This project was selected because unlike the Juniper and Stargazer, and after preforming a feasibility study, it appeared to be the most viable and offered more of a return than the others. When comparing the project to its competitors, it was quite evident the project represents an opportunity for growth in a method that will prove beneficial to the organization. With a critical path to be 9 months at a rate of just under $73,000 per month, the organization still stands to gain a product forecast of at least $1.5 mil in ROI over the next five years. There is also an opportunity to increase the return on investment as the project offers a forecast of two years beyond the initial five. Another example for the strong recommendation is the project has already been introduced to the market, as evidenced in the report by mentioning having a customer who is currently using the product. The need to plan for manufacturing or planning for the product is a must as there will need to be proper plan in place to ensure the products are completed and prepared for delivery. Once completed there will be a need to launch the product, but only to the customer for use. Performance will be monitored over the term of the project until its possible close in seven years, which at this time is only a forecast. Meaning, the project could be extended beyond the time initially proposed. The key deliverables, such as the enhanced products, are even acceptable in this instance. Additionally, with the 5% margin of error and medium risk, this project appears to be the most viable. Juniper, who has a ROI that appears to have a projected forecast that weighs highly

Project Selection

...Project Selection Not Areal Name University of Learning ClassNumber Date Project Selection The Project Management Office (PMO) task, per our company’s vice-president Wendell Deirelein, is to review Piper Industries Corporation’s upcoming project selection candidates to determine the best way forward for their production of the widget. In response to your request to evaluate the three projects, Juniper, Palomino, and Stargazer, we have developed the opinion that Juniper is the most beneficial project to undertake, in both monetary and reputational returns. Recommendation Reasoning We are performing the first “Initiate” step of the project process by identifying the stakeholders and naming and defining the projects at a broad level; we have not completed project initiation as we are also currently developing the feasibility study. When we complete this phase, we will have a list of requirements and full analysis of the recommended project. This memo is one part of the first step in the process, by which we provide our recommendation to proceed with a project line. Many considerations go into choosing the project to pursue beyond the financial benefits such as ease of production, customer support and satisfaction, and the level of risk acceptance. This careful consideration is not completely independent of project planning. Identification of the key deliverables necessary project success is part of that second step, known as the “Project Planning” phase. Key Deliverables ...

Project Selection and Risk

...Project Selection and Risks Miguel Rodriguez Project Management Integration Framework BA647 Grantham University Project Selection and Risks Project selection and project risks go hand in hand. Choosing or even not choosing a project, can create risks. Projects are designed to allow organizations to either develop something new or to improve on something already in place. Any given organization can have many good projects that can improve its products, but if the organization is lacking a good project management program and/or has a meager project portfolio, then project risks becomes an even bigger issue. The process for selecting projects can create several project risks; such as having too many projects with limited funds/resources, unforeseen external risks, inadequately trained staff, and multiple of unforeseen problems, causing changes and delays to the project. Some of these examples I just mentioned, can be avoided or minimize with a good project management program. This paper will discuss some of the things a good project management program would include. The overall purpose of a project management program is to help in identifying the unknown risks and to help minimize the known risks. “Without adequate analysis of projects, no one has much idea of what “going right” looks like, so it is not possible to identify and manage the risks – the things that may go wrong” (Kendrick page 20). Even with this knowledge, some organizations at different levels...

Proposing a Project Portfolio Evaluation & Selection Process

...Re: Proposing a Project Portfolio Evaluation and Selection Process Executive Summary Taking into account the poor performance of our current projects due to a weak portfolio management process in place, the Operations SBU has come to the determination that if we are to move forward in accommodating new projects along with our existing ones, the current system must be reviewed and redesigned for better decision-making. This proposal defines a framework for project portfolio evaluation and a project selection for adoption and it elaborates on the two phases that involve project screening, selection, prioritizing and balancing. More emphasis is given to the project selection criteria and score model as this is the main area where the gap of knowledge has been identified. Rationale Our recent organizational determination to sustain by controlling costs and expanding our frontiers shall require much effort from all our SBUs and most importantly, it is crucial that we are able to incubate a proper process that shall boost good decision-making and mitigate conflicts when we come to screening multimillion dollar projects and implementing them as part of our operations. The said process shall be about evaluating our project portfolio and devising a methodology of selecting specific projects with the highest probability of helping our company achieve its strategic goals and fulfill our mission. From the Operations SBU perspective, the implementation of new projects without proper categorization...

Project Selection Method and Flowchart for a Project

...Project Selection Method and Flowchart for a Project OPS/TM571 October 31, 2011 Project Selection Method and Flowchart for a Project My organization has a handful of customers, but because the product in the field is still immature, I receive a lot of support issues that need almost instant response on root cause analysis. These issues usually come through email or phone calls from the sales engineers. The steps I follow are, once the issue comes through an email or phone, I file a defect in the defect tracking system with the information at hand, and then the issue goes to engineers to reproduce and perform the root cause analysis. After that, the priority is to find the workaround for customer, provide the feedback in email and wait for customer response on the workaround, in some cases, the customer needs issue fix in the product and that request goes through the product management. I would like to streamline this process, because the email communication for the issues is very confusing and time consuming. Project Selection Method to Evaluate the Process Improvement List of problems: 1. Issues coming through emails do not have enough information about the issue itself, such as platform, configuration, customer setup, priority of issue, frequency of issue. 2. The sales engineers do not file any issue in the defect tracking system and email directly to engineers many a times for customer issues. 3. The emails have multiple issues under one subject matter...

Course Project Topic Selection

...COURSE PROJECT TOPIC SELECTION BY BETTY TAYLOR INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY SECTION 13 DR.NUTAN MISHRA This research paper is being submitted on January 11, 2014 by Betty Taylor for Introduction to Sociology. The social construction of sexual orientation is of interest to me due to the fact that this has become an issue in society. Throughout time more and more people have been more straight forward with their sexual orientation and in some areas of society have not been accepted for who they are. I myself have had this issue and actually lost a job due to it. The social construction of sexual orientation is based on the symbolic-interaction theory and conflict theory. It is mostly based on the conflict theory due to the conflict it has caused in many areas throughout society. Sociological theories of suicide has had a great impact on many lives throughout time and some of these suicides does affect society as a whole, especially when it is someone who is well known or famous. Every day there is a suicide that takes place in every state or community. There are many different theories to why suicide takes place but in reality no one can really say why someone feels the need to take their own life because with each individual there is always a different motive to it. A sociological theory of suicide goes with both the conflict theory and the symbolic theory because of the kind of impact it has on other people lives. The purpose of poverty in America was one that I found...

Information System Briefing

...Understanding how goals of an organization and the roles of its stakeholders affect the selection process of an information system is vital to the success of that project. To ensure the execution of this task as well as its organization, efficiency, and accuracy, key leaders join creating a team of professionals ready for implementing change (Wager, Wickham Lee, & Glaser, 2009) . Learning how to select and acquire an information system, goals that should drive it and the roles of stakeholders is imperative to keep the project from failing. Selecting and Acquiring an Information System The process for selecting and acquiring an information system begins when the benefits of the current system no longer outweigh the cost to maintain it (Wager, Wickham Lee, & Glaser, 2009) . A general process most organizations use to select and acquire a new information system is the “systems development lifecycle” (SDLC). This system consists of four phases, which are planning and analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation (Wager, Wickham Lee, & Glaser, 2009) . Phase one in this process is the, planning, and analysis phase. The focus is to identify the organizations current information systems in an effort to define specific areas that may need improvement. The second step in this process is the, design phase. During this phase, the team decides the most appropriate route for establishing the project financially, settles on a specific information system, finalizes negotiations with...

Decisions of Uncertainity

...Decisions of Uncertainty Introduction The Decision What is the probability of hiring a qualified employee upon selecting one from 52 applicants 26 are male and 26 are female? Probability Concepts The probability of the event –hiring a qualified male employee—is the proportion of times the company would expect to obtain a qualified male employee over the long run if the HR managers selected applicants many times. I will refer to each repetition of the situation – in this case the selection of a qualified male future employee—as a sampling experiment. The probability of the event is the proportion of times we would expect the event to occur in an infinitely long series of identical sampling experiments. The Outcome In this case, the probability of selecting a qualified male employee is 0 .50 or 50%. I arrived at this conclusion by using the knowledge that there are 52 applicants who areapplying for the open position, 26 are female and 26 are male. If the company assume that each of the 52 possibilities is equally likely, it is reasonable to expect that the company would select a male applicant that is qualified for the open position 0.50 of the time of a period of time ( 26/52 = ½ = 0.50 ). This illustrates the basic rule for obtaining probabilities in situations in which each of the possible outcomes is equally likely, the probability of the occurrence of an event is equal to the proportion of the possible outcomes characterized by the event. In the case of...
