As a key internal stakeholder I was involved with the Interactive Portal Project while working at ABC Corp. The project’s goal was to increase community engagement with the corporation through the provision of services through the use of the extra bandwidth available to the community via the Federal Broadband Network (FBN). Services were to be delivered through a planning website that would allow the department to provide pre-lodgement meetings via web conferencing and a community engagement website that would allow residents to access community forums or consultation workshops by live streaming these sessions. The project was part of the Federal Government’s rollout of the FBN and as such, funding to complete the project was provided in part by the Federal Government.
Funding from the Federal Government was provided with the objective of increasing community engagement with the corporation, therefore imposing this change upon the corporation. The business change related to this proviso was that implementation of these websites would improve the delivery of services to the community, which the ABC Corp Corporate Plan states is one of the organisation’s goals (n.d, p 43).
However, although the goal is aligned to one of ABC Corp objectives, delivering services through the internet has not been one of the business objectives (ABC Corp Corporate Plan, n.d, p 43). Therefore, the imposed goal could not be fully aligned to the actual business strategy and required an alternative goal to align the project to the organisation’s need for change. Consequently, the internal alignment was to utilise the federal funding towards delivering ABC Corp with a new CMS, which would allow redevelopment of the existing the corporation website within a later project.
