Prom Night

The ringing of my alarm clock woke me up; I reached for it to make it stop. Still in my bed, I began to stretch a bit. I barely slept the night before, I was to excite for prom. It was already late Thursday morning, the sun was gleaming through my windows and I knew I had a lot to get done. My mom entered my room “It’s prom day!” she squealed. She seemed more excited about my prom than I was. “C’mon get up, you need to get your hair, nails and makeup done!” I got out of bed and began to start my day. While taking a shower, hot water beating against my skin, I planned out my day. Everything seemed perfect, just the way I wanted it to be.
Stepping out of my house, I felt the humidity smack me in my face; this wasn’t a good sign at all. I quickly grabbed my phone to check the weather. Eighty-five degrees? I knew there wasn’t anything I could have done to change the weather, I just had to cross my fingers and hoped that my hair wasn’t going to become frizzy My day started out with getting my nails done, then my hair, then my makeup. Being the impatient person that I am, I couldn’t help becoming anxious, I couldn’t wait to get all these things done with. Even though, I did enjoy the feeling of getting pampered.
During my preparation for prom, I was so nervous because I didn’t know what to do. The smell of hairspray, nail polish and makeup filled the atmosphere. My hands were shaking and sweating, my heart was beating so fast, and it was like I was running in an Olympics. Why was I so nervous? Oh yeah, I remember prom was two hours away! I decided to text my date to get my mind off my nervous tendencies. My date was my boyfriend. For him, it was his second prom. He had graduated a year before me so all the excitement for him was already long gone. He reassured me that this night was going to be everything I expected it to be. While slipping into my long, ivory, rhinestone dress. I took a look in the mirror, put my earrings on and smile. I was satisfied with the way I looked. I looked over to my prom ticket, written in italics I read “ Congratulations you have been invited to the Bronx Lab Senior Prom” it was a Las Vegas theme prom the colors in the invitation was black, purple and gold. So I could’ve only picture how the hall was going to look. I looked at my phone again it was almost four- thirty. My prom wasn’t the typical prom, my date didn’t come home to pick me up, and I wanted to do things differently. So instead my girlfriends and I rented a limo and pick our dates up from their house, but before we could have done that we all had to meet up, which was my friends house, Jennifer.
While my mom drove me over there, I had the air conditioner on blast. I wasn’t going to risk becoming sweaty. The anxiety started to build up. My mom started giving me the lecture that every parent gave his or her child on prom night. Of course I reassured her that there was nothing she had to worry about. As we arrived to Jennifer’s house, being the girls that we were all I heard were joyful screams and “ Oh my god, you look so beautiful!” We then took a million and one pictures and waited for the limo to arrive. As soon as the long, white, stretched limo arrived I called my date, “hey, I’ll see you in a few”. He just responded with an okay. Inside the limo were bright lights and loud music; it was jus the way we wanted it to be. When we arrived the guys were all there, they looked so handsome with their suits on. I looked at my date “hey handsome” he smiled. “You look beautiful”, he said. The look in his eyes told me that he wasn’t lying. After that we took even more pictures and started heading to prom, we were going to be an hour late but we didn’t mind. The limo ride had to be the most enjoyable part of prom; everyone seemed so happy and filled with excitement. We were really loud, because the limo driver had to ask us to quite down. Pulling up to the doors of prom, it looked like a red carpet event and we were the celebrities, stepping out of the limo I tripped on my dress, but when I looked up I saw every couple getting their picture taken and I couldn’t stop smiling.
Stepping through the door, that familiar smell creeps through my mind and I can't refrain from grinning from ear to ear. As I take my next step, my heart pounds and my head goes numb with a sense of bliss and satisfaction I will soon be experiencing what I waited for four years for. The hall was the exact colors that were on ticket, balloons everywhere, long streamers hanging from the ceiling, it was as if we were really in Las Vegas. Dancing with some of my best friends, dressing up in my long ivory dress, eating some of the most wonderful food and riding in a white stretch limousine, was everything I wanted my prom to be. Prom was a magical experience that fulfilled my wildest fantasies and it exceeded all my expectations. While slow dancing with my date, it was just like in the movies where the guy wrapped his arms around the girls waist and she slung her arms over his shoulder, then they waddled slowly together while slowly rotating, looking into each others eyes. He looked me in the eyes and we stared at each other until the song ended and finished with a kiss, it was the most romantic thing ever, and it’s a constant memory that replays in my head over and over again.
Next to your wedding date the most important thing that a young woman looks forward to is her senior prom. Prom and of course graduating are the most important things to any high school teenager. You plan months in advanced and spend hundreds of dollars for something that will last only four hours. But it’ll be the best four hours that would’ve ever invested in. Prom is not just a dance but also the last event that you and your graduation class will ever share. Prom will forever have a lifelong impact on your life. My prom turned out to be the one of the greatest memories in my senior year.

The Analysis of W.S. by L.P. Hartley

...Concertgebouw Orchestra in a breathtaking suspended whisper, the moment should have been utterly transporting – unfortunately, the piercing sound of an unadjusted hearing aid went ringing round the hall like a tiny, whiny theremin. A couple of weeks earlier, Mariss Jansons and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra had to compete with a cheerful volley of dry coughs ricocheting around the Usher Hall. And there were phones ringing while Nikolai Lugansky played Janáček, not to mention shuffling and chatting as Ensemble musikFabrik played Cage. It's not just Edinburgh, of course. In his review of the BBC Symphony Orchestra's Proms performance of Górecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, the Guardian's Martin Kettle picked up on the (invariably Proms-specific) issue of clapping between movements. "Górecki's solemn spell was only violated by the insistence of part of the Proms audience on applauding at the end of each movement," he wrote. Commenter James Welford replied: "Whilst...

Reflection Paper on Sandy Hook

...families of those who lost love ones in one dreadful day. I try to imagine how scared those children must have been but also how braved they were, trying to keep quiet and motionless so they could live to see this day. Images of their friends being killed before their eyes will forever be tainted in their memory. On a personal level, my heart broke for the fallen. A mother waiting for her child to return from school, a husband waiting for his wife, a sibling waiting for his/her brother/sister to play with; only to find out that day will never come. Their lives have been taken away by a man, who did it for selfless reasons, a man who took out his own personal distress on little girl who will never see a next birthday or go to her high school prom. He dealt with his anger and frustration on the little boy who would never get his license or be the next star player on the football team. He let out his rage on the teacher who would never go home to her kids or get engaged. I mourn for those who never got a chance and for the families who are to this day still experiencing the most dreadful pain of all. What was this man’s motive? The answer to this question will forever be unknown as this young man took his own life after his shooting. But I believe that it is not...

Best Prom Ever

...“Best Prom Ever” When I was in 4th year high school, I had so much fun in our prom night. I’m so grateful because it gave me good memories that will be unforgettable for me. Our prom started with an entourage. I’m nervous that time because I’m thinking that I might not do it well. But luckily, I passed on it with my partner. Then, many other ceremonies followed such as the opening ceremony, invocation, singing of the national anthem and the school hymn, turn over ceremony of seniors to the juniors, and next is what everyone’s waiting for, the awarding. I really expected that I would be the Ms.Senior. But when the MC announced the Ms.Senior, I heard that it was a different name, in short, it wasn’t me. So I am really frustrated. But suddenly, I heard the MC already announcing the Queen of the Night, he called my name! I can’t believe that it was me. I just noticed it when my friends also called me and teased me. I thought it was just a dream. Then I went to the stage, I’m still shocked and I’m out of myself. I saw everyone’s looking at me while they’re smiling. I’m happy because no one says or even thinks that I don’t deserve it. Just a few minutes afterwards, the Seniors’ special number started. I’m in front because I’m one of the good dancers. I danced gracefully and confidently. I think it is also the effect of being the Queen of the Night. I just can’t move on. And last in the program, the “dance dance party…”. Party songs are played first. So everyone is on the......

...My granddaddy did it. So, I’m gonna learn to do it” (Prom Night in Mississippi n.pag.). Being controlled by more superior influences can result in problematic situations. The grandfathers to the fathers to their kids’ opinions are being changed. With this type of opinion, they usually find themselves in awkward situations. For example, in the documentary Prom Night in Mississippi, they have separate black and a white prom because of their racist opinions (n.pag.). A person does have the right to their own opinions. On the other hand, people should not have the right to resemble their fake opinions, only shown because of a controlling influence. In addition, the people often being controlled find themselves in sticky situations. If people start representing their own opinions, these problematic conflicts will soon die out. But, the chances of people becoming their personal opinions are extremely minute because most controlling parents do not let their kids have opinions of their own. An anonymous person proves this, “There’s people around here that will disown their kids if they try to mix things up like that. A lot of parents, not just one or two” (Prom Night in Mississippi n.pag.). These kids...

10 Limousine Tips for Teens During Prom Season: How to Be Safe, Stylish, and Smart

...With prom season blasting upon us, parents and teens need facts to make smart decisions regarding their limousine rental during this chaotic time. How do you pick a good limo company? Is the cheapest going to be the best? Are my kids going to be safe on this very important night? These are just a few of the questions and concerns that surface during the annual ritual we call Prom Season. Below are 10 tips to ensure that you are SAFE and STYLISH and SMART this prom season. 1) Always Look and Touch. You spend hours calling every limousine company to find the best deal on a Sacramento Party Bus rental, but how do you know that the car you have rented is the actual car that is going to show up? If a smoke-filled, 1970s, dented limo shows up, is it too late to say no…? Do you refuse to pay and end up sitting on the curb? Avoid these hassles by ALWAYS LOOKING AND TOUCHING. Go to your limousine company and see the cars firsthand. Once you make your reservation, GET A WRITTEN AGREEMENT showing the price and the actual limousine that will pick you up. 2) Know the TOTAL cost. Prom has ended and everything was great, but then the charge hits your parents’ credit card. It’s $300 more than what you expected and it’s now a month after the prom. Are all of your friends going to pay more money NOW…? Always ask about the total cost. Is there a mandatory 20% gratuity? Are there additional charges for every stop the limo makes? Are there surcharges or other fees? Is the normal......

In this paper we will take a look at an adolescent girl who is going to attend her Junior/Senior prom. The prom is a modern rite of passage that thousands of kids experience every year. During prom all kids face many issues such as pressure to drink, have sex or even experiment with drugs. We will also explore the different solutions that a young girl can be given to handle these types of modern day pressures. Social Demands Facing Adolescent Girls Today There are so many social demands of teens nowadays with prom being significant for adolescents and apparently more so for adolescent girls. Prom is an influential occasion in a teenager’s high school livelihood—one of the last big thrills before graduation day. For an adolescent girl, the prom is not just about finding the perfect dress; it’s about the hair, the limo, the friends, the date, the photos, the parties, and the parents who are so unfair in their eyes (Elejalde-Ruiz, Alexia, 2010). The dresses that are put in the stores for girls to buy can be quite revealing; therefore, the pressure of...

Literary Review of Carrie by Stephen King

...Tyler Viator Due: March 5, 2015 English 2123 Lisa Nohner A Mother’s Influence Stephen King’s novel, Carrie, is the story of a girl who uncovers her unique ability on her path to womanhood and power. Stephen King wrote his story about Carrie three years after he graduated from college. During the 1970s, while King was in college, he was transformed by the idea of Women’s Liberation and how it would influence both males and females. King used interstitial, grotesque, sexual, gender, power, and violent literary elements with components of the European and American gothic genre to create a Supernatural Horror/Drama that reflected on life during the time period. Carrie White was raised by her widowed mother, Margaret White, on Carlin St. in Chamberlain, Maine during the mid 1970s. Throughout Carrie’s childhood, she was the subject of mental and physical abuse. Her mother and late father, Ralph White, were religious zealots who attempted to conceal Carrie from the outside world. Often times, when Carrie acted out, Margaret would inflict physical pain upon herself and sentence Carrie the closet to punish her for her wrongdoings. The abuse did not stop at home. At the age of 17, Carry had her first menstrual cycle in the girls’ shower of her high school Ewan Consolidated High School. After the girls recognized Carrie’s confusion and panic, they began to collectively ridicule her until Mrs. Desjardin, their instructor could come to Carrie’s aid. On the way home from school......

I met Carlos when I was in elementary school, during a game of basketball during recess. We began hanging out a lot after our initial meeting and remained friends for the remainder of our grade school years; until Senior Prom. As the end of our High School Careers began to come to an end, so did the remainder of our friendship. We would go to parties together, meet new people together, and hang out together. One could say that we were basically non-conjoined Siamese Twins. This being said, there was not anything, or anybody, that we did not discuss. We knew of each other’s girlfriends, ex-girlfriends, women on the side, and close friends. That is why it surprised me when he betrayed me on the biggest night of High School. After careful planning and preparation, the pre-Prom festivities went smoothly.
