Product Assessment – Cassette Tapes
Discuss this product in terms of its repositioned target market demographics using U.S. Census Data. My product that I chose was cassette tape. As we all know technology is big in today’s society and has a great impact on all ages. Repositioning the cassette tapes within the United States could be a challenge due to the most updated technology the Mp3 player, IPhone and the IPod and I pad. Now the questions lie if you still have an old boom box as we called it. Cassette tapes as well as compact disc can play multiple songs that are interchangeable. That means knowing what it is exactly that motivates your customers. Cassette tapes repositioning can be done by adding a service, catchy brand name, logo, and the right price and by focusing on a different target market. My new target market for cassette tapes would be used in day care centers, libraries, nursing homes and where people are confined. The use would be music, books on cassata, and sermons from church services. Day care centers can use for quiet time as well as story time. According to the US Census Data, there are people of all ages who are employed in schools, daycare centers, nursing facility and hospitals. People like to listen to music, hear stories, and listen to their grandchildren and church sermons they may have missed. Cassette tapes are one way to accomplished all of these thing mentioned above day by day. This target market would find the use of cassette tapes and its new service very useful. Not all people are capable of affording cell phones these days as they are overpriced. Some cell phones can cost more than a person’s monthly car payment at the purchase of them. Segmentation, targeting, and positioning are important when identifying the specific target market that you will supply in order to sustain growth. The product that I have in mind to reposition is the MP3 player device. Apple already has MP3 players that have been very successful due to the increase in technology. Their products have ranged from 60 GB color screen iPods to the lower gig shuffle without a screen.
