Have you ever been brave enough to save a friend of yours, a family member, or even someone who you just met? Would you save children in a burning church, and risk your life for others? A heroic person is someone who puts other people in front of themselves, and sacrifices many things for the lives of others. In the book “The Outsiders,” by S.E. Hinton, there were many heroes that fit this definition. Ponyboy, an orphan, who is part of a gang, is the type of hero who helps other people without asking for a prize. Ponyboy saved the children in the burning church. Johnny, also part of the same gang as Ponyboy, is someone who puts other people in front of himself. Heroes can be anyone, people all around the world have been heroes to their families to their country, and even to their friends. Ponyboy and Johnny both sacrificed their lives to help save the children in the church. Johnny saved Ponyboy from the burning flames, by pushing him out of the window. Darry sacrificed his education for his family to have a normal life. Jonny, Ponyboy, and Darry are a couple of examples of people who do not help others for fame, but for the love of their family and others.

Personal Narrative: The Death Of Johnny And Dally

...things on my mind:Paul Newman and a ride home. My brain fluids were interrupted my Darry’s screaming. Are you working on your paper Ponyboy? Yes sir I yelled back. I had lost my train of thought, until I thought about me failing then my thoughts came back, fast. I kept working for a few hours, my hand was cramping up so I decided to take a break and a nap. I had a nightmare, Johnny was still alive. He had gotten into an argument with Dally about how he should have killed Bob instead of just a little stab. For some reason Johnny had gotten really mad for no reason. He told him to follow him outside. They got up and went outside, I peeked out my window to see what was going on. Johnny whipped out a heater and pointed it at Dally. I tried to scream at him to stop but my mouth was glued close, I couldn’t open my mouth. I tried breaking...

...hear your points anyway. But an encouraged one will. Trust me on this. — Julie Gray PRINTER FRIENDLY PAGE  Literary analysis looks critically at a work of fiction in order to understand how the parts contribute to the whole. When analyzing a novel or short story, you’ll need to consider elements such as the context, setting, characters, plot, literary devices, and themes. Remember that a literary analysis isn’t merely a summary or review, but rather an interpretation of the work and an argument about it based on the text. Depending on your assignment, you might argue about the work’s meaning or why it causes certain reader reactions. This handout will help you analyze a short story or novel—use it to form a thesis, or argument, for your essay. Summary Begin by summarizing the basic plot: “Matilda by Roald Dahl is about a gifted little girl in small town America who learns to make things move with her mind and saves her teacher and school from the evil principal.” This will help ground you in the story. (When you write your paper, you probably won’t include a summary because your readers will already be familiar with the work. But if they aren’t, use a brief summary to orient them.) Context Research the author’s background and other work. This can give insight into the author’s perspective and bias, as well as tell the reader what he might be commenting on. For example, Tolkien’s The Lord of the Ringsis about a group of friends who embark on an epic journey and fight a...
