Leadership and Power Paper
We have described power as the capacity to cause change and influence as the degree of actual change in a targets behavior. Ho Ching’s power as a leader has been recognized by many but would you describe Ho Ching as an influential leader? Ho Ching is a very aggressive leader who takes risk. She pushed forward on the deal with India and overcame different obstacles that were presented thought the years and now because of that her corporation is now starting to see a positive outcome of the India expansion.

Based on the excerpt from Ho Ching’s speech, what type of tactics does she use to influence the behavior of others? Ho Ching uses tactics of sympathy and hope by saying that the country was down and going through rough times and now change is occurring in a positive way that looks to be best for the country’s economic growth. Ho Ching most powerful point of persuasion is when she says “Now it’s India’s turn to stir”
Ho Ching has been named one of the most powerful leaders in Asia what are her major sources of power? Ho Chings major sources of power come from her power of persuasion, her marriage to the prime minister, and her accomplishments as CEO of Temasek. Ho Ching uses all of this a source of power to help influence the public and potential clients.
How would you characterize Ho Ching’s motives? I would characterize Ho Chings motives as bold and aggressive. Ho Ching uses her power to create business with India and increase the profits by 50% in her company, her aggressiveness can be seen with her persistence to continue with the expansion even though she had to face economical adversities within her own country.
What role, if any, do managerial differences based on gender play here? I would say that there is a slight gender based difference here because of her being a woman and married to the prime minister assisted with her source of power.

Bases of Power Paper

...Communication and Bases of Power Student Name BCOM/230 Date: September 9, 2013 Instructor Name Communication and Bases of Power Power influences our behavior and the way we communicate in the workplace. Power is defined as the affected behavior of one person from the influence of another person with higher authority. Depending on how the power is used, it may have a positive or negative effect in an organization. According to Robbins and Judge (2009), there are five bases of power that can influence individuals or groups in the workplace; they are coercive power, reward power, legitimate power, expert power, and referent power (p. 452). Coercive power is a formal kind of power that I believe is the most negative among the other forms of power. The person who uses this kind of power places fears to subordinates; therefore, I believe communication from group members to leaders is limited by electronic means, like email, because members are intimidated by the coercive power of the leader. If the individual does not comply with the company’s policies, norms or does not reach a goal desired by management, then the fear of being fired, demoted, or punished is in place. The person is intimidated by threads from management. I find that threads of been fired due to lack of compliance is a delicate approach to change the behaviors of others. In these cases, members may be displeased of the thread and may start looking for other positions outside of the company; hence the...

5 Forces Analysis

...5 Forces Analysis on the Paper Industry Looking at the position of the paper industry relative to the five forces model I had to determine exactly what constituted the paper industry. I had to decide between the Paper Mills Industry and Pulp Mills Industry and ultimately decided to analyze the Paper Mills Industry specifically when it came to paper industry as a whole. The NAICS Code that corresponds to the Paper Mills Industry is NAICS: 322121 or SIC Code 2621. Porter’s Five Forces Model of Competition includes the firm’s, or in this case the paper mill industry’s, position relative to current competitors, suppliers, customers, potential new entrants and potential substitutes. Over the next few pages I will conduct a five forces analysis of the Paper Mills Industry. Current Competitors: The degree of rivalry in the paper industry is the center of the five forces and the other four forces branch off of this. The first aspect to look at is the number and position of companies within the paper industry. There were 445 companies in 2009 and as of 2013 there are now 119 companies in the industry. This industry still has many competitors within the industry and therefor, there shouldn’t be any impact of any particular company. This industry is large enough where these firms can prosper without having to steal market share from each other and this is a positive for the paper industry. The second key factor is the industry growth rate and if there is room to increase revenues...

Saving Money by Using Power Management

...Saving Money by Using Power Management In the first paragraph of your Case Project, please give the purpose, situation, or outline of the topic you’ve selected. For example, CP 3-2 on page 147 of the text book indicates Gigantic Life Insurance is looking to save some cash, but I’m not going to give you the paragraph for your paper. Just give a basic recap of the paragraph in the book. It may be nearly word-for-word. The second and third paragraphs allow you to describe the proposed solutions, procedures, opinions, thoughts, positions, or whatever is required to satisfy the case objectives. Write this paper in the voice the text requests or just as a written response to me. These papers will not be read to the class, nor will they be harshly graded. The purpose of the Case Projects is to engage critical thinking in the realm of the subject and communication of ideas. This is not a writing course, but written communications is important in the IT world. Your final paragraph should include a recap of the objective and solution. Please remember to keep the audience in mind. If your selected topic is a letter to other IT folks, you may use technical jargon without a ton of explanation. However, if you’re to write a user policy for example, you should tone down the tech talk to end-user level. Remember to include AT LEAST one external source in each of your papers. This source may be anything you’d like as long as it has something, anything...

Books Will Always Exist

...Our homes are full of books of every genre. There are only few people who don't like reading. Accordingly, even the most lazy can't help but keeping on reading if the story is enough engaging. The most of times in our homes we find physical books, rather than digital stories. I think there is a reason for this. What is better than the smell of paper, especially when you buy a new book? It is something inimitable, that never will be replaced. Concerning to this, we cannot not talk about the smell of old books. It reminds you something ancient, of another epoch or of a parallel world. Something beset by an aura of fantastic. On the one hand, I think many people prefer to buy new books, rather than borrow them in library, due to the characteristic smell of brand new printed paper. However, the smell of ancient books cannot be recreated and that’s why, on the other hand, library are so full of requests. There are those who neither care to have their own literary works, nor library books. Actually, they don’t want physical volumes and prefer to have all they would want to read always with them. In other words, they like digital readings. For instance, a tablet make this real. This means you can choose among a great number of possibilities the book you want to read in that particular moment. The advantage consists in the fact that you have not to bring ten different volumes with you, but just one light tablet. Your back will thank you! Likewise, many people prefer digital books...

Environment-How Can You Help to Protect It?

...over to the coming generations the environment as we found it, if not any better. Our planet is changing. There are a lot of things that affect our planet in a bad way but the good news is that everyone can help to reduce them and do their bit for the environment. While exploring six important topics that affect our community : Electricity (Energy), Pollution, Food, Water, Rubbish, Rainforest, I'll present the damage and a list of ways that we can all contribute to help our planet get better. 1. Electricity Energy is everywhere. We use energy to move the mouse for a computer, to jump and shout and walk and run. It takes energy to power a light bulb, and the light that the bulb gives off is also a form of energy. Other forms of energy include heat, chemical energy, gravitational energy and nuclear power. Electricity is a form of energy and this is what powers the TV, the kettle, dishwasher, hairdryer, toaster, remote control, mobile phone, fridge, stereo, electric toothbrush, and more. Our growing need for energy is one of the problems facing the world today, because producing electricity also produces our next topic - pollution. How to help? When you’re using electricity think about where it comes from and how you can use less to take the strain off of the environment- here are some simple ways to make a big difference: • On or Off? Leaving televisions, stereos and computers on standby with the little red light showing still uses up electricity, even though they might look like they're...
