There are two forms of port expanders: internal and external. An internal expander has a connection inside the computer, typically on the motherboard and the only part the user sees is the expansion plate that contains multiple ports. As for an external device, it plugs into the existing port and then has multiple places to connect. The most common versions are used for USB and Ethernet ports. There are numerous types of ports that have available port expanders for them. Here is a list that I have compiled: * Ethernet port expander * Firewire port expander * DB-25 port expander * Serial port expander * USB port expander * VGA port expander * DVI port expander * SCSI port expander * Audio port expander * Video port expander * Microphone port expander * RS-422 port expander * Modbus serial port expander * SATA port expander * SAS port expander * SSD port expander Port expanders are generic devices that can be used with any computer as long as the computer...

An Alternative to Foreign Oil

...AN ALTERNATIVE TO FOREIGN OIL An Issue Paper Presented to Professor Sheila Christensen Professor of Marketing Utah Valley University For Management 2200 By Greg Gossard July 30, 2012 Executive Summary Over the past few decades, in the United States, oil is the primary fuel consumed by most vehicles on our roads and in our air space today. It is estimated that two-thirds of the oil used is due to the transportation sector. This report will examine the pros and cons of the need for alternate solutions to the ever increasing reliance the United States has on foreign oil. There are practical alternatives and solutions that the United States could implement in the short run, and especially in the long run as well. The idea of domestic drilling, along with natural gas, and plug-in hybrids are definitely worthwhile options to look at for an alternate solution to the dilemma of oil consumption. While some may argue that these other sources are not consistent enough or wouldn’t be efficient resources for alternative energy, there is enough evidence supporting claims to the contrary In financing research projects exploring alternative energy, the U.S. would easily be able to use all of those resources of energy to remove our dependence on foreign oil consumption. On average, the U.S. spends about one billion dollars per day on foreign oil. That adds up to be thirty billion on average per month, and over three hundred and sixty billion annually. This is a gross and unnecessary...

Abstract This lesson will provide students with an opportunity to understand energy and electricity basics such as energy conservation, energy metrics and ways of minimizing electricity waste around the house. On the first day students will learn about various electrical appliances and their associated electricity consumption. Students will learn how to read and interpret appliance energy labels to extract information such as appliance wattage. Students will have access to a variety of electrical appliances such as laptop, toaster, microwave, fridge, desktop computer, coffee maker, paper punch, kettle, projector, desk lamp and variety of bulbs. On the second day students will learn the differences between plug loads and phantom (vampire) loads. These differences are necessary to understand the level of electricity waste associated with human activities such not unplugging appliances when not in use. Moreover, students will brainstorm on ways to save electricity around the house or in school. Students will also carry out a survey of electrical appliances found around the house and in the classroom. On the third day students, will learn how to carry out energy audit surveys. Energy audit will include measuring electricity using energy meters such as commercially available Kill-a-Watt meters. After collecting electricity data from actual appliances, student will engage in data analysis...

...complimentary plug-in module for class 5 Introduction “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man.” – Swami Vivekananda This project is intended to bring in light the scope to illustrate ways in which our school education stands and in which direction it should develop. It is not intended to be a coherent historical survey of this field, nor can it claim to be a balanced selection from theorists of current influence and future pathways. For this reason it seems useful here to clarify the lines of thought developed in the contents of this proposal, so that the reader can appreciate the context in which we must put our strategies and sincere efforts. An actual situation will be explored and real life experiences will be taken in, as well as problems, which might be thought more intrinsic to formulation of aims, content, methods (and so on) of a particular primary school education system. In the proposal I wish to create the context, take it through the framework of reasoning the context, bringing out relevance and defining the objective and the way to meet it. The project Context India needs entrepreneurs and innovators, more than just support executives Education in the context of current technology With the advent of new technologies, available so widely in today’s time has given numerous other opportunities than the traditional ones. Zero Energy Buildings

...major contributors for greenhouse gases. Hence, with the intention of reducing the energy usage which reduces the environmental pollution energy efficient measures have been introduced. The goal of these measures is to decrease the energy use of the building substantially and provide the building's energy needs with on-site renewable energy supply like Photovoltaics. This results in a concept called Net zero energy buildings or Zero Energy Buildings. Zero energy building (ZEB) is a building with zero energy consumption i.e., it consumes only the amount of energy generated by the renewable power on the building site. NZEBs produce zero carbon emissions annually as various renewable energy technologies are deployed on the building site. This paper addresses the energy efficient measures that can be implemented to cut down the power consumption. The energy efficient features implemented in ZEBs for energy savings is justified with a case study. I. INTRODUCTION The environmental effects that Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions across countries at different levels of development received global attention on what has been done to mitigate these emissions. The continued growth of global emissions of carbon dioxide due to energy consumption and their adverse effects on global warming forces the world to save the environment from further damage. As per EPA in 2011, the combustion of fuels to electrify the homes, buildings and industry in U.S. accounted to 38%...

Work

...Jason Haas Research paper 1 Mr. Smith unit 4 a printed circuit board containing the principal components of a computer or other device, with connectors into which other circuit boards can be slotted. A bus is the path through which a device sends its data so that it can communicate with the CPU and or other devices. There are traditionally three different types of buses found on a mother board which are the front side bus (F.S.B) which can be explained as being the interface between the cpu & motherboard, Specifically the north bridge/ memory controller hub.  The second bus typically found is called a Intel GTL which can be explained as the single connection to the north bridge shared between all cpu`s. The third most typical bus found in a motherboard is DDR-SDRAM (Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory). This upcoming replacement for SDRAM is basically the same product, but it operates twice per clock cycle. DDR-SDRAM is only about 10 to 20 percent more expensive than traditional SDRAM and provides better performance than single-channel RDRAM. A port expander can be any device to which one existing or onboard port becomes two or more, An advantage to this is the ability to allow more devices of a particular port. The internal expander has a connection inside the computer typically on the motherboard. An external device plugs into the existing port and then has multiple places to connect. When not part of a computer system, these...

Independence on Foreign Oil

...Introduction In 2006, the price for a gallon of gasoline rose to over three dollars a gallon (Freeman 1). The United States has seen almost every commodity rise due to demand or inflation over the years but gasoline is near the top when it comes to such an extravagant leap. It has been argued that our nation is dependent upon oil from terrorists and that the money is even used to fund Iran’s nuclear program (Freeman 3). Becoming a nation that is energy independent could help de-fund terrorist organizations and significantly bring down the cost of gasoline. David Freeman writes, “The good news is that the technology is commercially available today to convert the superabundance of renewable energy into electricity and other usable forms to power our high-energy lives” (103). Oil is the major fuel source in the United States and a large amount of oil is hidden under the ocean floors (Woodside 5). Many energy experts and environmentalists question whether it is cost effective to drill miles beneath the ocean floor as well as the effects it might have on the atmosphere (5-6). Another option for America’s transition to oil independence is reverting back to the original diesel engine, invented in 1900 (62). Woodside writes, “Peanut oil and any vegetable oil can be refined to run automobile engines or furnaces” (62). With so many other alternatives to traditional oil, it’s a wonder why America isn’t working harder to become energy independent in regards to oil and to lower the cost...
