...In the six chapters of Luigi Luca Cavalli-Sforza’s book, Genes, Peoples, and Languages, the author explained his point of view on genetics, prehistory, and the understanding of human race. The goal that Luigi Luca Cavalli-Sforza was trying to accomplish with his work was to track human evolution over the past hundred thousand years. As the book began with “Genes and History,” Cavalli-Sforza referred to Leopardi’s play Copernicus that includes the Sun, the first and Last Hours of the Day, and Copernicus. In the play, the Sun was tired of revolving around the Earth and wanted to be still in the center of the solar system. As Cavalli-Sforza continued, he states that Copernicus reminded him of race and racism since “each population believes that it is the best in the world” (5). Not only racism, but the first chapter described the difference in blood types/groups that make each person different from the other but is also inherited. Also keep in mind that the narrator of this story represents several generations of men and women from the town. The story begins at the huge funeral for Miss Emily Grierson. Nobody has been to her house in ten years, except for her servant. Her house is old, but was once the best house around. The town had a special relationship with Miss Emily ever since it decided to stop billing her for taxes in 1894. But, the "newer generation" wasn't happy with this arrangement, and so they paid a visit to Miss Emily and tried to get her to pay the debt. She refused to acknowledge that the old arrangement might not work any more, and flatly refused to pay. Thirty years before, the tax collecting townspeople had a strange encounter with Miss Emily about a bad smell at her place. This was about two years after her father died, and a short time after her lover disappeared from her life. Anyhow, the stink got stronger and complaints were made, but the authorities didn't want to confront Emily about the problem. So, they sprinkled lime around the house and the smell was eventually gone. Everybody felt sorry for Emily when her father died. He left her with the house, but no money. Fitzgerald has succeeded in offering up commentary on a variety of themes — justice, power, greed, betrayal, the American dream and so on through Nick as a narrator. There are two most impressive symbols in the novel. The green light at the end of Daisy’s dock and the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg remains obsessing in readers’ minds. The first is a perfect example of the manner in which characters The Great Gatsby. Situated at the end of Daisy’s East Egg dock and barely visible from Gatsby’s West Egg lawn, the green light represents Gatsby’s hopes and dreams. Gatsby associates it with Daisy, to whom “ he bought house to be near her, he threw all those parties hoping she would wander in one night”. In Chapter 1 he reaches toward the green light on the other side of the river, in the darkness as a guiding light to lead him to his goal.
