Volcano Puu Oo is a volcano in Hawaii that is active currently. This volcano’s type is a volcanic cone. Puu Oo has been erupting since January 3, 1983. Puu Oo was originally nicknamed by volcanologists, Pu u O in 1965. Later though the elders of the Kalapana were given a choice to name the new hill and chose Pu u Oo which its current name is. Pu u Oo actually means hill of the digging stick. This meaning also translates to hill of the Oo Bird. Now I will tell you the recent activity starting with 2007.
2007: In 2007 Pu u Oo erupted and added 201 hectares (or 500 acres) to Kilauea’s Southern shore.
2011: On March 5, 2011 the floor of the Pu u Oo crater deflated then collapsed. Two hours later a new eruption occurred in Kilauea’s Middle East
