...Introduction to Sociology – HW 4 Directions: All homework (HW) assignments must be typed and numbered in the text box provided. Answers to all questions should be well-written (i.e. clear, complete sentences) and well thought out. 1. Do you believe that the traditional family should be saved? Why or why not? This response should be a minimum of 1 solid paragraph. A traditional family usually is a family that keeps together and has some kind of a dictatorship usually the father figure. They believe in certain type of religion and where the mother has to stay at home and take care of the children while the husband goes to work and provides for the family. I personally believe that maybe having that type of family is not bad if it keeps them happy, but it is not necessary to keep around. There is nothing bad with different types of families. The type of family does not matter it does not have to be the picture-perfect family that the media projects; A family by definition is a social institution found in all societies that unites people in cooperative groups to care for one another, including any children. Weather the family should be saved or not depends weather the people want it or not if that is what the members of the family want. Maybe having a few around is not a bad to probably look back and refer to the start of a family. 2. How serious a problem is single-parent childrearing? How ought our society respond to this concern? This response should be a minimum of 1 solid...

Why Is Geographhy Important

...Why is geography important When talking about the importance of geography, it is good to start off with answering the main question, what is geography? Well geography can be explained in many different ways, but my understanding is that, it is the study of the world, the changes that happen and can be changed, due to things which are discussed in the subject. There are also different types of geography’s, such as physical and human geography. Also it is used in metrology, which is the study of the weather and climate. Tourism can also come under different types, different places to go and different experiences can come under this subject. Another type would be the cross between other subjects, such as science and business studies. Geography studies the economic and political status of different place, which combines the 2 subjects. In science, things such as tectonic plates and how much acidic is a river, all the examples give the links. The main place where geography is used, is in different types of jobs, many of the jobs these days, you need some sort of geographical knowledge. The main job for which you need geography is problem a meteorologist, they need to be able to know what is happening with the weather to now in advance if anything major is going to occur. Other jobs such as working in business or politics, you need to know the best place to work in to get the best profit and trade, this would include MEDC and LEDC countries. We know some examples of where geography...

Social Media

...Cameron Ray Professor Barnett SOC M/W 3 P.M. 24 November 2014 Putting On My Social Make-Up Since the day I was born, I was ascribed to take on the gender role of a male. The Norms that males are expected to follow are to be strong, take action, be competitive, have honor, to be a protector/provider, and to be hypermasculant. Males must also restrict their emotions, be self-reliant, be homophobic, and boast about sex. I undoubtedly followed the social structure and norms while growing up which ultimately shaped me to be the person I am today. School is another huge factor in shaping the roles of males, especially in middle school when children are beginning puberty and starting to notice girls. When I was in middle school I was expected to act tough, look/be cool, and to be interested in girls. Since boys are just starting to notice girls, we don’t know what we want so we date girls anywhere from 4 hours all the way to a whole two weeks. I guess I was “the cool kid” because I had a lot of friends, I was good looking, acted tough, and dated girls. As males are just getting becoming comfortable in middle school, they graduate and get sent to high school, which is a total game changer. High school is nothing like middle school. High school expects you to grow out of your immature puberty stage, and grow up and become mature. Males in high school are split up into different social groups such as athletes, who paly sports, the EMO kids who hates life and contemplates death...

Empowerment of Futuren Women

...The Empowerment of the Future of Women “Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily, this is not difficult”, Charlotte Whitton (The Soul Sisters). Hilary Clinton, Sarah Palin, and Oprah Winfrey are just a few names who have taken women leadership to the next level. But why does progress still seem to be a struggle for other women? Men seem to be dominating the political world in the U.S., and females seem to be striving to be the next powerhouses, but their professional image seems to be standing in the way of their future. Although women have made significant progress in obtaining low level leadership positions, their professional image continues to prevent them from receiving these same positions in higher forms. Political standards for future female candidates have become increasingly difficult to fulfill. The claim made for women not obtaining these higher level positions is simply because women are “less hierarchical, more cooperative and collaborative, and more oriented increasing other’s self-worth” (Eagly, pg. 2). Candidates for the job must be “likeable and tough” (Braude), which is seemingly become more and more difficult for female leaders these days when men are strong participants with these characteristics. When one wants to put a female and a male in a rink together, who would come out on top? The obvious choice would be the male, but it is not time to give a female the chance? The opportunity for women leaders...

Theory Critique Crabb and Hawkins

...needs to be addressed. There are many differences in how individuals develop which begs the questions; does personality change.-if so how and why? This leads into examination of health and illness. What is a healthy individual, what do they look like, act like, speak like, how do they feel inside? Conversely, what constitutes illness and how can it be cured? And what good is a comprehensive counseling theory if it is cannot demonstrate its effectiveness and stand up to scrutiny? Is there research to back it up? Or, is the entire concept based on antidotal evidence, conjecture and innuendo. Phycology and secular science can claim as such and perhaps it is true. But when the theory is derived and practiced from a Christian worldview, the TRUTH is unquestioned. This is where Dr. Hawkins emphasizes the ability to multi task. This includes the integration of theology, spirituality and phycology addressing: body, cognition, feelings, and volition, Spirit/image of God, Sin/flesh, temporal systems and supernatural systems. Putting his precepts into action, Dr. Hawkins references a “Spirit Filled Life”,...

We are the United States, we have a solution to pretty much every problem out there, I strongly believe that something can and must be done to stop all of this unnecessary gun violence in our country. 2. Preliminary Claim: The United States needs to enact stricter Gun Control Laws in our country in order to protect our citizens and they can do this by limiting the buying and selling of guns, limiting ammunition magazine sizes, understanding the phycology of the killer and reinstating the Crime and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. 3. Persuasion & Conformity Scenario

...Persuasion & Conformity Scenario J March 18, 2012 Persuasion & Conformity Scenario The paper I was to write on believed Donnie would give into peer pressure because all musicians used drugs and made beautiful music. They believed John would get a scholarship, and be constantly checked for drugs and this would prevent his drug use. The newspaper articles are just as bad for athletics as they are for musicians. I saw nothing to show me that John was a level-headed person who had any self-esteem or self-identity in himself. I saw no future goals listed. John did not impress me. Donnie impressed me as a young man who is self-confident in his future and he knows his self-identity and his self-worth. He has mapped out his future. I have taken the key items, and placed them together to show why I feel the way I do. My opinion has not changed. I understand the reasoning the other person listed but I don’t see them that way. Busnisess Ethics

...Business Research Ethics University of Phoenix Business Research RES/351 Business Research Ethics There have been many cases of unethical research that have contributed to how we perceive the way that research is done in today’s business world. One such case is that of a Harvard Researcher who may have skewed information and findings to further the efforts in primate research funding. Some may even say that this is a consequence of finding research money for projects. In the case of the Harvard researcher, a phycology professor was conducting a study on primates and their ability to recognized different sound patterns, which some may say is the basic skill of language development.("Harvard Research Convicted on Fraudulent NIH Primate Research – Immoral Mind," 2010, para. 7) Although the testing and studies were conducted under controlled situations the data the was gathered was either mishandled, documented under potential bias or just left out altogether. By the lead researcher making the decisions to handle the gathered information on the primates leads to the fact of unethical research practices by this study. Sense the funding for these research projects came from private and government monies this is still under an investigation as of the date of the article. With the head of the research study admitting to making misstates in how he handled and presented the information gathered from the studies, there have been several other research papers and documents that...
