D, Salinger’s novel, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden is a troubled teenager on a journey to find himself. However, on the path, he latches onto the image of being a hypocrite by exemplifying all the characteristics he hates of others onto himself. Throughout the book, Holden often expresses his deep displeasure for nearly every action done by his roommate from Pencey, Stradlater. It is specifically shown towards Stradlater's techniques with girls but Holden really is no different with his own "womanizing" ways. Pencey, where Holden attends is a prestigious all boys school in Pennsylvania where competition of who gets more girls is considerably fierce. Later when Stradlater tells he is going on a date with Jane Gallagher who had been someone Holden was pining for since they spent a summer together in Maine, Holden is furious knowing Stradlater's womanizing reputation. Women who were raised with a lack of paternal authority can often face significant setbacks when dealing with everyday life issues. Promiscuity as a self-destructive behavior has substantial consequences often resulting in mental and physical suffering. This qualitative single case study was designed to explore the correlation of promiscuity- as a self-destructive behavior with women who were raised in single-mother households where there was a lack of paternal authority. A single intrinsic case study was used to explore one woman’s battle with promiscuity. The data obtained formed a narrative generated by the triangulation of psychoanalytical therapy sessions, a client intake form and the woman’s journal. A case analysis was performed and later reviewed by an attending mental health clinician. The results indicated the woman manifests the self-destructive behavior of promiscuity at the expense of poor self-esteem which directly correlates with a lack of paternal authority. It appears as if the more someone tells us its wrong or sex is forbidden till marriage, the more determined we are as a society to do just the opposite. The ethical and unethical views of sex is all over the television, in music videos, on social media, and even cartoons making this debate between Russell and Scruton relevant in discussing sexual ethics. Russell and Scruton’s opposing and compelling points of view on sexual ethics has described the structure of our society. Huxley’s Brave New World is a dystopian novel that tells a tale of humans born in laboratories who are free to use drugs and have sex at their leisure, which mirrors a few aspects of today’s world. Sexual promiscuity was commonplace and the concept of free love was encouraged. Women of the late 60s and early 70s had all the advantages of post WWII antibiotics and the readily available distribution of contraception allowed for a focus on more guilt free sex for pleasure than that of the generation before; one focused on establishment of the nuclear family. The 80s brought about the conservative idealism of the 1950s and a return to family values once again took a foothold.
