PUBLIC CORRUPTION
Public corruption is the term that explains; “which encompasses a large number of white collar criminal offenses. While the specific definitions of this offense will vary depending upon the state and jurisdiction, the general definition of public corruption is the offering, receiving or giving of preferential treatment or "favors" in exchange for money, property or other valuables. When in many states we have, public officials are involved in charges of public corruption. These cases involve officials who are accused of violating public trust.” (Criminal Defense Attorney, 2012) When you violate public trust you are facing serious charges; which would involve their jobs as well as facing a conviction.
In different cases where these types of offenses are conduct bribery has been known to keep different countries from fighting and having wars; it has been going on for centuries. If you take why we bribe it’s for our survival so that we want have to have wars; for instinct we do trades with different countries so that we can receive favors. Bribery can be good or bad in many different ways in life; it’s just the way you have to look at it at a different prospective. The government is very dishonest of how they have to handle different situation when dealing with briberies. In order for our country to survive we have to scratch another country back; take for instinct oil: until we find a better way to receive oil we must take bribes to take short cuts to that we can have oil and gas. When we start fighting with our allies this is when it will affect the United States in buying oil. This is when the government has to bribe so that we can continue on getting oil at a certain price. Bribery starts from the top and goes all the way down to the bottom of the government. Bribery also takes place in other areas; not just with the government but with certain people in higher places; judges, officers of the law, lawyers, and governors have used briberies to get things completed. Like, if somebody needed some land to sale and somebody in higher places needed to get that land from somebody else who is bidding on it that person would try to bribe to get that piece of land from that person. If you think that the government doesn’t bribe to get ahead, then you’re wrong. If you look at it bribing can go both ways good or bad.
Bribery has been going on for centuries that people is now just understand and realizing that bribery is wrong. Some officers even receive bribes on the streets. Some of these officers of the law receive bribes so that they can come up in rack, pull on the streets, and greed for money. Bribery is one offense that majority officers of the law take in consideration as one of their serious crimes. When one commits this crime on the streets are in a courtroom.

Public Corruption

...what is classified as public corruption. “Public corruption involves a breach of public trust and/or abuse of position by federal, state, or local officials and their private sector accomplices. By broad definition, a government official, whether elected, appointed or hired, may violate federal law when he/she asks, demands, solicits, accepts, or agrees to receive anything of value in return for being influenced in the performance of their official duties”(law.cornell.edu). This essay will discuss cultural gift giving traditions and public corruption, and my personal opinion on the idea that “Corruption is a Western Concept and whether it is practice in foreign societies, where giving a gift is not considered public corruption. In many countries it is customary and proper etiquette to greet political officials with a gift. “The social structure in some countries is based on the exchange of rewards for services rendered, and cannot survive in its absence”(iDebate.Org). I believe that any country can survive without corruption. Corruption places a limit on the amount of revenue the government receives & spends medicine, hospitals, roads, and police forces. However, there is not one country where Public Corruption does not exist, the effects of it are harmful but totally invisible to the naked eye and most people fail to realize that it exists unless they are directly affected by it. There a few things that one must consider in dealing with corruption 1) generalization, 2)...

Corruption in Healthcare Services in India

...Health care services in India are facing different challenges from inadequate finance and poor management to inequity in terms of quality and access (Ramani-Mavalankar, 2006). However, corruption is that underlying problem, which if not tackled, would prevent from resolving all other kinds of difficulties (Potter, 2003). Therefore, in this essay I have endeavoured to understand the forms in which corruption is prevalent in Indian Healthcare Services. Along with this, I have also tried to suggest certain measures which would help tackle corruption. The former president of Medical Council of India, Mr.Ketan Desai has been charged with corruption both the times he has been elected for the post. Despite his removal in 2001 following the charges, he was re-elected by the Government of India in 2009 (Pandya 2009). Thereafter in 2011 Mr Desai was arrested by the CBI for accepting a highly culpable amount of bribe from two medical colleges seeking recognition. (Chauhan, 2011). Mr Desai justifies the definition of corruption by Transparency International, as the result of misused powers to benefit personally instead of doing public welfare (Vian, 2007). Moreover, this definition would be appropriate for the Government of India who elected a person with history of fraud to be the president of the central health governing body of the nation. Health sector, in any nation, is a vast network involving different participants at each stage ( Hussmann,2011). Therefore it becomes difficult...

...Police corruption has become a very difficult and touchy topic to handle. Not only is it detrimental to the department, but it is something we can’t have in our community. Unfortunately it has become more and more common amongst the police departments in the United States. It has led to very bad cases such as crash in California and even the New Jersey state police lords of discipline. Police corruption can be easily solved, and it is very important to have programs like Internal Affairs to keep the officers in line.    A lot of people feel that with the structure of our system and so many loopholes everywhere else that it may be easy for a cop to be corrupt. The biggest reason that police corruption occurs is because the officers abuse their given authority because they feel they have the power to do what they want when they want. Another reason police corruption happens is because they hit a bust on drugs and a cop likes the drugs so they take a little bit and don’t tell anyone. This not only is wrong for an officer, but for anyone to do and it gives the criminal less of a charge because they weren’t sentenced with as much stuff as they really had when busted.   Police corruption falls into two different categories internal corruption and external corruption. Internal meaning it involves the people that work within the department, and external involves police contacts within the public. There are 3 things that must happen at the same time for a cop to be considered being...

Corruption In Prisons

...Within any establishment there is always chance for corruption. Not only prison staff, whose main goal is the reformation an inmate convicted of criminal wrongdoing, are immune. Correctional officer corruption can happen in many different type of methods might be smuggling, sexual favors for inmates, or wrongdoing of inmates. There are a different reasons of motivators or for correctional officers to become involved in this illegal acts. Corruption is a repeated hap in prisons in the nation and around the globe. The reason behind this is that jail/prison atmosphere provide for the variety of people with lost rights and people with power, plus not strict monitoring. This creates the likely possible corruption. This situations takes place under the certain circumstances. Once the wrong-doing is caught, a sort of correction process happens and wrongs are fixed. For this reason, the primary step in a promising plan to fix corruption from prisons/jails would be a strict monitoring and video tape all activities inside the prison/jail, and to give full access of operations to reliable media sources....

... An article on the FBI website stated that in order to have the discussion about police ethnics, the word integrity must be defined. Integrity is the sum of virtues required to bring about the general goals of protections and service to the public. The author, Rich Martin stated that the major cause of police corruption is mediocrity. It is the leadership’s responsibility to maintain a high level of conduct within a department to prevent the mediocre. He states that some reasons for the corruption is the work that police do. It is measured in results. Therefore, the officers will find ways to complete these tasks and some choose to cut corners or violate the law and not even consider it being unethical. (Martin, 2011) A report made by the National Police Misconduct reported in their Semi-Annual that there were 2, 854 law enforcement officers alleged to have engaged in misconduct. It also stated that there were 207 law enforcement leaders’ police chiefs or sheriffs that were cited in those reports. It included how many civilians that were involved in the law enforcement officer misconduct. It concluded that there were 2, 568 victims of reported police misconduct. ...The 2 Sides of Power Sam Pinsky Patrick Halpenny Wednesday November 13th, 2013 ENG4U Power is a very vague terminology. Power is like a disease, very epidemics. Power can be a success or a failure, depending on the individual. Power in the right hands creates justice. Power in the wrong hands creates injustices. It corrupts human feelings and converts friends into enemies, therefore having power in the wrong hands succeeds in persuading one, using the power in a cruel and oppressive way. In the novel "Kindred", written by Octavia Butler, the novel presents revolving themes like power corruption of emotion, friendship and racism. Most of the times possessing the power can destroy the freedom of others. Power corrupts human feelings. Whenever an individual achieves the power, one becomes a different person. Rufus, the main character in the novel, possessed the power after his father's death. He became very possessive, even to Dana. The first time when Rufus met Dana he had a good reputation and liked her very much. Later on as he became mature and powerful his friendship to Dana changed to possessive love. He became very jealous of Kevin and was eager to kill him. Whenever Dana asked if he had received a response from Kevin, he would deny it. That did not last long, she soon found out that Rufus betrayed her. ->quote This shows that power can corrupt human emotions entirely. Power can turn allies into enemies. Friendship can last...

Examples Of Power In Animal Farm By George Orwell

... “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely”(Lord Acton,1887) Power is something only the right person should have, it could turn into an absolute mess if it's not handled correctly. Having power means others look up to you, and you could change the way they see things. This effect a person has on someone could cause dangerous events. It can also cause something really good. Meaning the outcome of having power could be either positive or negative. A person could easily abuse power and think that people won’t retaliate. The book “Animal Farm” by George Orwell is a great example of how power can be abused. Mr.Jones, the owner of Manor Farm is an alcoholic who doesn’t treat his animals right. He sees it as he can do whatever he wants and nothing will happen. The animals decide take the power into their own hands. They are sick and tired of Mr.Jones treating them unfairly so they decide to start a revolution. In the book Mr.Jones comes back to the farm to try and take it back. The animals don't let him, they are in power now because Mr.Jones was abusing his. This shows how Mr.Jones using his power to hurt the animals turns into a negative thing. Once Mr.Jones loses his power and it turns over to Snowball. Snowball is a pig who decides to use his power to make the environment of the farm better for the animals. He sees this revolution as an opportunity to make things right. He starts getting the animals to be able to provide for themselves...

Corruption

...Discussion Board #2 Key Term: Corruption BUSI 604 Corruption I chose corruption as my key term since it has proved to be a serious problem for many countries throughout the world. It shockingly affects governments, businesses and institutions at all levels. I know while working in the banking industry, I had to follow many procedures put in place to help ensure that employees were not participating in corrupt activities or if there were it would be found rather quickly. What is corruption? It seems as time goes by it is harder to define corruption. The definition of corruption and what constitutes corruption may vary among the numerous countries around the world. But Transparency International defines it as “the abuse of entrusted power for private gain”. Many see corruption as a costly problem that is plaguing businesses, government and institutions. In a study conducted by Transparency International, a vast majority of the 107 countries surveyed thought corruption had increased within their own country. Forms of corruption include bribery, embezzlement, larceny, fraud and extortion. Although it is quite difficult to estimate the costs of corruption, the World Bank was able to measure the amount of bribes paid annually worldwide. They conservatively estimated one trillion dollars in bribes are paid each year. Seeing as corruption is such a costly problem, in many respects, many countries have been trying to combat corruption in a variety of ways such as laws and...

...Corruption Mbogo .w. Apollo( Moi). Professor’s Name Institution Name Course Name Date Corruption Corruption in a broad sense can be defined as the process in which an individual uses his/her power and influence to achieve what he/she wants. This usually happens in a number of ways ranging from corruption carried out by a single person to the one involving multiple individuals. Regardless of the tradition that one is affiliated in, the concept of corruption is both unethical and an unnecessary evil that works to retard development both at the micro and macro environments (Johnston, 2006). Attempting to inculcate corruption in certain cultures and justifying its desirability, is only a superficial effort, which at the long run legitimizes the already corrupted. Corruption is not a western concept; it is applicable in all societies, specifically because of the repercussions it poses. There is very shallow evidence presented to suggest that corruption is part of certain socio-cultural practices. Furthermore, holding that corruption is an inherent part of human culture is undermining efforts and the hope of improving their livelihood. This creates a culture of fear and consequently corruption thrives. Corruption exists in all societies more so in developing societies. The only difference that arises is that certain societies conceptualize it differently in an attempt to escape its consequences. Dealing with corruption is like an evolutionary process. The most developed...

...of the upper classes of society may commit are often more serious compared to the ones which the poor people commit and they may inflict greater damage on society. Crimes that involve great amounts of money or economic interests, such as bribery and corruption, are among the top crimes that adversely affect the entirety of society. Crimes of this nature are not sufficiently discussed at the academic level or as part of political agenda or debates. No human being or human-made system is free from corruption or fraud. Contrary to the popular belief, corruption, bribery and fraud are not problems specific to economically underdeveloped countries; on the contrary, these crimes are quite widespread in developed Western democracies, particularly in the US. Broadly speaking, these deviant behaviors, defined as “white-collar crimes,” can also referred to as “crimes of the powerful.” It was Edwin Hardin Sutherland, a US social scientist, who first coined this terminology in the literature of sociology and criminology. Crimes committed by individuals may vary depending on their social class es. There are certain significant differences between the petty crimes committed by blue-collar workers from lower social classes and the corruption crimes committed by white-collar workers from higher social classes. Relationship Between Power & Corruption Lotf

...How Are Power and Corruption Related? by Sebastian Sandoval "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." – Lord John Dalberg-Acton Macbeth and Lord of the Flies depict power and corruption. However in Macbeth's case it is his fear of being forgotten that leads to his ambitions for power and in turn corrupts him. In Lord of the Flies we see Jack's ambition to become chief corrupt him into doing whatever it takes to achieve that position. Both works seem to coincide with Hobbes theory that "man is naturally savage" and that savagery combined with the notion of power can only lead to one thing, corruption. In this essay the relationship between power and corruption will be explored through the lens of three texts: Macbeth by William Shakespeare (1623), Lord of the Flies by William Golding (1954), and Of Man, Being the First Part of Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes (1651). Let us begin with The Tragedy of Macbeth. Throughout the play, we see Macbeth change from a noble and brave soldier into a shadow of his former self. In the beginning we see an internal struggle with the decision to kill King Duncan. This is most clearly depicted in act I when Macbeth says, "We will proceed no further in this business. He hath honored me of late,"(1.7. 28-30 ). It is after the murder of Duncan that we begin to notice a sinister change. Macbeth begins to murder anyone who has or could get in his way even his friend Banquo. In act 3 Macbeth's plan is first revealed in his conversation...
