American Accounting Association
Introduction
The following will describe the American Accounting Association (AAA), the ability the organization can attribute to my professional career and knowledge, and how this knowledge can be an attribute to my career success. How it will also help me to develop strategies and skills that will in the long run allow me to be a great asset to any agency in which I choose to work for .

Describe AAA The American Accounting Association promotes worldwide excellence in accounting education, research, and practice (AAA, 2010). The AAA, founded in 1916, was first known as the American Association of University Instructors in Accounting until 1936 when the association name was changed. The American Accounting Association is composed of voluntary persons and professionals that are interested or involved in accounting, accounting education, and research (AAA, 2010).
American Accounting Association Mission
The American Accounting Association mission is “to further the discipline and profession of accounting through education, research, and service” (AAA 2010). The Association acknowledges that its members share a number of common values, which include the importance of their personal integrity, their objectivity, sense of community, open communications, respect for each other, high ethical values and personal behaviors, and an obligation to serve important stakeholders, including the broader society within which we operate. This statement is an expression of the values the AAA share and designed to serve as a broad guide to the behavior they expect of each other. The members of the association acknowledge their obligation to serve at their academic institution or employer, and adhere to standards of conduct that those institutions may have established. They also acknowledge an obligation peculiar to their special role within the accounting profession, which is to serve the larger society in which we live. That larger society includes a variety of stakeholders, including our students, our academic colleagues, our business associates, other professional associations, governmental interests, our local communities, and the business community at large (Haynes & Gabhart, 1991). Due to the lack of Accounting Professionals not having a Ph. D., the AAA believes “there’s a role out there in teaching for people who have been working in the ‘real world” (Moyer, 2007).
Personal Attributes
Part of the association’s responsibility is to educate future accountants regarding honesty and integrity in accounting practices. A benefit of being a member is that “It publishes a quarterly scholarly journal, The Accounting Review” (Haynes & Gabhart, 1991). In addition, I would take advantage of the associations networking with other individuals that are already in the field of business accounting or are aspiring to be accountants. Being a member of the AAA can help me increment my knowledge by attending the conferences and workshops offered locally to help me build a resume. The second benefit is being able to obtain current information regarding accounting practices. Another benefit to joining the American Accounting Association is being able to learn the standards placed on members according to the mission statement.
Conclusion
Becoming a part of the AAA association will allow me to educate myself better with a range of networking skills and abilities for my future as an accountant.
