The Expansion of TSA’s “Precheck Program” Aviation is one of the world’s largest industries. Protecting the industry, along with the people in it, seems fairly rational. The only issue with this is finding a way to do so without making citizens feel as though their liberties are being violated. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been working on ways to improve the quality and efficiency of aviation security in the last couple of years. One of the best improvements that they have made is the precheck program. This program allows certain groups of people (such as the military) to bypass current screening procedures meant for the public. The precheck program recently opened up for the public as well. The TSA should continue to expand this program by encouraging citizens to apply for the screening program. This will allow for a more efficient …show more content…
The precheck program became effective in October 2011, and began allowing United States citizens with a Known Traveler Number (KTN) to apply for the program in December 2013. Travelers who choose to apply for the precheck program must complete an application, schedule an appointment at one of the 330 centers in the nation, and pay the nonrefundable-processing fee of $85. The TSA precheck does not require the removal of the traveler’s belt, shoes, light outerwear, laptop, or 3-1-1 compliant bags from their carry-on during the screening process. By encouraging travelers to enroll in this program, the screening process will be quick and painless. The precheck program does not guarantee travelers expedited screening, as they are subject to any random and unpredictable security measures both seen and unseen performed by the TSA at any
