Effects of Facebook:
The beginning of a more open and connected world
As technology has advanced, the social network has enabled people to communicate each other easily. As Villier states, “[n]ow with all the different ways of communicating through social media, spreading ideas has become much easier.”Some people claim that such development of openness interrupts individual’s expectation of privacy. Others also state that commonly used social media, such as Facebook, makes people to spend much time and to be addicted. However, it is true that Facebook has become the most mutual source to build social life these days. Therefore, Facebook is a useful program to build social network effectively in that it connects people from different communities and allows people to improve social problems and business by creating public pages.
First of all, Facebook connects people easily, no matter where people live. With search engine provided by Facebook, people can look for their friends or distant family members. By adding friends, people can stay connected with others; as their every post shows up on Home page. Not only does Facebook allow people to view other individuals’ activities and their lives, it also allows people to post themselves visible to others. Zachery writes that “[r]ather than trying to contact a lot of people individually, you can reach them with one post.” Also, Villier mentions in her article that within comments and feedback from people on their post, people tend to learn better ways to modify themselves or their ideas (PSA Journal, p. 15). For example, if a person wants to announce that his leg is broken, he can post a picture of his broken leg on Facebook. After few minutes of posting his picture, he is most likely to read comments and how many likes are on the post. Also, seeing

Does Facebook Have Generally Positive Psychological Effects?

...Does Facebook Have Generally Positive Psychological Effects? Does Facebook Have Generally Positive Psychological Effects? Valerie Helfman PS101 Introduction to Psychology Does Facebook have a generally positive psychological effect? Yes, Studies have shown that humans are social creatures and we like to make new connections and to communicate our opinions and to listen to others, and through regular Facebook status updates that pop up in our friends news feeds or vice a versa we are able to do this. Facebook use has become a part of millions of people’s daily routine, whether it is to update a status, reply to a message or even to read the News. Facebook has provided both positive and negative psychological effects. Negatively, Facebook has provided a site which can be used for cyberbullying along with an extreme influence on education. And because people may only post positive status, people tend to get the impression that all is well in their lives and they have no problems. And this could lead to feeling that their lives are boring and sad as and recent studies indicated as to how children and teenagers feel because of this. Facebook is also a distracting site that can make you lose track of time and distract the mind from more important matters. . . Facebook has generally provided positive psychological effects on the multiple sections of society. Positively, Facebook has revolutionized the...

It will cover the risk of each firm also the positive or negative public relations effect on each opportunity chosen. For this assignment I choose the 3 main social networking sites available today; Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn. Facebook - Facebook is a social networking site that was first launched in 2004. (Eldon, 2008) Facebook is definitely the number one site throughout the globe when it comes to social networking. Through the years Facebook has had some tough competition and has seen many ups and down’s from various lawsuits, but it is still arguably the most popular social networking site used today. (Facebook, 2012) Marketing Opportunity - This site would be an exceptional marketing opportunity to market clothing to college students across the globe or around the world. This would be achievable because of the popularity of Facebook. Facebook

.... Facebook is a very popular social networking site with over eight hundred million users. As an avid user of Facebook myself, I find it hard to believe that at one point it didn't exist. In fact, it has become so much a part of people's lives that you can learn their life story just by checking their page. Their friends, likes and dislikes, relationship status, phone number, address, everything. Sounds a little dangerous. There are positive and negative effects that Facebook has on people, and they can be quite significant. The Positive Effects Keeping in touch with family and friends- Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with your family and friends that live far away. With instant messaging and even video chat, Facebook is the perfect environment to stay connected. With the status updates, photos, and profile information, it can keep you up to date on the happenings of all of your close ones. Making new friends- Facebook makes meeting new people extremely easy due to the fact that it allows you to add up to thousands of friends, and acts as a social melting pot of the internet. If you comment on a friends status, and one of their friends comments on it, maybe you two will strike up your own conversation. This can lead to a great friendship down the road. Most people find it a lot easier to start a conversation with someone over Facebook than in real life, so a lot of high-school relationships tend to start there. It's as simple as a "You should text me some time." ...

Psychological Effects of Facebook

...Proposal The topic that we have chosen to research will be considering the psychological effects that Facebook has on the male population here at the University of Kentucky. The population being focused on will be a mix of students from the freshman and sophomore classes. To be a little more specific, the main research question we want to answer is, “Does Facebook have a positive or negative effect on the male population?” Basically, we will discover if using Facebook causes men to see themselves in a more positive way or causes men to see themselves in a more negative way. The reason for choosing to focus only on the male population is because the vast majority of articles and research we have found online involves studying the psychological effects Facebook has on people, namely concentrating on the female population. This presents us with the chance to broaden the scope of information available on the subject at hand. Focusing on just one of the two populations also allows us to narrow the topic down to one group, which in return gives us the opportunity to give a more detailed response to the question. By delving deeper into the subject, we will be able to better understand the effects on men rather than just scratching the surface by having research that is too broad. As our world shifts more toward the digital and electronic age, we must be certain of what psychological effects can occur through the use of electronics and the Internet. Primary concerns are changes...

According to data gathered from several sources byOnlineEducation.net, Facebook and Twitter are used to great benefit— sometimes. Students welcome online engagement and resources; around 75% of student respondents said they’d like to do some online collaboration for class, in fact. Also, social media may have a positive impact on students’ sense of themselves in the community. Social media-using students were twice as likely as other students to feel well-liked by their peers and to participate in extracurricular activities. And 20% more of Facebook-using students (as compared to students who didn’t use Facebook) said they felt connected to their school and community. However, negative effects abound. Students who use Facebook and hit the books simultaneously found their multitasking led to 20% lower grades than those of their more focused peers. Facebook-using students also made less money during school from part-time work, putting in around five hours per week as opposed to 16 hours per week for a typical, unplugged counterpart. Not only do grades and finances suffer, but students might actually end up feeling more depressed or lonely. Almost half of students believe...
