Planning for the Future

...According to the College Board (2009), college tuition rates are expected to increase at rates of five to eight percent each year. The cost of one year’s tuition at a public university currently averages $6,585 (College Board, 2009). At a rate of five percent per year, tuition could be increased by $329 each year. Imagine a child who has 15 years before attending college. Is it better to pay $6,585 or $11,520 per year? Fortunately, there are many options available to assist families in saving for future college expenses. When it comes to preparing and paying for college, one option is to start a Qualified Tuition Program, which guarantees current tuition rates and provides tax free savings. Qualified Tuition Programs were created in 1996 by Internal Revenue Code (IRC) 529 (Internal Revenue Manual, 2009). IRC 529 sets forth requirements plans must meet in order to receive federal tax exemption status for Qualified Tuition Programs. These types of programs are commonly referred to as ‘529 plans’ because of the code number they were created under. According to IRS Publication 970 (2009), a Qualified Tuition Program is any “program set up to allow you to either prepay, or contribute to an account for paying, a student’s qualified education expenses”. These programs are set up and maintained by states or eligible educational institutions. There are two types of plans; Prepaid Qualified Tuition Programs and Qualified Tuition Savings Programs. Prepaid Qualified Tuition Programs......

Planning Your Holidays

...Planning the holidays Let me present some reflections on the issue that, I dare say, must be the most exciting for majority of ordinary people, who spend the most of their lives (from 5 to 7 days a week) working and then have a couple of weeks of holiday in summer months (if they have luck). It is planning holidays. In our modern world we can refer to a lot of travel agents, who’ll try to help us choose the best variant for our holiday among infinite multitude of different destinations, tours and travelling programs. It is convenient on the one hand if one has financial opportunity and a willing to trust the planning of their holidays to a manager of a travel agency. He may offer the tourist any kind of a tour according to their wish. To my mind, the most all-embracing and effective way from the informative, cultural point of view is to go on a tour to a foreign countries (or even the places in your country you have never been to) with a bunch of people you don’t know (and even may not like). Joining such tour is a good idea, because it’s rather hard for an average tourist to get around on their own. Some tourists like to make their way around leisurely to see the sites, they don’t like the fast pace of tours, they’d rather have the time to take in each site, not rush through it just to take a picture and say “I’ve been there”. But tours come in all shapes and sizes; one can find the exact offer that isn’t too fast-paced or strenuous. Some tourists...

Charting Your Company’s Future

...Charting Your Company’s Future John Reed of Citicorp was known for insisting that his executives get the big picture. As chairman and CEO, he demanded that business unit heads present their proposed strategies in no more than a few slides. Executives who failed to meet Reed’s exacting standards for brevity met with his unconcealed displeasure. And if it happened too often, they ran the risk of being left out of the loop on future strategy sessions. Many leaders share Reed’s obsession with the big picture, yet our research shows that few companies actually have a clear strategic vision. The problem, we believe, stems from the strategic-planning process itself. The process usually involves the preparation of a large document—culled from a mishmash of data provided by people from various parts of the organization who often have conflicting agendas and poor communication. The report typically begins with a lengthy description of the industry and the competitive situation. There follows a discussion of how to increase market share here and there, capture new segments, or cut costs, which leads to an outline of numerous goals and initiatives. A full budget is almost invariably attached, as are lavish graphs and a surfeit of spreadsheets. No wonder so few strategic plans turn into action; executives are paralyzed by the muddle. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We suggest an alternative approach to strategic planning, based not on preparing a document but on drawing a picture...

Anthropology and Your Future

...Anthropology and Your Future    Consider issues that are current in our own society today. Where will the application of an anthropological perspective be most effective? Consider and describe how the study of anthropology and its unique perspectives on human cultural behavior will most benefit you in your life and future career. Please use concepts and terminology from the text.   Your initial response should be 150-200 words in length. Please support your claims with examples from the text, recommended material, and/or scholarly articles. Considering society as it is today, I’d say that the place of anthropology is to provide clues about how we are developing into the societies of the future, while at the same time. providing a critical historical background supported on research from the anthropology of the past so as to have a more comprehensive understanding of how our societal evolution is taking place. The anthropologist has the important role of letting the society of today know how it was before their time, so they can see their place in history and experience their lives as the consequence of the unfolding of those historical tendencies. By doing this analysis guided by the knowledge of the anthropologist, the regular citizen will be able to see what is to come in the future and how he or she may affect that evolution now that the clues from the past will explain the consequences of our decisions (or the decisions of today’s politicians, for example). Hold the Future in Your Hand

...“Hold the Future in your Hand” DeVry University “Hold the Future in your Hand” In 1962, Sony put an ad out to introduce one of the first micro televisions (TV). This tiny box was a milestone in television viewing at that point in time. Who could believe that in is era that Sony would create a television that could actually be held in the palm of the hand? At only 8lbs. it is not much larger than your telephone. Think of it, it’s the early 60’s and a typical household only had one television, then suddenly an advertisement comes out describing a television that can be held in your hand. Imagine it, a rechargeable TV, one that could be used by normal battery, auto battery or by plugging it into the wall. Now all of a sudden this was not only a small TV to fit in a person’s hand, but one that could be brought anywhere. No longer was a family tied to watching TV just at home, now television was able to be watched anywhere. The 1962 ad “Hold the Future in your Hands, by Sony” is an effective advertisement that in it’s time was cutting edge technology; Sony shows appeal to men and women, versatility as well ad keeping up with a demanding future. Let Your Hopes, Not Your Hurts. Shape Your Future

...declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope Jeremiah 29:11 There are times in life that it feels like the future looks desolate. This great scripture on hope gives encouragement on my life and reminds me that God is in control. I am here to influence you today that you and I both have bright futures ahead of us. There are times when we often go astray but God always steps in on time. We cannot take today for granted, for we not know what tomorrow holds. There is hope for every one of God’s children and I am here to remind you that he has plans for each and every one us. I always tend to look back at this scripture whenever I feel the need to give up. In the past, I’ve felt like I wasn’t going to make it and like I wasn’t strong enough. I felt like I wasn’t good enough for a successful future because of what I’ve been told, but then I started praying and asking God to step in and take charge. I then began to step back and let God do his works and once I made that major step, the LORD did exactly what he said he would do. Speaking on today would’ve been a nerve wrecking assignment for me in the past, but now that my spirit of fear is gone, I have the courage to do anything I put my mind to. My speaking goals is exactly what I’m living at this very moment. They are what I’m presenting to you at this very moment. I am a strong believer in hope and having a bright future. I do believe that public speaking will get me where I need to......

The Battle Is for Your Future

...Battle Is For Your Future Shaborn Vail Genesis 37:5-37:8 “And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: For, Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.” Genesis 37:5-8 Joseph’s brothers already hated him because he was the favorite son of their father. But once Joseph began to talk about his dreams, once he began to talk about his future, their hatred for him increased and they began to question him by asking him “Shalt you indeed reign over us? Shall you indeed have dominion over us?” Josephs brothers were not so concerned about who he was, as a seventeen year old dreamer. Their concern was over who he was going to become. They were not afraid of his present, they were afraid of his future. And they wanted to stop him from becoming who God said he would become and going where God said he would go. They wanted to stop him from entering into his destiny. If there is anything Satan desires to do today it is to keep you from entering into your destiny. He wants to keep you from your future! Satan does not care if you live in your past.......

Succession Planning: Insurance for the Organization's Future

...Succession Planning: Insurance for the Organization's Future What is Succession Planning? Succession planning is a process whereby an organization ensures that employees are recruited and developed to fill each key role within the company (Mathis, Jackson & Valentine, 2013, p. 47). The process of succession planning begins by recruiting excellent employees. Managers in turn utilize their workers abilities and understanding by preparing them for advancement into more challenging roles. Succession planning essentially is what makes it possible for employees to continually advance into a needed role within the organization. So the sole purpose of succession planning is to ensure that the organization has employees ready to fill these new roles when needed. Done effectively, succession planning can prepare the company for expansion and organizational reform for new opportunities to help build your company for success. Why Should Businesses Use Succession Planning? Succession planning is a logical way for businesses to prepare for the future. Eventhough many employees think of succession planning as, who is going to take over the business? Succession planning is much more than just the changeover of ownership. Businesses must prepare to develop and interchange key employees and staff and anticipate and plan for the impacts that any transition in ownership could have. When succession planning is effectively executed, companies experience a smooth transition (Simoneaux......

Twenty Years Cannot Handicap Your Mind for Your Future

...Twenty years cannot handicap your mind for your future English 219 Jan. 28, 2015 It was time. It was overdue. She tossed the empty water bottle into the trash and opens the front door to leave her home, in the quiet neighborhood. As Laney walked into a clean updated looking office, with her scarf around her neck, she didn't want to be too late for the job interview. After all, these years, a real job interview first time in a long time. She handed the security guard an appointment card and went into the elevator, she exhaled noisily. "I'm never doing this again, I can’t believe I’m doing it now." she said, closing her blue colored eyes for a moment. Now on the second floor, she opened the glass door to Suite 2 and glanced at the welcome sign of the Medical Facility. The receptionist looked up from her desk with a smile and asked Laney to hand over her resume. Once she took Laney’s resume the receptionist let her know that it would be a few moments until Rachel, the head of HR, finished with a client and invited her to sit in the lobby to wait. With her sitting straight in a modern mustard chair by the door, Laney folded her hands on top of her legs to wait and couldn’t help but ponder her past. It was May of last year, three months after she had turned 45 and over 20 years since she had held any kind of a job. Laney never intended to become a stay-at-home mother for this long. Business and owner details: Renowned worldwide designer Coco Chanel was born with the name Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel on August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France. With her trademark suits and minimal dark dresses, Coco Chanel made ageless outlines that are still famous today. She herself turned into an abundantly respected style symbol known for her straightforward yet advanced outfits matched with incredible adornments, for example, a few strands of pearls. As Chanel once said,"luxury must be agreeable, else it is not extravagance." Her initial years, then again, were definitely not as glamorous as it would seem. After her mom's demise, Chanel was placed in a halfway house by her dad who acted as a merchant. She was raised by nuns who taught her the way to sew—an ability that would prompt her labor of love. Her handle originated from an alternate occupation altogether. Amid her concise profession as a vocalist, Chanel performed in clubs in Vichy and Moulins where she was called "Coco." Some say that the name originates from one of the melodies she used to sing, and Chanel herself said that it was an "abbreviated rendition of cocotte, the French word for 'kept lady," as per an article in The Atlantic. Around the age of 20, Chanel got to be included with Etienne Balsan who offered to help her begin a millinery business in Paris. She soon left him for one of his......
