Princess Diaries - Character

...Princess Amelia "Mia" Mignonetta Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo Her grey eyes are her "only attractive feature", according to her outspoken best friend Lilly Moscovitz. Amelia struggles with her new role in the world as Princess of Genovia (a country loosely based on Andorra). For all of her childhood and a some of her adolescence, she prefers to wear combat boots and overalls (though she wears a uniform to school) instead of the designer wardrobe that is expected for her. She is fluent in English and is learning Spanish and French, though she sometimes humorously mistakes homonymous words for one another. Mia often does inappropriate or mortifying things, particularly when she is in public. She bites her nails, obsesses over her cat "Fat Louie" (whom she admits to loving the most in the world; over her mother, friends and boyfriend), is concerned about her life to an exaggerated degree, and writes in her diary whenever she can. After being formally recognized as a princess, she is assigned her own bodyguard, Lars van der Hooten. Her failure at self-actualization saddens and frustrates her. She was a dedicated vegetarian until book #9 of the series. She lives on takeout from Number One Noodle Son and other local Noho restaurants. [edit] Lilly Moscovitz Lilly is a slightly overweight feminist with an IQ of 210 (at last count). She has a "squished" visage (similar to that of a pug) and brown curls, although later in the series she dyes her hair blonde. She is loud-voiced...

...Kirsten Orshal English-10 Greer Author Paper 4/10/14 “A queen is never late, everyone else is simply early” (Queen Clarisse Renaldi the Princess Diaries). This is a quote that I live by. Whenever I walk in late somewhere I will utter this quote and get surprised smiles and people saying “Oh the Princess Diaries I love that movie!” That movie was brought to life by a wonderful author Meg Cabot. Although the Disney movie did not directly follow the book it was based off of it, and there are many similarities. Meg Cabot is quite like Mia in the sense that she is tall, and has lived in an apartment, yet unlike little Mia she’s not a secret air to a small kingdom. When Meg writes a book she is sure to put a piece of her into it. Meg’s mystery series really ties into her life. Meg lived in New York City, she was an assistant residency hall director, and she attended college just like her main character Heather wells. Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967 (“Contemporary Authors Meg Cabot”). She is a number one New York Times bestselling author for all ages. She writes for adults teens and tweens alike. Meg Cabot grew up in Bloomington Indiana a relatively small town. She also lived in Carmel California which is also the setting for her mediator series. (Abbots) Meg also has a college education. She received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Indiana College. (Cabot) Contrary to popular belief, not all authors live alone with their cats, although Meg does not have any...

I will identify the particular elements of these dimensions, I felt existed, and also make reference to those, which appeared absent in the learning situation. I will finish by reflecting on the importance of this assignment and the implications for teaching in general. The children were asked to close their eyes and 'think carefully' about their favourite characters and what they knew about them. The children all did this and it was obvious by the expressions on their faces that they were concentrating and thinking really hard. This to me indicated that they were involving themselves in a form of higher order thinking. Their finished diary entries also were evidence of this, they produced extremely interesting and clever work, which showed a great deal of thought on the student's part. Both 'deep understanding' and 'deep knowledge' were present in this lesson. The children demonstrated a deep understanding of the underlying concepts of the task; they were able to use their knowledge to solve the problem and were able to establish the relationship of there being more than one correct answer. —David Supportive classroom environment See the Queensland government 'New Basics Project' Supportive classroom environment site....

...Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time Rationale For my English course we studied two texts, The Secret Sharer by Joseph Conrad, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. I decided to write on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time because I think the book has an interesting and unique plot. I have chosen to write three diary entries. This text type is appropriate because diaries are personal and reveal feelings that contribute to the furthering of the plot. The purpose of my characters diary entries is to reveal their inner emotions and feelings. The intended audience for the diary entries are the characters themselves, as only they will read their diary. I will write three diary entries in the characters of Christopher, Father and Mother. I have deliberately used swear words in Father’s diary entry as he swears a lot throughout the book, and it reflects his personality. As Mother misspells many words in her letters to Christopher, I use clumsy spelling in her diary entry, to present her the way the reader knows her from the book. Father’s Diary Hello Dairy, I can’t believe Christopher is still poking around in other people’s business after I told him several bloody times to mind his own f*&%ing business. I have to think of something fast. He’s a clever boy. He could find out, he could find out about everything. I can’t let that happen. Maybe if I hadn’t killed that bloody dog in the first place, none of this...

Wealth over Love

...Short Story Wealth Over Love Once upon a time, in the far far away kingdom of Smis, there was a beautiful princess named Elizabeth. She was always satisfied with what she has. She was never sad, and is always smiling, as her kingdom is affluent, full of wealth, power, and dignity. One late evening, she heard a small noise out from the outside of her room. It was a small tiny noise she didn’t really notice at first, but it occurred again. She wondered what it was, so she walked outside to check what it was. Once she got onto her balcony, the bright moon light hit her body. She felt lighted up. The stars are sparkling like ice cubes, with the backdrop of the sky which was glowing blue. The mysterious noise repeated again, and with more distinct of frustration. It was the small sparrow under the full moon. Elizabeth stood there and kept observing the sparrow. The sparrow kept making the frustrating sound, and never got onto the branch, and keeps flying around near the tree. Her sound was sharp, long, and seems like she’s longing for someone. She sounded like she is singing to someone to come to her. The bird seem painfully isolated comparing to the fulfilled moon with it’s company of sparkling stars. Looking at the sparrow, Elizabeth felt the dryness. Then came a male sparrow. It flew up to the tree where the other sparrow was. Elizabeth couldn’t hear anymore frustrating sound from the sparrow. The two sparrows started to fly around together for a while. Then I could...

Folklore Analysis Based on Propp's Seven Spheres of Action

...love struck. The prince asked both of them to marry him but they refused to share. The princesses quarreled over the prince which also caused the villagers to fight amongst each other. Puteri Sejinjang hit Puteri Santubong on the cheek with her rice pounder and Puteri Santubong countered by striking her with her belidak, the tool she uses for weaving. Both princesses died and were cursed to become mountains, Gunung Santubong and Gunung Sejinjang. Based on Vladimir Propp’s seven spheres of action, seeing that Raja Kayangan had sent the two princesses to aid the people of the villages, he acts as the Dispatcher and by granting them special abilities he is also the Donor and the Helper. This in turn makes the princesses Heroes. The Princess, or in this folklore’s case, the Prince is the one that Puteri Santubong and Puteri Sejinjang wants to marry; Putera Serapi. But by ending the peace between the two villages also causes the princesses to become False Heroes ergo the Villains. The only binary opposition that can be found in the story is the time which the princesses chose to do their work. Puteri Santubong preferred to weave cloth at night time because the air was cooler while Puteri Sejinjang liked to pound rice during the day when the air was...

The Character of Jefferson

...clearly show that although society may cast Jefferson out as a black murderer, he can still triumph somewhat knowing that he retains the qualities of a good human being. The first trait Jefferson demonstrates after his incarceration is the fact that he still enjoys the outside comforts of small things such as a radio and diary. The fact that Jefferson still wants these things shows his imprisonment does not defeat him. In one of his last diary entries, Jefferson says , “shef guiry ax me what I want for my super an I tol him I want nanan to cook me som okra an rice an som pok chop an a conbred an som claba” (232). Jefferson still enjoys his aunt’s cooking, an outside pleasure from prison. The fact that he can still take pleasure from these small outside things clearly demonstrates that Jefferson enjoys a small victory over the world that has locked him away. The second characteristic that shows society does not defeat Jefferson is Jefferson’s remaining strong compassion for everyone around him. This shows that through defeat, Jefferson remains a strong person by not holding any grudges against his incarcerators. A selection from his diary reads, “This was the firs time I cry...

How to Analyse Sources

...HOW TO ANALYSE SOURCES ANALYSING OF SOURCES Historical criticism.-> Original document? How, when, and why did it come into being? Where does it come from? Who is the author or the cartoonist or the cameraman? 2 critical questions: Could the witness possibly have known the truth? Did the witness wish to tell the truth? EVALUATING OF SOURCES Authenticity? (are there factual errors in the source?) Reliability? (how long after the event was the source produced?) Bias/Prejudice? Subjectivity VS objectivity? Historians have an issue, the source is problematic (biased, emotions, etc) and the historian is a human writer. To guard oneself from being manipulated by bias sources, one must cross-reference. This means one must analyse a few sources and then synthesise their own conclusion. Within moments, the narrator then shows Jack as very uncaring, as he pushes her head down while attempting to hide her from his wife. Not only are the readers now looking at him as an adulteress, but through the narrator’s description of her surroundings, are envisioning Jack as a guy who drinks booze with under aged girls while wearing dirty boots in his dirty truck.
