Discussions
To participate in the following Discussion Forums, go to this week’s Discussion link in the left navigation: 1. Domains of Development
Identify the three domains of development, as described in Chapter 1 of the course text. Why is it essential to consider each domain when studying and discussing the theories of adult development? Provide an example of how one domain of development impacts the other two. Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)
TIP: Note that this discussion is asking you to: * identify the three domains of development, * describe why it is important to consider each domain in the study of adult development, * provide an example of how one domain of development impacts the other two.Note: For example, a person with Alzheimer’s undergoes a developmental change primarily focused on his/her cognitive abilities. However, the cognitive changes also impact his/her social and physical developments. It may be helpful if you type each heading first and then complete the information under each heading. This helps the reader quickly identify your activities and helps you know that you cover all of the requirements for this post. 1. Past and Present Experience

How will your life experiences prove beneficial as you move through your degree program? Briefly describe two life experiences and illustrate how each will be useful as you pursue academic goals. How can you reject the negative influences in your life and benefit from the positives to achieve success in your current stage of life? Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)TIP: Note that this discussion is asking you to address two items, based on the weekly reading: * identify the benefits of life experiences for the adult student, and describe two life experiences that will be useful as you pursue your degree, * evaluate how you can reject negative influences and benefit from positives during your current life stage.Note: It may be helpful if you type each heading first and then complete the information under each heading. This helps the reader quickly identify your activities and helps you know that you cover all of the requirements for this post.

Discussions
To participate in the following Discussion Forums, go to this week’s Discussion link in the left navigation: 1. Developmental TheoriesSelect one developmental theorist from Chapter 2, and briefly describe the chosen theory. Why does the chosen developmental theorist appeal to you? Relate the chosen theory to a recent or upcoming developmental stage or phase in your own life. Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)TIP: This discussion question addresses two areas: * briefly describe one developmental theory from Chapter 2. Theories presented in Chapter 2 include Erikson, Levinson, cognitive developmental theorists, Kohlberg, behavioral theorists, Bronfenbrenner, Holland, the eclectic theory, and the composite theory. * Describe why the chosen theory appeals to you, and relate it to a developmental life stage or phase. Examples of life stages or phases may include marriage, parenthood, career, a return to school, empty nest, grand parenting, etc. Keep in mind you will expand on this theoretical application in your reflective paper. 2. Academic ResearchThe internet is a vast repository of information, some being factual and others unreliable. What criteria can be used to determine if a web site is credible and accurate? For example, Wikipedia is a popular web site; however, it is not considered an academic resource and should not be used in written assignments. How will the use of Ashford’s Online Library aid you in finding credible resources to support your academic writing? Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)TIP: Drawing on information presented in this week’s reading and video, this discussion question asks you to address two items: * how to determine if information is credible, * the role of the online library in locating credible resources. Chapter 1 of the course text also included a section titled “Finding Information Online.” Keep in mind the final paper for this course requires that you integrate adult development theory. You will use information from the e-text, along with credible resources from the Ashford library as you write your reflective paper.Note: Also, remember the Teaching Assistant (TA) is available to help you with this process. You can contact your TA through the discussion link located in the left menu of class.

Assignments
To complete this assignment, go to this week’s Assignment link in the left navigation:
Step One, Written Assignment
First, review the Reflective Paper instructions. Then, read the sample paper. (See the Sample Reflective Paper in Week 3 of your online course.) This sample paper will give you an idea of what your final paper should look like. Then read the outline example, which relates specifically to Step One. The Sample Outline explains how to approach the paper. During Week Two, you will complete the following tasks related to your paper: 1. Title Page (APA format)
Check the information in the PSY202 Writing Guide for guidelines on how to format your title page. 2. Outline for Your Paper
Use the Sample Outline and Preliminary Outline Form provided to construct an outline for your paper. NOTE: Outlines are generally not required for Ashford University papers. However, an outline is required for this paper as a tool to help you plan your writing. Think about the answers to the questions posed in the Sample Outline. These answers will develop into the text of your paper. Your outline does not have to be complicated or extensive. It is a set of short points or phrases: the start of your essay plan. It is simply an opportunity to begin thinking about how to organize the story of your life thus far. In Step One of your paper (due in Week Two), this guidance should help you develop your outline by suggesting brief points to include in each section of the paper. In Step Two of your paper (due in Week Three), you will take the brief points in your outline and turn them into sentences and paragraphs. 3. Reference Page
Whenever you use ideas that are not your own (such as theories or concepts from your textbook or from articles on the online library), you must give credit to these sources in the text of your paper. You must also include a reference page at the end of the paper. Check the information in the PSY202 Writing Guide for guidelines on how to prepare your references. Begin by formatting the reference for your Adult Development book. The three pages (title page, outline, and reference page) must be in one document. The document must be completed in Microsoft Word, not Microsoft Works or another word processing program. (In other words, your document must be a file that has a .doc or .rtf extension at the end of the file name, not a .wps or a .wpd extension.)The three tasks above constitute Step One. When you have completed these tasks and have created one paper, submit the paper in the Week 2 Assignment basket in the dropbox of your online course. Your Teaching Assistant will return this paper to you with feedback to guide you in developing academic writing skills. You will have the opportunity to revise your Step One assignment before you add to the paper in Week Three.
You will receive 5 percent (points) for submitting this section of your paper.
Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Discussions
To participate in the following Discussion Forums, go to this week’s Discussion link in the left navigation: 1. Managing Stress

As an adult student, you may be challenged to satisfy multiple demands on your time and resources. How would you describe your current level of stress? What impact has stress had on your ability to perform in school and in life? What role does an effective time management plan play in alleviating stress? Based on the weekly reading and other credible resources, describe two techniques for reducing stress. Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)
TIP: This discussion asks you to complete four items: * describe your current level of stress, * address the impact of stress on school and life, * discuss the role of time management in alleviating stress, * illustrate two strategies for minimizing stress.Note: Strategies obtained from an outside resource, such as the course textbook, a journal article, or website must include an in-text citation and corresponding reference. Review the PSY202 Writing Guide in Week Two, along with the “APA Resources” section of the Ashford Writing Center (USER NAME: ashford; PASSWORD: student) for tips on including citations and references for quoted and paraphrased material. 1. Personality Theory and WorkUnderstanding that we are much more than our job title is an important part of developing a healthy and sustainable self-image, and many of us find our self-image through our jobs. * Which of Holland’s six personality types best describe you? (Review Table 2.1 in Chapter 2 for a list of personality types, characteristics, and matching careers.) * Is your current career or future career goals in line with a matching career for your personality type? * How might career satisfaction impact self-image?
Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)
TIP: To answer this discussion question: * review the section on “Work” in Chapter 3. * review John Holland’s Personality-Type theory in Chapter 2. Table 2.1 of the course text (Chapter 2) identifies the personality type, characteristics, and matching careers.

Assignments
To complete this assignment, go to this week’s Assignment link in the left navigation:
Step Two, Written Assignment
During Week Three, you will Complete Step Two of your Reflective Paper. (For your convenience, you may refer to the compiled instructions for writing the Reflective Paper.) You will write a draft of your Reflective Paper in full essay form. The introduction and body of your paper must be in full sentences and paragraphs. This is the next step of the writing process. NOTE: Although the headings Introduction, Body, and Conclusion are used here to separate the information, personal papers like your Reflective Paper in this class should not have any headings. The paper should flow smoothly from one paragraph to another.
As part of this step, search the University library for one source about adult learning that supports your position into your paper. You do this by clicking on the Library link in the left navigation of your online course. Review the Library Tutorial located in Week 2.
When you find a source you think might fit into your paper, add this source to your reference page. Since the articles in the library are available in both print and electronic form and since you are using the electronic/online version, use the appropriate format found in the Library Tutorial. 1. Introduction
Your introduction is a paragraph or two that includes a brief thesis statement and gives an overview of what you will cover in your paper. The thesis statement can be defined as a single sentence that creates a main focus for your paper. The introduction sets the stage for what is to follow in the body of the paper. It might be considered a brief description or synopsis of what the paper is about, much like the information you might find on the back cover or the inside cover of a novel to get your attention and to entice you to buy the book. Follow the guidelines below for preparing the introduction: * Repeat the title of your paper, centered, at the top of the page. * Do not use a heading for the introduction of your paper. * The introduction section should be brief and specific (one or two paragraphs), clearly stating what you intend to write about in your paper. * Clearly identify the topic or main focus of the paper (this statement, in effect, will become your thesis statement). * Briefly explain how you will approach the paper (provide your reader with a preview of what you intend to cover). 1. Body
The body of your paper will expand on the brief points or phrases you created in your outline and will relate different key points of your life story. Because this is a personal reflection paper, you will write it in the first person (meaning you will refer to yourself as “I” not as “the author,” which would be third person). When you begin writing research-based papers, you will use the third person. In addition to telling the narrative of your story by expanding the outline into full sentences and paragraphs, you also need to show how your story is explained by some of the theories from the Adult Development text. You demonstrate your understanding of a theory by giving examples from your life or from a situation you know that illustrate the theory. See the Sample Paper for guidelines.Part of the purpose for this Reflective Paper is to teach you how to cite (or give credit) to outside sources (references). Theories from your textbook that you link to your personal experiences and information you use from articles you select in the library are examples of outside sources; they are ideas that are not your own. Your outline should include at least two places in your paper in which you plan to include outside sources. Highlight these two places in your paper in yellow so that your Teaching Assistant knows to look at how you have cited your sources. You will not lose points if your sources are cited incorrectly at this point. The rest of your paper will be your own experiences and thoughts in your own words and will, therefore, not need citations.
When you write the body of your paper, your paragraphs need to be clear and cohesive. Below is one suggestion for structuring a paragraph. * Begin with the main idea for the paragraph. * Write each of your supporting points. * Add some additional explanation or discussion.
At the end of the paragraph, add a summary sentence and a transition that will lead the reader smoothly to the next paragraph. The introduction and body of your paper should consist of four to five double-spaced pages. (The title page and reference page do not count as part of the four to five pages.)
When you have finished writing the introduction and body of your paper, revise your Step One assignment and add the introduction and body to it, so that your paper now includes the following: * Title page * Outline * Introduction paragraph (with a thesis statement) * Body (paragraphs expanding on your outline) * Reference page
You will then have a good solid first draft of your paper. Congratulations! Submit this entire Microsoft Word document to your Teaching Assistant using the dropbox in your online course. (Reminder: Only .doc or .rtf file extensions are permitted.)
Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate this assignment.
You will receive 10 percent (points) for submitting this section of the paper. You are expected to do your best to complete the assignment as explained above. A full 10 percent (points) is very achievable!

Discussions
To participate in the following Discussion Forums, go to this week’s Discussion link in the left navigation: 1. Late Stage Adult Development

In many cultures, the last part of life is a subject that ranges from fear to celebration – from avoidance to serenity. In nearly every instance, it also invites self-reflection about the choices we make about how we live. Using your PSY 202 text, contrast at least two of the theories or perspectives from Chapter 5. How do each of these approaches inform you of late stage adult development – that is, what are the “take-away” lessons for your life? Ensure that you state the benefits and shortcomings of each, as well as which perspective holds promise help you make choices through life’s journey that leads to senior years. Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)
TIP: This discussion asks you to respond to four items: * based on the information covered in chapter 5, contrast two theories or perspectives from late stage adult development, * identify how each approach informs or impacts your life, particularly as you prepare for your senior years, * discuss the benefits (pros) and shortcomings (cons) of each perspective, * identify which perspective helps you to make choices as you move toward your senior years. 1. Goal Setting
Share one career, academic, and personal goal. Based on information found in the reading and video, describe your accountability plan for meeting each goal. Then, answer the following questions: Why is it important to write down goals and formulate a plan for meeting those goals? What role does accountability play in the pursuit of goals? Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)
TIP: This discussion question asks you to address two items: * list one career, academic and personal goal, and describe your plan for achieving each, * answer the two questions related to the role of formulating a plan and seeking accountability when setting goals.

Final Reflective Paper
You have already completed most of the work! During Weeks Four and Five, you will write a conclusion for your paper, revise and polish your paper, and then submit the final version of this progressive paper. This is the time to reflect upon and to integrate the changes suggested by your Teaching Assistant. If necessary, consult the PSY202 Writing Guide to understand the language and formatting suggestions. 1. Conclusion
First, write a conclusion for your paper. The conclusion creates closure for your paper and for your reader. It includes a brief summary of your paper and provides your final perspective on the topic. Your thesis statement should also be restated in the conclusion. Your conclusion should consist of at least four to five strong sentences and can be up to two paragraphs in length. 2. Compile and Polish Your Final Paper
The final version of your Reflective Paper must be a compilation of the following: * Title page * Outline * Introduction * Body of the paper * Conclusion * Reference page (last page)
By now, you will have feedback from your Teaching Assistant from Steps One and Two. Use that feedback to polish your paper. Then submit the final version of your Reflective Paper.
You will receive 15 percent (points) for submitting a polished final version of your paper. All submissions must show an effort to improve on the first draft by following the suggestions made by your Teaching Assistant. You are expected to do your best to complete the assignment as explained above. A full 15 percent (points) is very achievable!
For your convenience, you may refer to the compiled instructions for writing the Reflective Paper.
Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

I not only have myself to think about but two other people that I am responsible for. I try to lead by example when it comes to my kids. Completing my personal goal is one way that I can teach them. My professional goal is to have my own accounting/finance business within the next six years. In order to complete my professional goal I have to......

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Since words cannot fully describe the atmosphere at Sullivan University, please accept my personal invitation to visit and......
