...What Is Organizational Communication?[edit] L ike defining many aspects of communication study, many of the definitions of organizational communication share common elements. Stanley Deetz (2001) argues that one way to enlighten our understanding of organization communication is to compare different approaches. However, for the purpose of this text, we want to define organizational communication so you have a frame of reference for understand this chapter. Our definition is not definitive, but creates a starting point for understanding this specialization of communication study. We define organizational communication as the sending and receiving of messages among interrelated individuals within a particular environment or setting to achieve individual and common goals. Discovering One’s Talent: Learning from Academic Specialization

...DISCOVERING ONE’S TALENT: LEARNING FROM ACADEMIC SPECIALIZATION author OFER MALAMUD* The author examines an exogenous difference in the timing of academic Abstract specialization within the British system of higher education to test whether education yields information about one’s match quality in different fields of study. In distinguishing between systems requiring early and late specialization, he predicts the likelihood of an individual switching to an occupation unrelated to one’s field of study. If higher education serves mainly to provide specific skills, the model predicts more switching in a system requiring late specialization since the cost of switching is lower in terms of foregone skills. Using the Universities Statistical Record from 1972 to 1993 and the 1980 National Survey of Graduates and Diplomates, he finds that individuals who specialize early, as in the case of England, are more likely to switch to an unrelated occupation, implying that the benefits to increased match quality are sufficiently large to outweigh the greater loss in skills from specializing early. With regard to instruction, economists have made substantial progress in specifying and identifying the economic value of higher education, as it increases the value productivity of human agents as workers . . . the much neglected activity is that of discovering talent. It, too, can be approached by treating it as a process which provides students with opportunities to discover whether they have...

Becoming A Nurse Practitioner Research Paper

...conditions. This means that this type of nurse can work anywhere from a hospital, to a mental health facility, and so much more. There are also Family Nurse Practitioners who provide healthcare throughout a person’s lifetime. They usually develop long-lasting relationships and get to know the patient, along with their family. Family Nurse Practitioners are also very similar to Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, which provide care to children and see them from infancy to adulthood. They provide checkups, immunizations, and diagnose and treat acute to chronic illnesses and conditions. Both of these specializations have similar job descriptions, and could work in doctors offices, pediatric clinics, hospitals, and much more. Both also see the patient throughout their life and provide the same types of care and treatment, making them very similar in their field of practice. With the specializations being similar, it would be possible to specialize in one, but go on to work in the other in the near future if desired. Neonatal Nurse Practitioners are another type of nurse with a vast range of options. These nurses provide care for sick and premature babies. They diagnose illnesses and provide treatments, they also assist in delivering babies, depending on the hospital or other settings. Management Principles

...Management Principles Introduction Management is a vital role of the HR department that ensures that an organization has what it takes to accomplish its goals and objectives. It comprises interrelated social and technical functions and activities that pull people and other resources together in a formal organizational setting in the effort of facilitating the achievement of these goals. Management principles refer to some strategically developed guidelines and set timelines that are used to organize staff, maintain organizational structure, delegate authorities, and establish policies and procedures in the view of implementing the vision of any organization. Henry Fayol, a Frenchman and a coal-mining engineer, developed fourteen management principles that form the basis for today’s effective organizational management. Fayol’s management principles help managers to make crucial decisions towards the accomplishment of individual and organizational objectives. Apparently, management and leadership go hand in hand in the process of running an organization. On the other hand, Stauffacher describes leadership as an interpersonal role of an individual to influence and provide purpose, direction, motivation, and support of other people in the achievement of the mission. Leadership is the most essential element of the management process. However, it is knowledge, skills and experience that culminate into a leader’s effectiveness. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to discuss...
