Preparing to Conduct Business Research: Part 2 In Part 1 of preparing to conduct business research this team discussed the dilemma of Pet Palace and its declining customer base. Team “C” recommended gathering information that would benefit the company and conduct semi-structured interviews and surveys with open-ended questions. In part 2 of preparing to conduct business research this team will answer the following questions;
What are the key business objectives?
What are the questions that must be researched?
What are the hypotheses and variables that must be considered?
What ethical considerations must you take into account?
Define the purpose of the research. The objective of Pet Palace is that it would like to add e-commerce options to its already existing brick and mortar stores. The plan is to keep the already large number of customers they have, as well as drawing in new customers. Its expansion strategy includes penetrating new markets, distribution, information systems, and marketing. In the best efforts to collect data, the research team will assess the outcome by creating and using a survey. Surveying the target population will provide insight from the target population’s perspective. The survey will be quick and simple for the participants, yet informative for Pet Palace management. To create an unbiased and purely anonymous survey, the research team will create the survey questions on a website, such as Survey Monkey. This will allow the survey to be sent via e-mail to a variety of participants in the target area. The higher the number of participants that take the survey the more accurate the data will be.
