Possible ways to enhance employee involvement and why they would be effective Positive Reinforcement is a powerful motivational tool that increases the likelihood of good performance. Take time each day to determine if anyone exerted extra effort deserving of recognition. If so, select an appropriate reinforcer, set a time and deliver it! Ask About Questions, Problems and Concerns is a means of gathering important information to head off problem situations. Set aside some concentrated time to speak (could be brief) with each employee to find out what roadblocks they face. Keep track of what they say and do what can be done to respond in helpful ways. This will forestall crisis management and demonstrate management support. Ask for Input Prior to Decision Making from people impacted by decisions. Obtaining input does not mean managers give up their authority to make decisions; it enables better decisions based on more complete information. Provide Information and Feedback in a Timely Manner makes for a more informed, loyal, and more involved workforce and builds a healthy sense of teamwork. Use of up-dated bulletin boards, timely memos, regular up-date meetings and face-to-face respectful meetings with individuals needing appropriate performance feedback intended to improve behavior.
Don't Over or Under Manage Over Managing is a failure to give people adequate freedom to do their job. It is a waste of time to check up on or actually carry out the work of others, preventing their development and growth. Under Managing is about a failure to give people the accurate, complete, useful information and support. Take time to train and prove people with clear expectations and get out of the way.
Treat People Fairly and with Respect Be sensitive to others and always be aware that when managers/supervisors/leaders speak their words are given more weight than the

Leibniz

...Leibniz, like many thinkers of his time, was a theist - in other words he believed in God. He thought that the universe was composed of substances, chosen and maintained by God. He declared in his Theodicy that God created the world to be the best of all possible worlds, since God, as a benevolent deity, would not have created anything different. This is a difficult assumption for the modern reader to digest, as we are surrounded by examples of evil every day in the news. Leibniz proves the existence of God by a priori and a posteriori arguments. Leibniz declares that there are two kinds of truth: truths of reason, and truths of fact. Truths of reason are a priori, while truths of fact are a posteriori. Truths of reason are necessary, permanent truths, and proceeding from a known or assumed cause to a necessarily related effect (deductive). Truths of fact are contingent, empirical truths relating to or derived by reasoning from observed facts (inductive) (Davidson, 91). Both kinds of truth must have a sufficient reason. Truths of reason have their sufficient reason in being opposed to the contradictoriness and logical inconsistency of propositions which deny them (Davidson, 93). Truths of fact have their sufficient reason in being more perfect than propositions which deny them. The Priori on pre-established harmony in so far as such harmony demands an author, and this is God. The posteriori explains everything that exists must have sufficient reason for existing, and this reason...

Data Breaches

...we are learning in school to actual life and real life situations. The article that I choose for this week is from Security Info Watch and it discusses the future of data breaches this year and things that we could encounter over the time frame of this year and next decade as technology continues to grow at the rate it is growing. It compare the big breach with Target and aligns it to other situations that are possibilities with the way we use our technology. One of the big theories that the article through out was that we are going to run into issues with all of this cloud computing and big data and that society is very vulnerable to a big data cloud breach. Apple has started the whole ball rolling with cloud computing storing all of your data on a cloud platform easily accessible by all of your devices. The only problem is that it too is easily accessible to other things such as malicious people. Another possible breach that the article discusses is that healthcare is slowly being stored via a cloud platform as well and there are potential ways that a breach of that information could be a reality soon and one day. Results...

Technology

...hard math problems and not the simple ones. Now a day, kids can’t even do simple math problems in their head. Then there is spell check on computers. Most teachers want everything typed now, therefore students can’t really learn if spell check gives them the answer. Kids won’t be able to develop with a lot of knowledge if they always depend on technology to do the thinking for them. The United States has become lazier and lazier as we find easier ways to solve our everyday problems. Studies have shown that television and video games are main reasons for obesity. Teenagers can’t seem to go anywhere without their cell phones in their hands either. No one really goes outside anymore because of the entertainment inside. It’s good that we have these advantages but we can’t take advantage of them. We got so used to the pampered life that technology gives us that we can’t simply get back to the “simple life”. One of the biggest sources of technology in the world is computers which brings along the internet. It provides a fast and easy way to get things done. Social networking sites allow people to meet. However, it’s better to start a friendship in person. Also, there are...

Attitude

...lookout for new ways to add value to the customer It requires people who are committed to taking personal responsibility for offering good service. Positive attitude is of great value and importance in all walks of life, especially in the work place. Having a good, positive attitude, along with positive thinking, at work will reflect on what you do and make you a more productive employee. This can determine how well you get your projects done and also how others perceive you. If you display a good attitude, you may increase your chances for a promotion or a raise if you are a positive role model for others within your department at work. The important question is what is attitude? Attitude is everything, even the worst situation can be tackled with one’s positive attitude. The environment around has a part to play but in the end its only we who decide to take or leave the opportunity. Success or failure of a business is determined more by attitude than by aptitude. It's not very easy to maintain positive attitude every time but it is essential to keep ourselves on track so that we get the best results from everything we do, every decision we make. A simple way to understand the effect of attitude is to know the difference between “optimistic and pessimistic” (Dolores p1). An optimist is hopeful about the future or the success of something in particular but on the other hand, someone who is pessimistic thinks that bad things are going to happen. Attitude is the way that we behave...

On Track

...How to get back on track You don’t know this about me but I was 14 years old and won 2nd place in the regional Chess competition along with 3rd place in the state and 8th place in nationals (that’s 8th in 100 competitors). What I learned (beside that I am awesome) was that everything in life if a chess game and should be treated as such. Along the way I learned project managing and learned that everything in life requires management and a manager for it. So combining those concepts you get that everything in life needs to be managed with grace, foresight, risk and timing. Below is what my Thesis was for my BS called “Playing the Game Called Management” Got an “A” by the way and inducted into the tech honors society. But that’s another story. The Question There are things we need to establish to try to fix things. One was recognizing the causes of which we already mentioned in the email. In chess that’s viewing the board and the player the environment all causes to the end games all potentially harmful and none of it on your side. This is handled in PM by openly set the goals and make sure that they are understood. In chess that is to yourself in PM that is to the group. This would not be to re-write the project by this date. That’s not a goal, that’s a want/need. It means to lay out what are the real goals for each party (to look good, make money, do the job and go home, do a good job, learn etc.). This is kind of dirty but so is detoxing after a bad drug habit...

Eating Sugar

...insecure are in many ways one of the biggest fear factors to human beings. It is the fear of not knowing what’s next and how to handle it. The fear of not knowing how to react and the fear of not knowing how to protect yourself and your nearest in a threatening situation. In the short story Eating Sugar, facing your fears is the theme. In addition the story also deals with the differences between how the young and the old handle unknown places and situations. The story takes place in a forest in Thailand. A place that for the daughter Suzanne is perceived as an experience, but for the parents Eileen and Alex, is an unknown and insecure place to be. Eileen indirectly expresses (p.9, l. 79): “Anything could happen” which proves the fact that she is afraid and that fear comes with the old age and with the responsibility of having a daughter you think you still need to take care of. Eileen and Alex acts reserved against the situation of being in the forest without knowing how to get home and they only imagine all the things that could go wrong. Whereas Suzanne takes it all more calm, lives in the present and doesn’t think about what might go wrong. In that way it illustrates how the role as the family protector has actually been reversed by the way the parents have been brought on insecure ground and depends on the daughters acts and knowledge of Thailand. The father, Alex, doesn’t express his fear of the unknown situation, at least not in the same apparent way as the mother, Eileen...

Business Apple

...so much more complex than it was 15 years ago when Steve Jobs came back to the company that he had co-founded. Should it change? Sure. They will have to adapt to a new reality of being big, of having more scrutiny. For example, their secrecy will become more and more difficult over time, and I suspect they will try an intelligent approach to adapting to that difficulty rather than just trying to hold things off as long as possible. Knowledge@Wharton: We'll come back in a bit to the issue of secrecy about which I have a few questions. But for now, why don't we talk about Tim Cook and his leadership style? Do you have a sense of how Cook is putting his stamp on Apple and how he should, in some ways, think differently by not emulating Jobs in everything he does? Lashinsky: One thing that Cook has going for him is that he is not Steve Jobs, and my impression of the man is that he is not confused at all about this. He is extremely different from Jobs in almost every way. He is not an emotional person. He doesn't have a creative or artistic background the way Jobs did. He's passionate about Apple, he's passionate about business, he's passionate about operational excellence. I think eventually he will put his stamp on Apple, in that it will be more professional,...

Strengths and Challenges Reflection

... Strengths and Challenges Reflection GS1145 My name is Chris Woodward. I started this program not just to make more money, but to better my skills. I can make something more of myself. I’d also like to say, that I have a lot to learn when it comes to going back to school. I believe the challenges I face will make it very difficult for me. I haven’t been to school for over 12 years now. Not only am I in school, but I am juggling family life and work as well. This is definitely a learning curve for me. When I take the time to assess my goals in life, I begin to understand what’s most important to me, and that is my family. When I factor in my family, it allows me to step up and guide myself in such a way that I begin to realize what it would be like if I didn’t succeed. School is all new to me, but at the same time it is also very beneficial. Without it I would stand still. I’d wonder where I would be if I didn’t make that first step. Now I can safely say I’m definitely on the right path. For many years I have worked in customer service, so I have learned a few things that I can bring to class. Each time I’ve attended this class I thought I knew it all, but now I realize there’s more to be taught. We all have different ideas. I feel that we each possess a certain skill that will benefit each and every one. I don’t really possess much of an academic history, except for what I’ve learned while being in the military. When I joined...

...life. I was an unmarried mother to three children with a fourth child on the way. The father of the first three was no help whatsoever – no child support, lived 2 ½ hours away and the father of this soon to be child turned out to be a total disappointment and we were, unfortunately, on our way to ending the relationship. My job at the time was Administrative Assistant at a hotel close to the airport – a job that put food on the table and paid the rent, but by no means was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Aside from having my beautiful children, I felt like a complete failure. And then one day, a phone call came that completely changed my life… I was sitting at my desk and saw that I had a voicemail from an unfamiliar number. As I listened to the message from Ms. Kenyatta Joseph, Health Science Career Advisor at Valencia College, my heart began to beat faster. She stated that there was an opening in the Spring 2013 Nursing program and that I was next on the waiting list. I could hardly believe it; in fact, I could hardly even remember that I had applied for this program seemingly forever ago! I called Ms. Joseph back immediately… “Yes, I accept! I’ll take the spot!” “Ok great, well orientation is on Friday (it was Wednesday), I know it’s short notice but will you be able to attend?” “Yes, of course, I will absolutely make it work…when do classes actually start, by the way?” “Classes begin in January…” I looked down at my growing belly and said to...

...what causes the conflict there are a few different ways they can end. They can either end positively with both parties happy, neutral where they will get over it, or negatively where either one or all of the people involved are upset. There are many potential harms when it comes to conflicts. One thing that comes to mind right off the top of the head when you hear about a conflict, is the possibility of a fight where somebody could be injured. Whether that fight is physical or psychological is another aspect of the conflict. People involved could be physically beaten down or they could be emotionally damaged for an extended period by what somebody does or says in any type of conflict. Another possible harm is that a conflict could ruin a friendship or a relationship that has been going on for many years. There are also many potential benefits when it comes to conflicts. If the conflict remains controlled, and nobody lets it get too far out of hand, it can make relationships not only work out, but at the same time it could possibly make them stronger. The word conflict can mean a lot of different things it can be something big, or it can be something small, but the people decide on how big it is going to be by the way they react. If the people involved don't overreact with the situation, then the conflict can be resolved and both parties can be happy and move past it like nothing happened. When there is a conflict, the way it is handled has a big effect on whether the outcome...

...various ways on how to decorate a room, for oneself, and for others too, often on a daily basis. Piven organizes his essay by sub-titles, each one concerning a specific way to decorate, and each sub-title is accompanied by directions to serve as an example for that particular decorations. Piven concludes that the three ways you can decorate your room/space is by using objects that you already have. Piven uses directions to lay out how to accomplish some simple decorating tasks. With the milk crate chair he describes in simple instructions that a milk crate needs to be flipped over and placing a single layer of sponges on top of the crate and then placing a mat or sheet on top and securing it down to make a chair to use, but I think the milk crate can be made into a bookcase or anything else that anyone can set their minds to. The t-shirt curtains is a fun and creative idea to turn your old t-shirts into a curtain to cover up a window inside your bedroom or dorm room. The instructions on how to make the curtain is simple, Piven describes these instructions by saying, “take some old t-shirts and cut the design off of the shirts and sow them together and then attach a rod onto the curtain and hang the curtain up” (Piven). I also like how the writers put in extra instructions with the curtain idea so if you didn’t want to cut up the t-shirts you could place the rod through the shirt’s sleeves and hang the curtains up that way. The cd case frame instructions was a creative way to show...
