America was founded on the desire for free speech and a hatred of over censorship. People have always found ways to abuse free speech and for that reason there is a term called hate speech. Groups like Westboro Baptist Church use hate speech to spread their message. Hate speech is not easily defined because of the tricky bounds of America’s free speech law. This has helped movements like the Pro-ana movement stay alive and mostly unchecked. With eating disorders plaguing so many people this could be dangerous for any minors on the internet.
Hundreds of people die every because of eating disorders and many people develop body issues at very young age. A movement online was started called Pro-ana and in some cases Pro-Mia, referring to eating …show more content…
These teens are very vulnerable to manipulation. This is how it becomes clear the pro-Ana movement’s cult-like nature and child groomers have a lot in common. Both create an environment where the victim feels like they cannot say no or leave. Both also recreate identity(Bates 2015). The biggest difference between the people creating Pro-Ana chats to actually make people anorexic versus predators is their intent. People running Pro-Ana chats often times are trying to lead people to participate in toxic behavior to rationalize it. These people make special rules that are very unhealthy including fasting and eating less than 500 calories a day (Maloney 2013). These leaders are called Pro-Ana coaches and most of them do not think they are doing harm whatsoever. Predators often pose as Pro-Ana coaches and people sometimes cannot tell the difference(Brenneisen 2015). Pro- Ana groups are based in child-grooming and this leads to various awful …show more content…
Most, if not all, freedoms in our constitution are protected if they are legal. If pro-ana was a group directly targets one person and aims to cause them harm, it is not protected. If Pro-ana was a group constantly sharing child-pornography, it would not be protected. This might prove pro-ana is not protected speech but, there’s some problems with that conclusion (Baker 2013). The first and biggest problem being Pro-ana is not meant to be a child-pornography chat. If every website was taken down for the sharing of child-pornography social media websites like snapchat would be shut down. The biggest problem with this accusation is way most people use Pro-ana sites or chats. Most people do not send nudes to these groups, in fact some groups don’t involve body pictures at all. Just like not everyone on snapchat sends nude photos and they do not label themselves as a child nude sharing

Study Habits

...three are insidious, but procrastination may be the most prevalent. Derived from the Latin roots pro (forward) and crastinus (tomorrow), procrastination has been in the Oxford English Dictionary since the mid-1500s. Procrastination is so widespread in schools that the novelist Eliyahu Goldratt dubbed it “student syndrome” in his book “Critical Chain.” Students who suffer from this syndrome delay doing a task until right before deadline. They work on a paper just before it is due and, for lack of time, often resort to cutting and pasting passages from other sources, without proper attribution. They cut classes to print out their papers and, when something goes awry, blame the printer, the ink cartridge, even the dog. Cramming Cramming is classic procrastination. A student we will call Ana failed a major test. She cried, “But I studied, I really did!” Yes, she did but this is how Ana and her friends tackled four chapters of more than a hundred pages. They listened to the lectures but did not take notes. Thinking they understood the lessons, they did not open the textbook for a month. At 7 p.m. before the exam, they held a group study at Ana’s house. “We did not sleep at all,” Ana wailed. “We studied for 12 hours straight, up to 7 a.m. the next morning.” They were shocked that they failed. I was shocked that they expected to ace the test given their poor study habits. During the test, Ana said she remembered reading the terms the night before, but forgot the links between ideas. Nursing Accountability

...Nursing Accountability of Implementing Changes Nursing accountability is often associated with specific expectations which include clinical care. This is an agency that supports health services research that will improve the quality of healthcare and promote evidence-based decision making (AHRQ, May 2009). It is zascsanecessary for nurses to stay up to date on clinical practices so that they can provide the best care possible to their patients. “The nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for individual nursing judgments and actions.”(ANA, 2001, p. 1) This paper will discuss evidence-based patient safety practices, focusing on the safety practice of: Prevention of Intravascular Catheter-Associated Infection by use of maximum sterile barrier precautions. There are pros and cons to the short-term use of central venous catheters (CVC) in the hospital. The benefit of having an intravascular catheter is that it allows you to give large volumes and high concentrations of fluids to patients. It also prevents a patient on long-term antibiotics from having multiple IV starts. However, there are also serious complications with the most common being infection.(Shonjania et al., 2001) According to AHRQ, the use of maximum sterile barrier precautions decreases the risk of catheter related...

Montes was the pinnacle Analyst for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), yet, in her secret life, her true fervor showed as she worked for Fidel Castro and the Cuban Intelligence Services, Dirección de Inteligencia, (DI), translated in English as the Intelligence Directorate of Cuba. Montes listened to coded messages over shortwave radio, passed secret files to handlers in busy public locales, and snuck into the Communist country adorned with a fake passport. “Your honor, I engaged in the activity that brought me before you because I obeyed my conscience rather than the law. I believe our government's policy towards Cuba is cruel and unfair, profoundly unneighborly, and I felt morally obligated to help the island defend itself from our efforts to impose our values and our political system on it.” (Montes, 2012) Montes gave this statement to the presiding judge who presided over Magistrate Number: 01-0568M. Hiv Ethics Study

...transmitted in several ways the most common ways are via sexual transmission or intravenous drug use. Therefore there has always been a stigma attached to HIV – even for those who are in the health profession. A nurse who has been in this vocation for twenty years will probably be able to tell you of a nurse who refused to take care of an HIV patient. Nursing has come a long way since the 1980s, when HIV became known. However, there are still issues that a nurse may face today. One of these issues is when a newly diagnosed HIV patient has a significant other. Should a nurse, knowing the potential devastating consequences of HIV, tell a patient’s sexual partner about their HIV status? This paper will discuss, the legal, moral and ethical ramifications of HIV disclosure. It will weigh the pros and cons of a nurse revealing this information, and it will provide recommendations for nurses who encounter this issue during their practice. It is understandable that a nurse may feel perplexed about this ethical dilemma. Once someone is diagnosed with HIV, they will have the disease for the rest of their lives. Currently there is not a cure. Although treatment options are available, the medications needed to minimize the viral load can be numerous and expensive. In addition, the side effects that can occur from these medications are daunting. Despite the fact that medications are available, there is always the potential that HIV will progress into AIDS. The Media & Eating Disorders

...with eating disorders and low self-esteem and how they relate to the appearance of the human body as portrayed in the media. This paper argues that there is now sufficient evidence to support a link, though not necessarily a direct causal link, between the media portrayal of the “ideal” body and people’s (especially women) reaction to their own bodies. Specifically, it argues that the unrealistically thin women and well-muscled men shown on television and in film show a body image that most people cannot attain, no matter how much they diet and exercise. Despite this, society insists that these distorted images are the “ideal,” leading some people to develop eating disorders or other psychological problems such as low self-esteem and body dissatisfaction when they fail to attain these impossible standards. Discussion As noted, the argument over whether there is a direct link between media images and body dissatisfaction is still a matter of debate; what is no longer debated is that “negative exposure effects” do in fact occur (Dittmar, 2009, p. 1). That is, it no longer in doubt that some individuals are affected negatively by what they see in the media. What studies are attempting to do now is to determine what “diverse factors” make these people susceptible to the impact of the media images, while others are not affected. Dittmar argues that research now aims to support “a qualified and complex picture of media effects or influences, highlighting the importance not only of individual...

...Euthanasia Debate May 24, 2010 Professor Melissa Green, M.H.A. Euthanasia Debate Every day in the field of medicine professionals are faced with an ethical decision or problem. The advancements in medicine and technology are raising questions and concerns never once thought of. Controversy over euthanasia is on the forefront of today’s health care platform. With the present change occurring with the American Heath Care Reform health care providers and society need to be informed of the options available in end of life care. This paper will present a debate about human euthanasia. Euthanasia will first be defined. Support for each side of the debate will be presented. Each side will be provided with questions from the opposing side, with the opposing teams response presented. Each side will then present a closing statement, again to support their side from the result of the debate. Euthanasia defined Euthanasia is the practice of mercifully ending a person's life to free someone from a deadly disease. The word euthanasia comes from the Greek word "good death." The term euthanasia is being used synonymously with the term Physician Assisted Suicide (PAS), although they are not one and the same. PAS generally refers to a practice in which the physician provides a patient with a lethal dose of medication, upon the patient's request, which the patient intends to use to end his or her own life (University of Washington School of Medicine, 2010). In these meetings Finance Minister, Saifur Rahman, met the so-called ‘development partners’ (IMF/World Bank and others) who gathered to pledge money (loan and aid) to help develop the nation. The meetings were hailed a great success as $2 billion in aid were promised to Bangladesh over 3 years. Our governments boast at the amount of funds they can manage from the donor agencies. They present their ability to get money from these donor agencies as a sign of their brinkmanship and claim that this is the only way to solve the nation’s economic problems.
