Planning and Measuring Performance
I will be evaluating the three appropriate standards on the goals of Verizon Wireless that I discussed in an earlier assignment during week three here participating in Management 521 course. Verizon Wireless three appropriate standards in my bias opinion are the mission statement, goals, and objectives. I will also mention the tools will be utilized measuring the company’s performance against the determined standards.
Verizon Wireless mission statement states: "As a leader in communications, Verizon's mission is to enable people and businesses to communicate with each other. We are also committed to providing full and open communication with our customers, employees, and investors." Verizon Wireless also has a vision statement: "Verizon's commitment to top quality service is well known. Verizon is the pre-eminent service provider in the industry. Our legacy of customer service -- bolstered by the nation's largest and most reliable network -- is unparalleled. And, we continue to make strong progress in delivering on our promise to be the nation's best provider of quality local, data and long distance services." The organization statement of purpose protocol is always in effect throughout the daily routines of all it company’s employees. Executive management constantly is reminding everyone on the company’s mission and vision and the goals the company is striving for. The goals the organization sets are high but attainable. The main goal of Verizon Wireless is to be “The Most Reliable Network”. The company wants to be able to deliver broadband and other wire line and wireless communication innovations to mass market, business, government and wholesale customers. The company also wants to remain on top as being the leader of Network additions. The objective on doing this, Verizon Wireless must stay on top of the competitors by offering a wide range of the latest 4G LTE handsets. Verizon Wireless has already introduced the new Blackberry smart phone. Verizon Wireless is the first carrier to provide this Blackberry product. Verizon Wireless must continue to grow and get into the newer technologies such as VoLTE (Voice over Long Term Evolution). Verizon Wireless is currently the leader getting into this new technology while other competitors such as T-Mobile are still trying to establish a 4G LTE network. Verizon must be the innovator in the wireless industry today. In addition the objective is to achieve the goal of continuing on expanding the network. The revenue and new customer additions will provide the capital dollars needed to keep up with new cell site deployment, cell site modifications, and cell site upgrades that will provide a better and more reliable network in the future days to come. The company's deployment of its 4G LTE network would help it to keep pace with network capacity requirements and meet customer demand for higher speeds.
The tools that I suggest on measuring the performance of Verizon Wireless are the SWOT analysis and benchmarking. The SWOT analysis is a great tool because management ability to measure the company’s strengths and weaknesses as a whole. This tool gives the company the ability to create opportunities that will keep the company far ahead of the competition and maintain the reputation of being the top wireless provider in the United States today. The threats of the completion are always there, but Verizon Wireless continues to have the leading edge on today’s technology and also the future technology. Benchmarking is another great tool. Benchmarking allows the company to view its problems and come up with logical solutions. The company can measure the internal processes and then identify, understand, and adapt to outstanding practices from other companies that are considered to be at the top of their class.
In conclusion, Verizon Wireless will still be the leader in the wireless industries today and in the future because of its commitments the stakeholders and its customers. The company will continue to strive if the organization stays focused on its mission, goals, and objectives. The company needs to continue measuring the performance with SWOT analysis and benchmarking. I am sure other different tools will be implemented in the future on measuring performance, but for now the company just needs to stay focused on the customers’ needs and provide the stakeholders good profit in return and job security.
