1. Explain the philosophical and social/cultural significance of various mythological/religious narratives of the origin of love and sexual desire

2. Human desire is born of a wound/cut/separation in human nature. Discuss this statement with reference to Erich Fromm, Genesis and Aristophanes’ speech on love.

3. Discuss various religious, cultural, or philosophical arguments for or against homosexuality.

4. Discuss the views on Love by Erich Fromm (erotic love) and Harry Frankfurt. What do they have in common? How does each argue that true Love is different from lust/infatuation/falling in love AND motherly/charitable love?

5. Discuss the idea that universal love (Agape) is or is not (e.g Freud) the basis of civilization.

6. In Leonore Tiefer’s and Michael Ruse’s articles we have a couple of critiques based on pointing out that established ideas (i.e. that sex is a natural act & the Human sexual response cycle) have little or no merit because they are scientifically flawed. Identify the ideas being debunked, explain how they are flawed, and discuss the consequences of debunking these ideas.

7. Examine the relationship between sex and morality, and critically evaluate arguments denying any relationship (see Thomas Nagel & Michael Ruse).

Leadership Phylosophy

...Personal Philosophy of Leadership Personal Philosophy of Leadership My philosophy of leadership is one where a leader has some variance of interpersonal influence of inspiring as well as setting direction for others to achieve that goal. “Leadership can be defined as a process where one possesses the ability to influence and motivate a group of people towards the achievement of a common goal”.  I believe that no one has to be born a leader, everyone has the ability to be a leader if they want it as well as it they put practice and training into use. When I look at leadership I see it as a process to help achieve a particular goal because leadership requires an individual to be committed, trustworthy, knowledgeable, value, behavior, skills and ability to communicate. A leader should be able to build teams, visions, as well as it is important that they have the ability to take risk and show value to their employees. Your leadership is as effective as you are and it is important for leaders to be effective in their day to day performance and role as leader, they also need to be great listeners as well as communicators because the two go hand in hand. I look at leaders as individuals who are very much in touch with their and involved with the team. Leadership is having knowledge to enable their employees and act by providing emotional support as well as technical support. “Leadership can be defined as a process where one possesses the ability to influence and motivate...

Today’s world offers an even greater success in the educative process and this won’t be possible without the existence of a teacher. They say, “Good teachers are not born but made and trained.” A teacher who knows what the interest are and needs of each student, who is flexible and considerable. Likewise, there are no learners that are born genius or smart, they are also trained by their teacher and this depends on how he/she teaches. A teacher who doesn’t just leave something for the learners to do with but a teacher who helps his/her learners to cope up with the latest educative trends. An effective teacher who is doing the right thing and an efficient teacher who is doing things right. A teacher who facilitates the whole class and guide each student on their own right track. ...Personal Philosophy Paper Sara Hammel University of Georgia Counseling Theory Theorist who have Influenced Personal Theoretical Orientation As a therapist’s experience base grows, I believe a person’s theoretical orientation will narrow, but will also continue to evolve. The core belief system that a therapist begins with is still there, but the platform that a therapist connects most with eventually becomes a therapist’s model. I am aware that my current orientation is rather eclectic in nature. I find a basic connection with Freud and agree that we do have instincts that are innate to every human (Corey, 2013), in essence we are all animals (Freud, 1961) of sorts. Adler was correct when he expounded on Freud’s work and introduced the idea that we are not solely shaped by our childhood experiences. Frankl, May, and Yalom have led me to the idea that there is no step by step instructional book on how to counsel clients. My experience in the military working with a multitude of different people of various religions, ethnicities, and languages has led to my acknowledgement that we are all different and are motivated and driven by many different things. Each person is different; this is what makes us special. No single solution is perfect for any two people, and there are always different variables involved with each person. Also incorporated into my view of human nature is Perls’s concept that places emphasis on what is being experienced in the here and now as being...

As a profession, nursing is committed to assisting individuals in the performance of activities that contribute to their health. As a discipline, nursing supports the belief that there is a dynamic interrelationship between the individual and the environment (Meleis, et al. 2000). Nursing should be practiced recognizing the physiological, psychological, sociocultural, development and spiritual variables of the patient (Baranowski, Perry , & Parcel, 1997) . This nursing philosophy is based on Neuman System Model, Science of Unitary Beings and Social Cognitive Theory. Nursing is one of the external resources available to the person (Baranowski, Perry, & Parcel, 1997). Nurses use knowledge and skill in working with people to promote, maintain, and restore the balance between the person and the environment, and when necessary, to support a dignified...

...The success of science: Accurate predictions of well-established bodies of scientific theories about observable phenomena in a wide variety of particular instances. Example: Newtonian mechanics. • It is one task of philosophers of science to explain why it is that tour accepted scientific theories enjoy such success. • Why are scientific theories instrumentally successful? o Acceptance of a scientific theory is its instrumental success—if a candidate for a new theory gives obviously incorrect predictions about what we observe, then it will soon cease to be a viable candidate. o What is it about our accepted theories that make them predictively reliable? 1.2 Realism and Anti-Realism • One point of difference between realism and anti-realism concerns the interpretations of theoretical terms in claims of science. • Interpretation of theoretical: the way in which claims about unobservable entities (such as magnetics fields or electrons) are to be understood. • If a successful scientific theory utilizes the theoretical term neutrino then the realist infers that such objects exist, as described by the theory, in the world. • Anti-realists, typically deny that theoretical terms can be understood as actually referring to real objects in the world, though many insist that scientific theories must be understood as purporting to describe real objects in the world. • Another point of contention btw realist and ant-realists concerns the confirmation of scientific theories...

A leader should be just, respectful, and responsible while handling problems in a democratic way. Doing so will show confidence and earn the respect of employees. Consider the Extent to Which Knowledge Issues in Ethics Are Similar to Those in at Least One Other Area of Knowledge

...Knowledge is of great importance for humans to survive, since it provides us with some rules of how to deal with the world. Rules and norms, in turn, are the main subject matter of ethics. This is why all areas of knowledge can be connected with ethics. History, Mathematics, Human sciences and others support kind of ethics, but to what extent do all of these help people to understand morality and make the right decisions? Knowing sometimes can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the circumstances. In the case of ethics it could help or hinder people knowing what to do. On the other hand, we all search for the real life reasons which will lead us the right way. Knowledge issues are sometimes controversial in Ethics, because quite often there is a conflict between two or more branches of, for example between social morality and the religious morality. Each person accepts and follows different kind of moral rules, under different cirsumstances. The controversies in the society what is right and what is wrong are huge. We either support some rules or do not. People often argue about their beliefs, no matter if they are religious or not. Such example could be given in history. To clarify, history is the study of the human past. It is a field of research which uses a narrative to examine and analyse the sequence of historical events, and it sometimes attempts to investigate objectively the patterns of cause and effect that determine past events. On the other hand, ethics...

Eudaimonia is something that is proper to the person and that cannot be taken away. It does not depend on pleasures of life or honor bestowed on one by people which are temporary. It is a life rational living throughout ones life. Eudaimoina is the good that we all seek or should seek because it is full development and exercise of our human capacities in accordance with excellence or virtue throughout our entire life. For one to be happy, all his choices should be done in a good and excellent way – a life of reason which cannot be taken away. According to Aristotle, the defining function of a human being is “activity of soul in accordance with reason. ”He asserts that guiding our emotions with reason or being rational in an excellent way, according to virtue could lead to happiness. Virtue (Arête) is a life of excellence. It is a disposition to choose in a certain way, which is appropriate to that virtue. It encompasses all things, it is not partial. It should be learned from childhood so that one does not need to struggle within himself to do good but is emotionally attached to doing good. Intellectual virtue is the innate understanding of the character virtue as being good and their contraries...

...Logical Thinking Worksheet * Use the following questions to guide you through your exploration of logical thinking and arguments. Answer the questions as completely as possible, and provide examples where needed. 1. What is a logical argument? * To understand the meaning of the logical argument, we need to know first what an argument is. According to (WordIQ.com, 2010), an argument is an attempt to demonstrate the truth of a conclusion based on premises or statements, relating this definition of argument with logic, we can deduce that these statements or premises have to follow the principles of reasoning in a clear and consistent manner. * As an example, the argument “I need to study to fail that math test”, does not make sense and does not follow the principles of the logical argument, the logical argument should be “I need to study to approve that math test“. 2. When and how do we use them? Do we use logical arguments in our daily life in their basic forms of inductive and deductive thinking, in inductive because we always tend to use observations and evidence to get a conclusion and deductive because we usually based our decisions in fact or truth premises. 3. What parts do they contain? According to (Virtual School, 2004), the parts of a logical argument are called propositions that are classified in premises, inferences, and conclusion. Premises are propositions that begin an argument, inferences, are propositions that are derived from one or...

This report considers three management systems which could rectify the situation. Considering Theory of Constraints, Just In Time and Programme Evaluation and Review Technique, the report recommends that more information regarding the cause of the problems is undertaken, and a suitable programme of revaluation of the business processes is undertaken. Introduction The role of management accounting in the organisation has become so much more that the reporting of the score to managers (Hansen, Mouritsen 2006). In the wake of the decline of Western Manufacturing and the relevance crisis of management accounting to modern business as outlined by Kaplan and Johnson in ‘Relevance Lost’, the traditional cost accounting approach has been largely replaced by alternative methodologies (Kee, Schmidt 2000). The role of the management accounting in the modern firm is not only to report the score, but to seek to influence the score by using techniques and theoretical approaches to improve the business processes. As such it is important for managers to understand the use and usefulness of a variety of alternatives to traditional accounting approaches, especially traditional cost accounting and look to introduce other techniques which may have practical advantages for the firm (DUGDALE, JONES 1998).
