...Coffee Perhaps the most popular beverage in the world, coffee is brewed and prepared from the roasted seeds of several species of an evergreen shrub of the genus Coffea. It is cultivated in over 70 countries around the world, primarily in equatorial Latin America, South East Asia, and Africa. The beginning of our love affair with coffee can be traced back to the 15th century and most of the world’s population is well aware of its stimulating effect, thanks to its high caffeine content. Today, coffee is much more than just a drink – it’s the world’s second most tradable commodity after oil, and is a fast growing, already multi-billion dollar industry. Traditionally, coffee has always been grown amongst forest trees, in the shade. However, the yield from such a method of cultivation is low, and as a result, increased demand pressurized coffee producers to opt for alternate methods like sun-grown coffee (explained in detail below), which have ended up harming the environment to a great extent, a fact not many coffee lovers around the world are aware of. The burgeoning coffee culture that has sprung up over the last few decades has led to an overwhelming increase in demand for this liquid gold which has had a knock-on effect on the environment, with monoculture and sun grown coffee being the norm now. And given that most coffee growing regions are also home to some of the most delicate ecosystems on earth, the potential for serious damage is great. Sun-Grown Coffee Originating...

He emphasized on importance of education and how it is that we are to change the way we are teaching in America. He mentions that while the standardized testing is ok, we should however expand on the notion with state testing and expand within the arts. He mentions that 60% of children drop out of school before they get into high school. He also states the No Child Left Behind act is based not on diversity but conformity. He compared Finland to each state within the America. Finland does not use any standardized testing; yet they are consistently above average. The difference with Finland and any state in America can be summed up by 3 things. 1) America in general or state level does not individualize teaching and learning. 2) America in general or state level does not invest in the teacher. He states that America...

...ABSTRACT: This report introduces and motivates the use of hybrid robust feature extraction techniques for continuous speech recognition for Bengali Numerical digits system. The speech recognizers use a parametric form of a signal to get the most important distinguishable features of speech signal for recognition task. In this paper Linear predictive coding (LPC), Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC), Perceptual linear prediction coefficients (PLP) along with a hybrid feature Bark Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (BFCC) is used for language Identification. Bark Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (BFCC) and Revised Perceptual Linear Prediction Coefficients (RPLP) were obtained from combination of MFCC and PLP. Two different classifiers, Vector Quantization (VQ) with Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) were used for classification. The experiment shows better identification rate using hybrid feature extraction techniques compared to conventional feature extraction methods. BFCC has shown better performance than MFCC with both classifiers. RPLP along with GMM has shown best identification performance among all feature extraction techniques. Key words—Linear Predictive Coding(LPC), Perceptual Linear Prediction(PLP), Revised Perceptual Linear Prediction(RPLP), Bark Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (BFCC), Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient(MFCC), Vector Quantization(VQ), Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM), Dynamic Time Warping (DTW), Hidden Markov Model(HMM). ...

...Joensuu, Joensuu, Finland, and Arto Haikonen Genworth Financial, Helsinki, Finland Abstract Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the dynamics of organizational learning and continuous improvement (CI) in the context six sigma implementation in business organizations operating in multicultural environments. Design/methodology/approach – A specific research question is: does learning mechanisms and continuous improvement practices support each other and how, and what type of learning can be identified in the improvement of business processes. The question is linked to one of the fundamental issues currently discussed in the field of organizational learning; how do organizations get “from here to there”, in other words, what is the dynamics of the processes of learning and how progressive learning is achieved. A case study of a few Finnish companies is made and a procedural implementation model is applied. Findings – The findings suggest that the learning process is characterized by measurement, detection and correction of errors, and cost reduction. In six sigma implementation, learning is a single-loop type of learning. It is an incremental change process which reminds a technical variant of the learning organization. Continuous improvement occurs through procedural practices (the DMAIC-cycle) which forms a structure for sustaining learning. Research limitations/implications – In this study, an essential question remains still unanswered: what type of learning is appropriate...

Origins of the Organic Movement

...of the Organic Movement …………………………….12 Conclusion……………………………………………………………………………….13 Works Cited……………………………………………………………………………..14 Many organic practices simply make sense, regardless of what overall agricultural system is used. Far from being a quaint throwback to an earlier time, organic agriculture is proving to be a serious contender in modern farming and a more environmentally sustainable system over the long term. -David Suzuki The organic movement has been in swing since the early 1900’s. Many different companies, consumers and governances have all joined the bandwagon and work to further the goals of an organic world. The organic movement is no where near complete and many dedicated individuals are working to further its progress. Many retailers such as Whole Foods, Alfalfa’s, Wild Oats, and Trader Joes, are all companies dedicated to selling all-natural and organic food products to consumers. Even larger retailers like Wal-Mart and Target have opened their doors to a line of organic products. But what exactly does organic mean? Organic is best described as a way of growing food. It’s a form of agricultural that does not utilize synthetic fertilizers. Organic farming has developed in response to the increasing use of...

...Quazi Tasnim Hasan ID # 112 111 051 Assignment No. 4 What is economic integration? For the Last 65 years, the world has undergone significant changes. The decade of the 1970s was dominated by the two energy crises. Industrial economies were faced with a new “enemy”: stagflation—a combination of high inflation and unemployment. Developing countries were increasingly becoming more dependent on foreign borrowing and centrally planned economies were unable to secure economic growth. Furthermore, the world witnessed a radical transformation during the past two decades. The greatest economic experiment of the twentieth century was the movement from communism to a market economy, which began in Mikhail Gorbachev’s Russia in the mid-1980s, and then spread to Eastern Europe at the beginning of the 1990s and to China later on during the same decade. Although the transition to a free market has led to disappointing outcomes, most Eastern Europe countries have concentrated on integrating their economies with Europe and on becoming part of the EU. All these events led to the world becoming more and more global in nature and to defining globalization as a closer economic integration among nations through increased trade and capital flows. It also refers to labor movement and technology transfer across international borders as well as cultural and political issues, which are beyond the scope of this chapter. Globalization is the result of technological processes occurring mainly in the...

Convergence of Ifrs and Us Gaap

...Abstract As the world’s capital markets globalised in the last quarter of the twentieth century, it became increasingly difficult for investors and creditors to compare the financial statements of companies in different countries. Therefore, a standardised accounting standard should be introduced and follow by the companies all around the world in recording their financial statements in order to facilitate the investors in doing their business. International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) are two main accounting principles that is widely used in the majority of the companies. However, there will be still conflict in the interpreting and understanding each other financial statements due to these two different approaches. Therefore, to overcome this problem, International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) are working on it by taking the necessary steps as time passes to close down the gap and standardised the accounting principles globally making it easier for all parties.
