How did Pit bulls become the object of fear?

Pit bulls are very playful, loyal and gentle animals. But they have a bad representation of be aggressive all the time. Others have containment issues were they can be great with you, but different when they are in a kennel or on a chain it makes them aggressive. Pit bulls are the object of fear because of the way they are shown in the media as well as the way that they are treated. I had the pleasure of having two pit bulls before we moved to North Dakota. When I was younger we purchased a pit-bull puppy that we raised. Roxie was her name and she later gave birth to 10 puppies that we either sold or gave to friends, except for one in which we kept.
While growing up and playing with Roxie we would run around the yard. She loved to play in the snow and piles of leaves. She was a very sweet dog. She would come and lay on the floor by your feet and just lay there until you moved. My sisters, brother and myself treated her more like a child then a dog. When we were eating something, we gave her some even though our parents told us not to. She loved peanut butter. She was a very good guard dog, because she would let you know when someone would be in the yard or at the door. She would bark to let you know that someone was there, but she never attacked the person. My sister’s pit bull mini is really sweet as well she loves to come and jump on my bed when I am laying their watching television and she will just lay there and go to sleep. Her dad Cash comes into the house and he just walks around and finds a spot him to lie until it is time for him to leave. Mist loves to play. I will take her outside and throw a ball or Frisbee and she will chase it and bring it back to me. When I tell her not to do something she stops doing. It’s all in the way the dog has been trained that makes them who they are.

Pit Bull Attack

...Shakeila Hunt English 116 – Tuesday Dr. Bortolotti Personal Essay 24 May 2016 My Pitbull Attack I could remember this day as if it happened yesterday. It was the middle of spring I had just gotten off the school bus, my friends and I decided to walk down the street to the store for some candy before going home. Once we left out the store we all went our separate ways. When I made it home I took a shower and changed clothes, did my homework, and then did all my chores before I went back outside. Usually when I went outside I’d go directly to the neighbor’s house we lived next to them for years, over the years I became pretty close with their daughter. Unfortunately, no one was home so instead I played with the other neighborhood kids. Once I got bored with playing with them I had nothing else to do so I went back home. When I got in the house I noticed my cousin was there so we went back out to play on my swing set in the backyard. While we were back there the neighbor’s dogs were going crazy barking and growling at us. I really wasn’t scared because my neighbor always told me how they were good dogs and a couple of times when I was over I played with them. We stopped swinging to aggravate them even more, my mom always told me not to bother the dogs but me being young and hardheaded I was always bothering them. A couple days prior to this day I was spraying the dogs with water and one of them had gotten a loose luckily I was able to run in the house before it could get close to...

Pit Bull

...breed label, the Pit Bull. Pit Bulls bad reputation is put across by media labeling them as dangerous dogs and telling our society that they are vicious and unpredictable and that they will turn on you. The media portrays this idea through stories of pit bulls attacking people, which grabs a large amount of attention because they are labeled as Americans most dangerous dog. Stories like “84-year-old women recovering after pit bull attack” or “3-year-old attacked by a pit bull in the Bronx” we hear a lot about and they are put all over the news but stories like “Horror as rescue dog kills and dismembers two-month-old baby while his father slept”, which happened to be a golden retriever attack, we don’t hear much about. Since the media tends to only report attacks done by pit bulls the breed has become horribly misrepresented and misunderstood. Pit bulls can be aggressive, but most animals are when they feel like they are threatened. These dogs are known for their strength, loyalty, obedience, and endurance and unfortunately the wrong people abuse that and use them for dog fighting as entertainment. Pit bulls have been in America for quite some time and used to be war heroes, nanny dogs and America’s sweetheart but in America today they are the most feared dog. The sad reality of this is that the pit bulls have not changed, the people have and their bad reputation is not their fault. Being the owner of a pit bull I would like others to know the truth about pit bulls, that they are...

Pit Bulls Argument Essay

...legislation of the Pit Bull breeds will be presented. One argument they present is that all dogs can attack and cause fatalities. Pit Bulls attacks are the ones that are published in the media and bring a bad reputation to their name. The cases of other attacks are not highlighted in the media, which is why most individuals feel that Pit Bulls are the only breeds who attack others. Also, the behavior of those who do attack are often influenced by other factors, such as the environment they were raised in. German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Jacks Russell’s, Spaniels, St. Bernard’s, and even Labrador retrievers have all been found to be highly represented in biting incidents (American Veterinary Medical Association). In defense of the higher amount of severe injury or fatalities being caused by Pit Bulls, there are other factors that need to be taken into account before the breed can be blamed. The breed may be popular in the victim’s community, and the dog’s treatment by...

...Pit bulls have a bad rep in society, people think Pit Bulls are the issue but it’s actually us humans who are. The bully breed has been viciously accused of being nothing but dangerous and aggressive dogs. This assumption is anything but the truth. “Good dragons under the control of bad people do bad things”(Enos, 2014, p.1) Pit Bulls or any breed of dog are only as cruel and vicious as their environment. Pit Bulls have the worst reputation out of all the dog breeds. Pit bulls may have a bad rep, but that doesn’t mean they should be illegal to own as pets. Would you want to be judge harshly just because someone of your race does something bad? Pitbulls have a bad rep for being aggressive and people just judge the whole breed for a few...

Pit Bulls Argument Essay

...For my first artifact, I wrote an argumentative research paper over the myths associated with Pit Bulls a breed-specific legislation. This essay’s intended audience is adults who live in communities where breed-specific legislation is either in effect or in areas where they are thinking about instating it. The purpose of this artifact was to disprove the myths associated with the Pit Bull and breed-specific legislation, through the presentation of scientific evidence and expert testimonials. In order to persuade this particular audience the paper needs to contain numerous facts and statistics from various credible sources, like peer-reviewed journals, in order to persuade them into accepting facts rather than the popular myths associated with this topic. In order to create a successful argumentative research paper one must follow several rules and expectations. For example, in the introduction of the paper, the author must give the thesis, research question, or overall purpose of the paper so that the audience knows what to expect from the rest of the paper, as well as providing context and...

Pit Bull Research Paper

...The immensely colossal, official medal on a ribbon around the neck of the Pit Bull in the photo is just one of many awards granted to Stubby, most adorned canine war hero in United States history. Stubby’s contribution to the welfare of American soldiers was in many ways unique. Stubby was a stray who turned up one day in the summer of 1917 at the Yale Bowl in Connecticut as soldiers trained. Corporal J. Robert Conroy patted the amicable canine and asked, “How are you today?” Stubby was very astute, so Conroy edified him to shake hands, an artifice that was in great favor with the troops. Then he realized he could edify him to raise his paw up just a little farther towards his brow when he was given the order to, “Salute!” The night afore they sailed for France, Conroy went down to the ship, the S.S. Minnesota, and introduced Stubby to the military police officer who was sentineling it. According to Conroy, the officer was delectated by Stubby’s military salute, enough to let Conroy sneak him onboard the next day, under his overcoat....

The Truth About Pit Bulls Summary

...The article “The Truth About Pit Bulls posted by the ASPCA (American Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals) was posted on their website. The article doesn't have much a specific author or publish date, but the face that it was posted by the ASPCA makes the article credible. The ASPCA is an organization that is devoted to protecting all animals and educating the public on a variety of different animal issues. The overall argument of the article that I've read is to inform the reader that understands the true nature of the pit bull and to debunk common silly myths about the viciousness of the breed itself. The article uses a kind of tone towards pit bulls throughout the article that contributes to pathos appeal. The article doesn't put down a pit bulls and it doesn't go on about how awful the breed is. The tone of telling the readers that the writer doesn't dislike pit bulls; the author actually likes pit bulls. The author never doesn't really comes out and says that, but the tone tells the trader that....

...Pit bulls should not be considered aggressive By: Katie Cole Should pit bulls be considered aggressive? Pit bulls can turn out friendly or aggressive, but it is the owner’s choice on how they turn out, because of the environment the dogs are put into. Pit bulls were used as nanny dogs. Informative Essay On Pit Bull Terrier

...Pit bull terriers were bred in the late 1800s. When baiting large animals was banned, people began fighting their dogs against each other which lead to the creation of the pit bull terrier. Breeders would combined a bulkier and slower bull-dog which was bred to hunt mainly bears and bulls, with a quicker and more agile terrier, to create a dog more fit for fighting. Although the dogs were trained to fight, this did not necessarily mean they showed aggression towards humans or even other dogs (ASPCA, 2017). Just like with any other breed, proper training, commitment, and respect is what will shape a dog. They were being used as fighting dogs, but people were also managing the breed as a household companion at the same time. Granted this...
