I believe the transition team for Portsmouth Regional Medical Center will need to be have a collaborative approach to addressing both current issues as well as future ones. It is a management style that works best for long-term goals with open exchange of information and desire to work for a solution suitable to all parties (Borkowski, 2009, pp. 268-269). While this may extend the time necessary to set the goals, it will be well worth it as the new hospital grows and becomes more successful financially. The transitional team members should be respectful of all of their colleagues, regardless if they are a superior or a subordinate. Respect towards one another will go a long way toward making individuals listen to one another’s ideas and avoid stalemates. As the main goal of medicine is the treatment of patients, the hospital should strive to be patient-centric in all of its goals. It is vital that the transition team make this known to other stakeholders as without patients to serve, there would be no hospital. Staff must be courteous and help to all patients despite potential differences in race, age, gender, etc. Patients will reward the hospital spreading good word about the organization to friends and family, thereby increasing the potential patient pool available as others decide to seek Portsmouth for treatment (Buchbinder & Shanks, 2012, pp. 406-410).

Issues in Cities Are the Same Across the World

...this vast increase in population, the city is unable to support its entire population, leading to the development of favelas. Favelas, known as slums in other parts of the world, are generally in very poor condition, with no water supply, plumbing or electricity. Spread of disease is common and often unavoidable, with poor sanitation putting the areas at risk to infestations from rats, for example. Overpopulation affects developed countries, as well as those which are developing. Portsmouth, a city in the UK, is a prime example of this. Portsmouth has the highest population density of any city in Europe, estimated at 5100 people per square mile. This presents a number of problems for the city. Lack of space is a major one, and with minimal space available for construction of properties, the cost of housing is on the increase. This poses problems for low income families, who will struggle to afford to live close to the CBD. Congestion is another problem which has stemmed from overpopulation Portsmouth is a middle upper income area, and as a result the majority of...

Organization of Police Department and Collaboration Activity

...Collaboration Activity One of the main differences I spotted right off was the size between the two. Portsmouth Police Department has several Division of Labor. This is probably so due to Portsmouth Police Department probably serves several thousand people, having a lot officer and or have several precincts geographically placed throughout the city or county. Portsmouth Police Department Organizational chart clearly shows that from the three main bureaus. Under Operation Bureau, They are two divisions and a crime analysis unit. With the Goldsboro Police Department, They have one main Precinct which serves as the administrative headquarters for the entire Department. Goldsboro Police Department doesn’t have division, I guess because of their size. Goldsboro police Department operates from Police Operations and Police Services, with maybe 70 to 100 Police Officers. The second main difference I notice is within the Portsmouth Police Department. This department uses a span of control that couldn’t be typical of the natural average for a Police Department. This Department has several Divisions, Units, and services. The chain of command has to work perfectly in a unit this size. First this Department has to have a organizational chart, This will show supervisors to whom they are accountable for and whom they are accounted for. To give an example, a Sergeant at the Portsmouth Police Department has to have at a minimum 10 subordinates, which depends on what unit or Division he...

Joh John Paul Jones: American Naval Hero

...July 13, Portsmouth marks the birth of American Naval hero John Paul Jones. Though Jones did reside in the city for two years while the warship America was being outfitted, it is merely a place where he rested. It is a bit of an exaggeration to call the city his home. However, the naval accomplishments that were made by Jones are something that Portsmouth should be honored to have been part of. A local historian in the Portsmouth Herald article reporting on the celebration was quoted with describing Jones as a murderer, pirate, slave trader, and rapist. The writer went on to say in an almost cynical tone that Jones “fled” to France, where he died, only to be resurrected as some sort of political crutch by Teddy Roosevelt to back America’s “great white fleet.” This primitive narrative does not do justice to a man of Jones stature, who lived in a bitter time....
