President Benigno S. Aquino III or commonly referred to as “Pnoy” delivered his fourth annual State of the Nation Address in Batasang Pambansa Complex, Quezon City on July 22, 2013 with the theme, “Sa Gitna ng Daang Matuwid.”

The midterm SONA marked his third year in presidency and opened the 16th Congress in a joint session of both houses. The annual address started at exactly 4:03 PM and ended at 5:46 PM. It was the longest SONA he had given so far, earning 88 rounds of applause from Senators, Congressmen, government officials, local and international media and other dignitaries and important personalities in the country.

The SONA this year was about PNoy and his administration’s achievements like approval of the Sin Tax Reform Law and “Responsible Parenthood Law” (RH Law), reforms in Education System(K-12), Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), increase in number of TESDA graduates, increase in Philhealth enrolles from 62% to 81% with improved benefits and many more.

But according to critics or analysts, President Aquino did not mention solid agenda on how he will lead us to his 'daang matuwid' campaign until 2016. Nancy Binay highlights that Pnoy didn't include on his speech ways to improve employment rate in the country. In spite of the gross domestic product (GDP) growth for 2012 and various economic reform programs of Aquino government for his three years in the Palace, Philippines still has the worst unemployment rate in Asia.

In my own opinion, President Aquino was successful in relaying the achievements and regaining the trust of the Filipino People in his presidency. However I felt that the speech was too long and I noticed that he missed some important issues like the amendment or repeal of the Cybercrime Act and especially the 10 Billion peso pork scam. He should’ve included this in his SONA since his main goal in his Daang Matuwid

Sona 2015 Reaction Paper

...On July 27, 2015, President Benigno “PNoy” Aquino delivered his sixth and final State of the Nation Address, at Batasan Complex, Quezon City, which is considered as his longest SONA. For the past five years, the Philippines made a rapid advancement especially with regards to its economy. It seemed that the Philippine economy reacted positively with PNoy’s “Daang Matuwid”. The Philippines now is slowly climbing the global competitiveness rankings thanks to PNoy’s advocacy to good governance reforms. President Aquino, highlighted his speech with the achievements of his administration including the improved economy and outlook; increased collection of revenues and benefits of his social service programs (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4ps) and PhilHealth), comparing this to the past administration of Macapagal Arroyo including fertilizer fund scam; the NBN-ZTE anomalous deal and "Hello Garci" scandal. In our opinion, President Aquino rightly delivered a summary of what his administration has done to the country. He had to use previous administration's scandals so that the mistakes it incurred will not be repeated. The most unexpected part of his SONA was his indirect speech towards Vice President Jejomar Binay the standard-bearer of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) for next year elections and his presidential endorsement. Our President had dedicated his term on apprehending the corruption in our country. Comparing to the past administration, we can state that the...

A Failure to Comply

...A Failure to Comply Justine Marie R. Masangcap It is disappointing to see and to hear that President Noynoy Aquino’s Daaang Matuwid program against corruption has failed. From PNoy’s latest SONA, the programs that succeeded are enumerated and expounded. Education and poverty are upheld, but many say that it is still not worthy. The administration is still lacking in terms of programs and actions. Pay once said that during his reign, there will be a “Wang-Wang” ban and road reconstructions for better and easier travel, but the MMDA office is still experiencing traffics, transportation problems and road failures. Employees get late for work, students wake up earlier to prevent the traffic, business produce low profit and a lot experience headache and frustration. The Aquino Administration is fighting corruption, they uphold programs and services for funds and other financial matters, but why is it that DepEd is having problems in finances for the teachers’ salary and for school renovations? There are low number of teachers, low number of school facilities, but high number of students. It is not balanced and proportional. These situations may lead to students’ lacking knowledge just like in the latest news saying that a lot of pupils are asking why Apolinario Mabini is sitting in the whole movie of “Heneral Luna” considering he is one of the country’s heroes. In terms of poverty matters, it is said that the rate from the start of his reign up until now lessen, but it is not transparent...

...PNoy's longest SONA is short on key policy issues by Ira Pedrasa, ABS-CBNnews.com Posted at 07/22/2013 10:06 PM | Updated as of 07/22/2013 10:10 PM MANILA - It was President Benigno Aquino III’s longest State of the Nation Address (SONA) so far, and maybe the longest post-1986. Despite a close to 2-hour State of the Nation Address, two analysts still found it short on key policy decisions. They said it lacked depth on issues that mattered to his overall theme of “inclusive growth.” Aquino's first SONA in 2010 ran for close to 40 minutes, his second ran for 53 minutes, and his third ran for around one hour and 30 minutes. Aquino’s fourth, which went on for around hour and 43 minutes, was replete with “melodramatic” clips, University of the Philippines sociologist Nicole Curato noted. “It felt like it was crafted for foreign investors, he’s doing a cheerleader role, but in terms of him playing an elected official to his bosses, it had melodramatic clips that [do not] affect us in real life," she said. UP political analyst Jean Encinas-Franco also noted the “long, boring” speech that did not dig deep into issues that really mattered. For instance, there was no discussion on how he would generate jobs for Filipinos, she said. “There was not anything about job creation, rights of labor.” She said Aquino reiterated too much on the conditional cash transfer program even if it can't solve poverty. “Let us be reminded that the budget for the [CCT] is from a loan from the World...
