The article I chose relates to adults as they come into midlife and how they are adapting to changes in how they adapt to plans for the future. The article is based on the interviews they had by several adults and the study was to see how they would measure in certain areas of their lives. Two tests was administered one for ego development and the other is the Thematic Apperception Test. As the results indicated, The test confirmed that adults that subjects high in ego development revealed greater complexity as differentiation in plans for the future as evidenced by a greater variety of goal commitments for the future than subjects low in ego development(Journal of Personality & Social Psychology; Apr1986, Vol. 50 Issue 4, p800-807, 8p). Generativity on the other hand tallied up the TAT scores on power and motivation. This supports the argument that that generativity implies a blending of agency and communion in human experience. The results were discussed in terms of recent research in adult personality and the theoretical writings of Erikson (1969, 1980) and Becker (1973). This article was very useful and d provide in detail on how adults in midlife are engaging in social aspects of their lives relative to how plans will be affected. If a research was to be conducted on this topic I would reference the information found in this article because it actually explained a lot about the complexity and the generativity of adults in midlife. I too think that more information will be needed if this was something that had to be used as a research paper because it gives facts and statistics but for me I would need more information in relation to the social development in adults. Though the information provided was very useful and it gave me somewhat of a perspective of how adults perceive things as they get older in life and how some things are affected by

Boiling Points

...Boiling Points and Intermolecular Forces Purpose: The purpose of this lab exercise is to test the theory and rules for London and dipole-dipole forces and using VSPER theory relate how these forces interact to affect the boiling points of hydrogen compounds of elements in groups 14 through group 17. Question: What is the trend in boiling points of the hydrogen compounds of elements in groups 14-17? Hypothesis: a) I predict that group 14 will have the lowest boiling point for each number of electrons, 15 second, 16 third and 17 fourth. This is because as you follow the groups each one has one less bonded hydrogen which should make it more polar and harder to separate. I also predict that the element highest up in each group on the periodic table will have the lowest boiling point and then second, third and fourth. This is because as the molecules go down they get bigger meaning they have more atoms giving them more london forces making them harder to separate. Analysis: b) c) Group 14: - CH4 is a tetrahedral shape so the difference C and H have in electronegativty does not matter because the forces cancel out making this a non-polar molecule. Only having 10 electrons, CH4 has almost no london forces attracting it together, because of these two factors CH4 ends up having a very low boiling point. - SiH4 is a tetrahedral shape so the small difference Si and H have in electronegativty does not matter because the forces cancel out making this a non-polar molecule. Only...

Point of Sale

...Point of Sale (POS) and Inventory management is vitally important for any business that sells a product. An inventory system must stasis having enough inventories on hand to meet the insistence of customers while investing as little money as possible in inventory. An inventory system is basically a development whereby a business keeps track of the goods and material it has available. In its snap sense it can be done manually by a count at the end of each day. In this way it is possible to keep a record of the goods coming in to the business and goods being sold. However this is only really relevant for small businesses that do not have a lot of stock. For larger business it is more likely that a computerized system will be essential. These days a computerized Point of Sale and inventory system is the most likely to be used by medium and large businesses although some small businesses may also use this. These commonly use bar codes or radio frequency identification tags to keep a record of inventory objects. This can be used to keep a track of customer orders, monitor the stock a business has available for render orders and also provide details of when inventory needs to be restocked. Using computerized Point of Sale with Inventory will give benefits to the business owners, employees/staff and to the customers. Computers and bar codes allow for a more adept management of inventory levels and provide a clearer view of inventory movement. More businesses are using transactional review...

Point of Sales

...POS (Point-of-Sale) System Kenyatta O'Neal CIS/207 December 8, 2013 Karen Miles POS (Point-of-Sale) System The POS system or Point-of-Sales was initially started in 1879, when James Ritty came up with the idea of a cash register that records the daily sales to address the issue of dishonest employees who frequently pocketed money from the customer instead of depositing it. Plenty of enhancements were made over the years to the cash registers until the early 1970s. This was the year the first computer driven cash registers were displayed. They were basically a mainframe computer packaged as a store controller that could control certain registers. At this point peer-to-peer communication, Local Area Network (LAN) backups, remote initialization, and utilize client-server technology was used. Retail software based on PC technology was mainstream in the retail business by the late 1980s. An integrated POS system of today allows retailers to operate every outlet of their business, because they are faster, more secure, and more reliable than their predecessors. These POS systems can help reduce paperwork, track inventory, and market to the customers through one easy to use process. Information is contained in one database, making it easy to search for any portion of information and connect it to others through reports and it also makes more time for business owners to manage their businesses rather than being tied up with details. POS systems are designed to minimize the time...

...an art in technology. Point of Sale (POS) systems are becoming the norm in most modern successful businesses. Fast, efficient and accurate transactions equate to satisfied customers who return time and time again to patronize establishments who possess the ability to exploit those characteristics. Many have found that using a POS enables a business to do just that. Successful owners and managers of successful businesses embrace the changes that come with technology. Modern technology has entered almost every aspect of our lives. From the way we do business, the entertainment we enjoy, even the food we eat. Almost gone are the days of servers yelling back to the chefs/cooks to make an order of “pigs in a blanket” (wrapped sausage) or an “eve with a lid” (apple pie). Also, an ever increasing number of restaurant owners and managers have come to the realization that computer technology has greatly reduced the required amount of time performing routine tasks such as inventory, resupply, menu analysis, bottom line profits, payroll, and the list goes on. The focus of this paper is centered on technology in the hospitality industry, specifically, the restaurant business. This paper will address the type of systems available to the restaurateur and his or her employees. I will go into detail of how these systems enhance the business of running a restaurant successfully. First, key features of some of the more widely used systems. Point of Sales systems (POS)...

Tipping Point

...This book is all about how things around will be affected by a simple or small change. This book is entitled “The Tipping Point” and is written by Malcolm Gladwell. I believe this is the best book among the three that I’ve read. For me this is the most interesting book of the three. The reason for that is because the different stories here are more relatable than the stories from the other two books. There are so many things that are interesting about this book. The first thing that caught my attention was the first part of the book which contains the acclaims for this book. Just by reading those lines, you would get the feeling that there are a lot of things that you would learn from the book. True enough, once you’ve finished reading the book you would make certain realizations about life and agree with what Gladwell says in the book. The next part that caught my attention is the part where he talked about yawning being contagious. Before reading this part I already know that yawning is a contagious act, that if one person sees you yawning he or she would also yawn few moments after you started yawning. What I didn’t know is that just by also reading the word “yawn”, a person would also be yawning, and I’ve experienced it first hand when I read this part. I yawned a few times before I finished reading that part, and after reading that part I said to myself that I shouldn’t read when I’m tired especially when there is the word “yawn”. Next thing is chapter 1 when he started...

Boiling Point

...obtained from 5.00 g to 2.30 g of the sublimate compound. After we purify the acid we collected the pure and sublimate benzoic acid into two different capillary tubes. The two was then subjected to melting point through oil bath. Melting point is the temperature at which a given solid will melt. The oil bath was preferred because it is able to measure temperature even higher than 100 °C and are highly recommendable for compounds which have higher boiling points. As it was seen in the results, the sublimate had an initial temperature of 118 °C and stopped melting at 123 °C while the pure benzoic acid started from the initial temperature of 115 °C and stopped melting at 120 °C. This indicated that the pure benzoic acid has a higher vapour pressure than sublimate. The percentage recovery was computed and had a low percentage of 46%. INTRODUCTION Sublimation is a technique used to purify solid mixtures. [1] We used this process to purify the compound of impure benzoic acid. The impurities in the benzoic acid have amino compounds that are present in a larger extent and must be removed because of phenyl and benzyl compounds that seriously affect the product. [2] This process occurs if the vapour pressure of the substances greater than the atmospheric pressure at the melting point. [3] The process of purification can be done only if the impurities are non-volatile or have significantly lower vapour pressure than the pure compound. The objective of this experiment are: [1] To purify...

Tipping Point Reflection

...394: Paper #1 01/11/2015 The Tipping Point Hush Puppies, mavens, Sesame Street, and New York City crime rates; all things that seem to have nothing in common until you look at them in the right context. The one common denominator they all share is they had a tipping point, and are examples of how little things can make a big difference in society. Malcolm Gladwell recognizes this threshold in everyday life, and in the products we use. He sees that a sudden increase in the sales of a shoe can be triggered by only a selective few that decide to wear them while they were unpopular, or how cleaning up the subway system can generate a significant decrease in crime. A single person could make significant changes in society although they represent a very insignificant number in the total population. If that one person is responsible for a tipping point a chain reaction can be made out of a single decision. Tipping points are exactly what the phrase describes; a point where the threshold has been met, so it theoretically “tips.” This does not come due to chance however. Gladwell argues that there are certain aspects of a product, norm, or person that are required to exceed a threshold and cause a reaction, he states, “The three rules of the tipping point—the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor, and the Power of Context—offer a way of making sense of an epidemic. They provide us with direction for how to go about reaching a tipping point.” Gladwell’s examples and messages throughout...

The Event That That Marked a Turning Point in Your Life

...moment in my life that was a turning point. Actually, in my opinion, in every situation we have to draw conclusions and make useful lessons. I have met a lot of people and they are all different, as well as their way of life and their outlook on life. Some of them learn from their mistakes and constantly use their own life experience, while others fall under the influence from the external side. This can be our parents, or mass opinion, which we all are constantly pressed by TV screens, magazines, newspapers, internet.I think that most people try to live in accordance to a well-defined pattern that is fixed by the mass-media. For instance, we have to be good at school, than we should enroll in a prestigious university, get a well-paid job. But despite these seemingly positive directions, there is a number of negatives. All of them can be seen in films. We can notice as young people smoke, drink alcohol, and spend most of their free time partying, as they are too concerned about their appearance, even loose their virginity being very young, then marry but all this just seems to be OK. In real life “Happy ends" do not occur as often as on the TV-screen.I personally, believe that in every human’s life there are turning points, that change their outlook, change attitudes, interests, attitudes towards life and other people, when pink glasses are broken into small fragments. In such situations smart people make conclusions. As one of the turning points in my life I can admit summer 2007...

...1. What are the three dimensions to business problems? Provide examples of each. The first dimension in the reading is organizational dimensions. These can be described as outdated business processes, political conflict, lack of resources, difficulty of task, unsupportive culture and attitudes, and unstable business environment. Second dimension is technology dimension. Outdated hardware and software, lack of database space, inadequate telecommunications capacity, incompatibility of old systems with new technology, and the rapid technological change are some of the descriptions to look at for this dimension. The final dimension of the three is the people dimension. The problems in this area that are described are lack of training, difficulties of evaluating performance, compliance, work environment, lack of overall company support, indecisive and poor management. In order to have a successful business, I believe that finding solutions to these problems will improve the practice is important. What I have seen in the company I work for now is not everyone is vested in the tasks at hand so the attitudes of some people are poor.
