|Activity 1.3.3 Thermodynamics |

Introduction

Think back to the last time someone complained about a door being left open. What did you notice about the temperature within the room as a result of the open door? In Activity 1.3.3 you will investigate the effects of work, thermo energy, and energy on a system, as in the case of the room with the door left open.

Procedure

...There are 3 kinds of loops—for loop, while loop, and do while loop. Under which circumstances would each kind of loop be more appropriate? Explain your answers using specific examples. For loop- The for loop is best used when the number of iterations is known. The for loop is best used to repeat the loop a fixed number of times. The Boolean-expression is tested at the beginning of the loop. The for loop has the form: for (initialization; Boolean-expression; increment) {nested statements }. A for loop can be used to show every number divisible by 3 between 1 and 60. For (int num=0; num , 60; num++) { If (num % 3 == 0) { System.out.println( “#: “ + dex); } } While loop- While loops are best used when the exiting condition has nothing to do with the number of loops. The While loop tests the Boolean-expression at the beginning of the loop. It is in the form : While (Boolean-expression) { nested statements} The while loop can be used to prompt the user until the exit variable (any negative number) is entered. while ( input > 0) { System.out.println(“Please enter number. Enter negative number to exit.”) } Do while loop- It is best to use the do while loop when the iteration must be executed at least once. The do while loop tests the Boolean-expression at the end of the loop. It has the form: do { nested statements } while (Boolean-expression); The do while loop can be used to show the same message multiple times. int tries = 3; int count = 1; ...

#### Poe V. Leonard

...BACKGROUND Because this is an appeal from the denial of a motion for summary judgment, we construe the evidence in the light most favorable to Poe, the non-moving party. See, e.g., Goldberg v. Cablevision Sys. Corp., 261 F.3d 318, 324 (2d Cir.2001). I. Factual Background A. The Filming of the Trooper Candidate Testing Videos At some time during the fall of 1992, several administrative officials of the Connecticut State Police ("CSP") and the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services began to revise the testing procedures for trooper candidates at the CSP Training Academy ("police academy"). Captain Leonard, who had just assumed command of the CSP Bureau of Selections and Training,[1] supervised this ongoing project along with Dr. Martin Anderson ("Dr. Anderson"), the Chief Personnel Psychologist for the State of Connecticut. A particular focus of this project was the development 127*127 of several testing videos, designed to screen out those trooper candidates with poor observational and communicative skills. In essence, trooper candidates would be required to view a videotaped scene of a crime or other representative "real life" scenario that CSP officers typically confront and then to explain what they had observed. As originally planned, the video scenes would include a variety of circumstances: a depiction of a person driving while intoxicated, a man with a weapon who stops and robs a victim, a simple trespass, a "static" crime scene, and a scene with a......

#### 3 Day Activity Anaysis

...3-Day Exercise Activity Analysis Nicole Pehrson SCI/241 May 10, 2013 Thomas Phillips In this paper, I will review my 3 day activity analysis of physical activities in my life and address ways to better this part of my life. I always feel like I am busy and always on the go. I work full time, school, and of course cleaning, cooking, and keeping up my house hold. As much as I feel I am always moving and on the go, I feel like I should be in better shape, but I’m not. This course has helped me learn to be healthier and in better shape, with not a lot of changes. My daily exercise habits are pretty minimal. I start in the morning with stretching then getting ready for work. I then come home and clean the house and cook. I then try and take an evening walk or jog. I just got my Insanity DVD’s back so I have started doing that as well. It is a 40 minute workout that I do in the evening. I enjoy doing this rather than walking or jogging, especially since it is getting so hot outside. I do not get a lot of exercise at work because I sit at a desk all day, but I make up for it when I get home by cleaning and my evening jog. One day a week I deep clean my house. This seems to really get my heart pumping because I dance around the house while doing so. I am always busy, but honestly I think I have more energy because I am always doing something rather than sitting at home. The super tracker results summary page showed that within the 3 days I tracked my exercise,......

#### Unit 3: Outdoor and Adventurous Activities(A3)

...Unit 3: Outdoor and Adventurous Activities(A3) The environmental impact on hill walking can be caused by many aspects which may have been done by humans but also from natural meanings. In that case I will be looking specifically at Long Mynd as it is a great example how human can live in harmony with nature, but there will be also some visible places where people left their track after them. Long Mynd has an area of over 22 square kilometres (8.5 sq mi), most of which takes the form of a heathland plateau and has a long history that stretches to bronze age. Erosion play a significant role at Long Mynd as we can see that in the past, many houses and other structures have been build by stones that were present there and over history, if the place wouldn’t be touched by human hand, it may could look differently shaped and formulate naturally, but it didn’t. Today’s modern houses that are built on those lands are made from different resources and aren’t necessarily taken from the land itself but from somewhere else; like quarries. Long Mynd doesn’t consists of many types of rocks and today the steep and narrow valleys are covered in a thin layer of soil, with a low pH, able to support only strong grasses, rushes, and heathers. Beneath the soil the evidence of the ancient and chequered past can be seen, and the rocky outcrops and scree slopes are excellent places to view the different layers of ancient rock. Wildlife at Long Mynd doesn’t have as much variety as Yellowstone park...

To show how specific and how much great detail paid into decorating the place. 3. "He had come like a thief in the night." Where in literature is this allusion taken from? What is the significance of the allusion? You may need to put the expression into a search engine in order to find the source of the allusion. Both verses are from the bible and are referring to the coming of Jesus. 4. The most featured word throughout the story is blood, yet Poe has carefully chosen it to represent horror. Find two passages in the story, where the word blood is used to describe the color. Substitute a word of your choosing and write the passage. Is the passage as effective with your substitution? Why or why not? But in this chamber only, the color of the windows failed to go (correspond) with the decorations. The planes here were scarlet- a deep blood color. But within the western or black chamber the effect of the ire-light that streamed onto the dark hangings through the blood-tinted panes, was ghostly (ghastly) in...

#### Unit2 Edgar Allan Poe

...Unit 2 Edgar Allen Poe (1809-1849) [pic] The American Romanticism I. What is Romanticism Originated in the second half of the 18th century, romanticism was a key movement in the Counter-Enlightenment, a reaction against the Age of Enlightenment. Romanticism emphasized intuition, imagination, and feeling, to a point that has led to some Romantic thinkers being accused of irrationalism. Romanticism focuses on Nature; a place free from society's judgement and restrictions. Romanticism blossomed after the age of Rationalism, a time that focused on handwork and scientific reasoning. Washington Irving and James Fenimore Cooper, and those of the late period contain Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Edgar Allan Poe.
