Calcutta's Metro

...Calcutta’s Metro The major problem facing Project Managers is providing a clear and concise vision of the project details, who’s responsible for what and the initial budget. Without this the project has little or no chance to succeed. With a proper scope statement a project has the foundation for success. In the case of Calcutta’s Metro I believe the major problem was that the Project Manager (PM) didn’t effectively manage the project scope. A project scope according to Pinto is “everything about a project – work content as well as expected outcomes” . Since an effective project scope was not developed the project had multiple problems such as funding, construction plan, site ownership, pressure for stakeholders, and traffic flow just to name a few. The majority of the short term problems like traffic flow and pressure from stakeholders led to the long term problem of been over budget and time. Project Scope Management contains the following; conceptual development, scope statement, work authorization, scope reporting, control systems, and project closeout . Any one of these elements if properly managed and executed would have help with the success of the project. During the conceptual development the project team would have used brainstorming events that would have identified any problems to considered and plan for. With a scope statement the project team would have had a clean picture of what the project was, initial budget and responsibilities. The PM could......

The project will consist of the Huntsville plant construction effort, the details of which are in the "project tabs" in the course shell for each week's assignment This course project assignment follows the Huntsville project from a Project Charter (where the effort is initially approved), through the Project Scope Statement (where the scope is elaborated in more detail), through the WBS (where the major tasks and sub-tasks are documented), and finally to a completed project schedule in Microsoft Project, with resources and costs added in. Along the way we also complete a Risk Plan and a Communications Plan for the Huntsville project, and deal with scheduling and resource issues, all normal and customary actives in most project environments. However all a bit mysterious to the uninitiated! So I'm going to try and walk you through all of that with these Part-1 through Part-5 instruction documents. Smith Systems Consulting

...Final Project: System Upgrade Scenario Smith Systems Consulting has been providing Web and Business Application services since 1994. During nearly 20 years of business, Smith Systems Consulting’s systems have required several upgrades. This scenario is meant to detail their most recent upgrade and will assume that much of the infrastructure is in place (i.e. networking cable is either Cat5e or Cat6, networking devices such as hubs, switches, routers, and wireless access points are in place and firmware is current, hardware such as printers and scanners are capable of supporting current and future needs; monitors, input devices, and workstation PC’s are capable of supporting current software requirements) and will focus on new hardware such as servers as well as new or updated software. The desired result of this project is to maintain both client and internal data security and integrity and ensure there is as little interruption to Smith Systems Consulting and their clients’ workflow as possible. A project team has been selected from within and has been tasked with planning and implementing this project. Before the project can begin, time must be spent in the planning phase. By not planning how the project will advance, resources such as time, money, and man-hours will be wasted. The members of the team must research the business implications, perform a SWOT analysis, identify the stakeholders, prepare a scope statement and SOW, and provide specific details of what......

The people who requested the project and the project team should agree to all terms in the Scope Statement before actual project work begins. Your Scope Statement should include the following information: * Justification: How and why your project came to be, the business need(s) it addresses, the scope of work to be performed, and how it will affect and be affected by other related activities * Objectives: The products, services, and/or results your project will produce (also referred to asdeliverables) * Product scope description: The features and functions of the products, services, and/or results your project will produce * Product acceptance criteria: The process and criteria for accepting completed products, services, or results * Constraints: Restrictions that limit what you can achieve, how and when you can achieve it, and how much achieving it can cost * Assumptions: Statements about how you will address uncertain information as you conceive, plan, and perform your project Think of your Scope Statement, when viewed together with the other components of your project plan, as a binding agreement in which * You and your team commit to producing certain......

Eletromax Project Management

...Eletromax Project Management By Name Instructor Institution Date of submission Eletromax Project Management Part 1 Importance of scope Statement to the Success of a project Given that the project plan is referred to as the foundation of a successful methodology of project management. Then many argue that scope statement of any given project is the breath of any successful methodology of project management. Scope statement is of great importance as it contains details relating to the project vision. It plays an important role of describing the goals of the project, keep a record of what a complete project will be like and finally the deliverables of the project. It is very unfortunate that most of the project stakeholders tend to pay little attention to the process of developing scope statement of a project in question. Another very alarming issue relating to scope statement is that, most of the project managers tend to be very dedicated in developing the scope statement of a project but rarely do they pay attention to the scope developed as they go about their duties of implementing the project plan. For the scope statement to be of great importance to the successful implementation of the project plan, the manager of the project needs to keep on referring to the scope statement so that he/she can ensure that the project implementation is in line with the initial vision and objectives (Edward 1975). The scope statement is used to define the project......
