what is taught in Western academia and really had a huge impact to the world, as we know it. With Philosophy comes questions, with questions come many great answers that impact societies and even the earth. I want to study how Greece’s political economy impacted philosophic thinkers and people alike. In order to help readers understand whether or not outside forces like society’s political economy impacts deeper thinking like philosophy I will dive deep into Athenian Democracy, documents certain philosophers wrote in the day and time in which they lived, and even look into some other people of the time who had strong opinions on what exactly was going on them. Philosophy impacted more than most people think and I am sure in my research I will be able to back that up with primary sources to prove my argument. In writing this research paper I will be exploring the political economy of Classical Greece between 510 – 323 BCE. In addition, the geographic region...

...Cultural Background Paper SOC/100: INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY Cultural Background Paper January 12, 2011 Margaret Wander CULTURAL BACKGROUND The term sociology first derived from the Greek word for the study of knowledge. Sociology is a social science view of society. Sociology emerged from enlightenment thought, shortly after the French Revolution, as a positivist science of society. Its origin owed to various key movements in the philosophy of science and the philosophy of knowledge. Sociology was first coined from the French in the eighteenth century by an essayist in an unpublished manuscript. Sociology then went on to be defined with the term social physics, but that had subsequently been appropriated by others. Social research sprang from sociology, but has since gained a degree of autonomy as practitioners from other disciplines share its purpose. Similarly, social science has come to be appropriated as an umbrella term to refer to various disciplines which study society or human culture. Sociology is the study of human beings and their behavior in a social atmosphere. The term culture is defined as a way of learning through customs and traditions. African-American culture is rooted from Africa; this paper will include a synopsis of similarities and differences between the norms of my cultural background and those of the dominant American culture. As an African-American Female, born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I am the fifth of eight...
