When you throw a football across the field to your friend, you are using physics. You make calculations for all the situations that can occur, such as: distance, wind and weight of the ball. The farther away your object is, the harder you have to throw the ball, or the steeper the angle of your throw, as if your object is on top of a hill and you was at the bottom of the hill. This calculation is done in your mind, and it’s called physics. You just don’t call it that because it’s so natural.
Physics the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The branch of physics that is most relevant to football is mechanics. Watching a football game could be teaching you something other than who threw the …show more content…
Newton’s first law of motion is often stated as. An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Which means the heavier an object is, the more it wants to stay in a steady state. Now, a big linebacker is harder to push around, because they are so heavy. How is it that a small defensive player can tackle a bigger running back? It’s because thanks to two things: Torque, while often heard as an automotive term, torque is actually a general physics term that has many applications. Torque is defined as a twisting force that tends to cause rotation. We call the point where the object rotates the axis of rotation. It’s also great for physicists. Let’s take a look at some words that are important basic physics concepts that will occur in the discussion of football and physics. The first word is acceleration which means the rate of change of velocity with respect to time (this is calculated by subtracting the starting velocity from the final velocity and dividing the difference by the time required to reach that velocity.)
The next words are: force the influence on a body that causes it to accelerate. Mass the amount of substance that an object contains. Momentum, the mathematical product of the mass of a moving object and its velocity. Inertia is the resistance of moving object to a change in its speed or direction, and the resistance of a stationary object to being moved. Torque is a force that tends to produce rotation or twisting.
Finally the last two words are velocity and center of mass. Velocity is the speed with which an object travels over a specific distance during a measured amount of time. The Final word is center of mass. Center of mass is the area of mass that exerts maximum
