THE UNITED STATES
The U.S. had emerged as the world's wealthiest and most powerful country- untouched from the horrific destruction of World War 2. The dollar was the strongest currency and foreigners flocked to invest in American companies and to buy U.S. government bonds. They played a leading economic role, as other nations needed American goods and services; transforming life in the United States itself. Many Americans prospered in the world's wealthiest economy, although some segments of the population were left to struggle. As Americans became more affluent, many moved from the cities to the suburbs and also to the states in the Southern and Southwestern parts of the country- where jobs were becoming more plentiful than in the industrialized Northern states. The vast popularity of American culture abroad confirmed the global influence of the U.S., as the world embraced their various art forms. Elvis Presley, musical comedies, Hollywood romances, and action movies were recognized worldwide. The federal government also contributed to this boom, as the congress created programs that helped the veterans, the elderly, and the poor; as well as approving government funding to build a major interstate highway system.
After World War 2, conflicting ideologies and mutual distrust caused divisions between the former Allies, leading to the conflict known as the Cold War- a state of tension and hostility between nations aligned with the United States on one side and the Soviet Union on the other, without armed conflict between the major rivals. The Soviet Union side wanted to spread communism and the United States wanted free elections in Eastern Europe- which they had agreed upon in their peace agreements- but Stalin (the Soviet dictator) ignored that pledge. This prompted U.S. president Truman to take action. In 1947 he outlined a new policy to congress (known as the

Post Ww2 Aircraft Manufacturing Problems

...Aviation Manufacturing Challenges Post World War II Jason Weber Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Aviation Manufacturing Challenges Post World War II I. Summary The American aviation industry was in an uncertain era post World War II (WW2). Aircraft manufacturers were suffering large loses as the demand for planes dropped sharply and the market was flooded. This created more supply than demand. Manufactures expected government sales to decline and braced for it. They hinged their hopes on the need for commercial aviation transportation which never came to fruition (Bright, 1978). The resurgence for the industry came in the form of the jet engine. The Navy, being conservative and resistant to change, did not see the need for the jet engine. Unlike the Air Force, the Navy had not encountered jet engine aircraft in combat yet. The Air Force in pursuit of superior air power and national security, was the greatest catalysts in aircraft advancements post WW2 (Converse, 2012). As advancements in the jet engine evolved, aircraft were flying faster and further. The need for stronger structural parts meant the need for new manufacturing techniques (Bright, 1978). II. Problem The problem is that airframe manufacturing was lagging behind the needs set forth by the evolving jet engine. The industry used hand crafting techniques that according to Bright (1978), “In the all-metal piston-engine era, the aircraft industry called itself the "tin benders" (Production: The Payoff...

...World War II was the largest armed conflict in history and resulted in over 50 million civilian lives lost. This war ranged to six continents around the world and created significant amounts of tension between world powers. This period changed the ways that society would be run forever by inspiring people to create new innovations, spread ideas, and work to create a more peaceful world. This world war allowed the League of Nations to successfully establish the United Nations and led to new principles that defined the causes of war. After World War I, President Woodrow Wilson worked to establish the League of Nations, which was an international peacekeeping organization that was formed with the goal of resolving conflicts around the globe. However, this organization was unable to prevent the outbreak of World War II, and instead, was strengthened because of it. President Franklin D. Roosevelt began to frequently use the term “United Nations,” which became a new international organization that was incredibly similar to the ideas of the League of Nations. The structure of this new group was inspired by those created specifically for the League of Nations, however, due to its failure, they adopted some of these beliefs and used them as a way to make this organization even stronger. Today, the UN constitutes a world center for diplomatic conferences for world powers to meet and discuss economic and political fields to reduce conflicts that may lead to another war. The UN currently...

Russian Expansion Post Ww2

...The Soviet Union’s expansion into Western Europe began with one man’s greed, and then followed by another’s need for retribution. During WWII, Adolf Hitler had brokered a policy with the Soviet Union, the German-Soviet Pact, with promises not to attack one another and to supply one another with manufactured goods from Germany, and raw materials from the Soviets. As we, all know from High School History class, this was only a temporary way to keep the Soviets from countering Hitler’s defeat of Poland. The National Socialist and Adolf Hitler considered the mass Russian lands to be a prime location for a future long-term settlement, and their politics to be an expansion of the Jewish community. Since the German assault on the world began, they always viewed the USSR to be an enemy with intentions to deliver the same fate to the Soviet Jews as he did in the European countries. In June 1941, Germany launched its first invasion against the Soviets, with complete disregard of the nonaggression pact. Three German army groups overwhelmed the unsuspecting Soviets and easily advanced deep into the Russian territory, with troops following with mass murder operations, and eventually stopping in September 1941, at the gates of Leningrad. The German forces occupied a large portion of Western USSR for nearly two years. However, in the winter of 1943, the German army suffered a massive defeat, with nearly 100K soldiers surrendering, at Stalingrad to the Soviet military. The USSR forces went...

...posting. As mentioned in the syllabus, I recommend you post your comments early on and not wait until the last minute, i.e. 11:58PM. Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8, you should also visit the discussion forum more than indicated on our weekly schedule. Imagine being in a “real” class where you might want to engage in class discussions. When you “engage,” you’ll respond to comments made by other students, which will create lively discussions. So, in other words, students in discussion forums earn top grades if they participate (i.e. post more than one thoughtful and interesting post) as this active participation is critical for your learning experience in an online format. One thing about the online format is that you cannot “hide.” You will get no credit if you don’t “say” something (so, in that way, an online class might be more difficult). As your instructor, I will facilitate our discussions and might comment on this or that post and share ideas but I will not address each and every post. I will check and read your discussions on a regular bases. Please read below some of the guidelines for successful participation and its subsequent Discussion Participation Rubric (from ww2.nau.edu/d-elearn/support/tutorials/discrubrics/disc1.php which I found very useful. I have copied this below and made some changes): * Submit initial post(s) early in the session, and subsequent responses to the posts of other learners at timely intervals throughout the duration...

...coworkers. The bullying eventually got back to us via people who grew tired of the bully’s childish ways. The threats were real and unnecessary since my friend happens to be a disabled girl with Cerebral Palsy. She is able to work full time and can think just like everyone else but she has trouble using her left side and her speech is slurred a bit. The main concern for me was her physical appearance; she is only about 90 pounds. I see her as my little sister so I keep an eye on her and even buy her food when she can’t afford it. Obviously I am very protective of her. I see her as being a person I have certain amount of loyalty for. Because of that fact I became very defensive when I saw all of the posts that the bully at work was posting about her. I took the liberty upon myself to speak and post on Facebook in her defense. Ethics & Credibility in Business Communication

...Ethics of Facebook Study Questioned COM/295 July 16, 2015 Ethics of Facebook Study Questioned I have chosen a recent newsworthy that talks about a study being questioned on ethics of Facebook in San Francisco. The company conducted an experiment using users’ posts in a manipulated way. They gathered news feed posts from users and reposted them as a positive post to one group and a negative post to another group. The purpose of doing that was to see how it affect others responses. The company posted a blog stating how sorry they were on how the paper was described and may have caused any anxiety to others. According to Abc7 News (2015), "I don't think there's any way to overstate this -- you just simply do not play with people's emotions without asking their permission first," said consumer psychologist Kit Yarrow (6). I believe there should have been a better way of doing this research for the sake of all people and their feelings. Facebook’s ethical obligation in their communications to the general public is to be truthful, respect privacy, deception and the right to be informed. Facebook gives individuals the power to share as part of their mission to make connections with others. However, Facebook has not yet responded to the general public nor the researchers due to allegations being made. There is a policy that states how information is collected and how it is used and shared. Due to the way ethics of Facebook...

...picture of the character of a person * "friending" students * making any comment online (even if you think your profile is "private") related to work or students * posting unprofessional pictures (real or perceived drunkenness, being scantily clad, illegal activities, etc.) * posting profane or lude comments - both are unprofessional but also reveal a limited vocabulary, which is particularly negative for an "educator" What can you do to protect yourself? Here are a few things: * If you must be "over the top" with your profile, have an alias * Keep everything set to private - seriously, young adults don't do this - but assume everything you post is public * Get a professional (5-10 years older than you) to look at your Twitter, Facebook, etc. and tell you if any of your pictures or posts are questionable * Have profiles with different audiences in mind - such as Linkdin; use an alias for different Twitter feeds * Don't be "friends" with your boss unless you two are truly friends outside of work * Never "friend" students or their parents * Form "groups" within Facebook so you can harness it's power but not be friends with students * Do occasional online audits to see what others can find out about you * Never comment on a student or on your work http://teaching.monster.com/benefits/articles/8068--10-things-a-teacher-should-never-do http://career-advice.monster.com/job-search/career-assessment/11-ways-to-hurt-your-career/article...

Instagram is an application that allows people to create a profile where they can share images and videos online, to anyone in the world. This multimedia-sharing app is used widely for businesses such as retailers and restaurants, and it is becoming more vital for a business to use Instagram for advertising and promoting themselves. From September 2015, Instagram currently has over 400 million users, and 80 million posts on average are made every day. One of the main and most important features of Instagram is the hashtag. When someone makes a post on Instagram they can use hashtags to dramatically increase how many people are viewing their post, which will lead to masses of people liking photos and then letting their friends (or followers) see as well. Businesses can use hashtags to promote their products/services through simple keywords, and at the same time potential customers can search for exactly what they want within any market. Hashtags can also be used by a business as a method of market research as they can easily see what competitors in the same market are offering, and can work out what they have to do to make their products/services better, so that they can appeal to customers even further. “Hello Cupcakes” is a small Indonesian company that uses Instagram...
