Punctuality

Punctuality is the characteristic of being able to complete a required task or fulfill a moral duty before or at a previously designated time. There is often an understanding that a small amount of lateness is acceptable; commonly ten or fifteen minutes in Western cultures. In some cultures, such as Japanese society, or in the military there basically is no allowance. Some cultures have an unspoken understanding that actual deadlines are different from stated deadlines; for example, it may be understood in a particular culture that people will turn up an hour later than advertised. In this case, since everyone understands that a 9am meeting will actually start around 10am, no-one is inconvenienced when everyone turns up at 10am. In cultures which value punctuality, being late is tantamount to showing disrespect for another's time and may be considered insulting. Most people regard lateness as a minor and pardonable offence and sometimes show up to engagements intentionally late, expecting the other party to easily forgive them. This attitude towards time is very common among young people and people without demanding or busy schedules. Being late communicates more than ‘something held me back for a few seconds’, it speaks volumes about your character, it has the ability to negatively affect the success of a mission and create an unfavorable reputation that would last many years.

When we are the one running late to a muster or other meeting we automatically expect to be forgiven and see nothing really wrong with our actions, but when we are the one who has to wait for someone running late, we see the importance of being on time and grasp the undesirability of lateness. When individuals are not punctual they cause a lot of inconvenience to others. People have to wait for them and waste their valuable time. Want of punctuality reveals want of culture and is discourteous to the person we fail. For many years, teachers have highlighted the importance of being punctual, not only for the other person’s sake but for one’s self. When we show up to a meeting at the exact time we say we would, we develop a sense of responsibility and pride for being able to do what we have said and are most likely to repeat the act.

Punctuality communicates discipline and reliability. Nobody penalizes a person who is punctual, he/she is seen as serious and professional. Using the business world as an example, many successful businessmen stress the importance of punctuality in their success. Many say it is their secret. All of us are not born with the virtue of punctuality. We have to learn it and make it part of who we are. Only constant work and practice can make this a habit.

More than anything punctuality communicates respect for other people and interest in the purpose of the meeting. It makes sense that we devote our time to things we consider important, thus people are honored when people report on time for meetings it means the meeting is important to us. Even worse than being late is being late with excuses, this only adds to an already questionable reputation because we shift blame to some other individual or process. If you are running late and there is nothing you can do to prevent it, it is best to contact the other person and inform them of your situation.

One of the great values of punctuality is that it gives discipline to life. We have to get up in time. We have to do things at the appointed time. All these entail a certain amount of sacrifice. It gets rid of laziness and removes our ‘take-it-easy- attitude’. A disciplined person very often gets recognition and social acceptance. He is wanted and appreciated. Therefore, punctuality can make us socially acceptable people. Another significant benefit of punctuality is that it provides plenty of time to do our work correctly and properly. Doing things hurriedly or haphazardly can have disastrous consequences. When we do things in time, there is a much better chance that they end up better in the long run.
It is well accepted that being on time and ready to work will make you a more productive and well respected member of any organization. The same is true in the Navy. However that is not the extent of the importance of being punctual in the military. All sailors must be accounted for. My being at the appointed place at the appointed time is critical to all levels of the chain of command.

My supervisor is responsible for my whereabouts during working hours and my POOW is responsible for my whereabouts when I am scheduled for watch standing. And up the chain it goes from there. If I am not where I am supposed to be when I am supposed to be there then they are not able to account for me. They then have to report me missing to the chain of command. If they then are not able to make contact with me, a search must be made. This costs valuable man-hours and unnecessary hardship on my shipmates. As a vital member of this organization, when I am not at my appointed place those around me must take on the tasks that I would be doing. Being punctual, for any member of the armed forces, is extremely important to the defense of the United States of America.

Working as a Hospital Corpsman and dealing with patients, it is imperative to arrive early. We are not only representing ourselves but the flagship of military medicine. As a military member we depend on each other to support the mission, if one link in the chain is weak, we are all weak. The lives of our patients and fellow service members that trust us to care for them depends everyone doing their job together. Part of that job is arriving in a timely manner, without punctuality and discipline we are nothing. The entire health care system, as well as the world’s greatest in military medicine, would be nothing without these values.

Working to care for retired veterans, wounded warriors, active duty, and family members alike is very important. Without punctuality and discipline we cannot provide adequate care to those in need of our help. Arriving on time shows the patients they are in capable hands and have no need to worry. One of the many things we strive for as Hospital Corpsman and Medics is the comfort of our patients, if they observe us arriving late to work they may have doubt we are capable of providing the necessary care they need.

Being punctual is useful in all aspects of life whether it be in the military or civilian world. If you worked as a lawyer and had a big case you needed to appear for in court and showed up late, you would not be allowed to speak on behalf of your client and would lose your case. If you are a parent and your children attend day care you would pay extra money to have someone stay with them because you were not on time to pick them up. The extra money that was spent to pay for a mistake you made could be put to use to have a college fund set up for your children.

If you arrive late to work you may lose your job, and would have to look for a new one. Employers do a background check before hiring and would see that you were let go because of tardiness. This may influence an employer to not hire you and without a job there would be no money. You would not be able to provide for yourself and would have to resort to either living off of somebody else until you could find a job or living on the streets.

Punctuality

...Wikipedia, Punctuality is the characteristic of being able to complete a required task or fulfill an obligation before or at a previously designated time. "Punctual" is often used synonymously with "on time." It is a common misconception that punctual can also, when talking about grammar, mean "to be accurate." In western cultures, punctuality means being ahead ten to fifteen minutes earlier in a given time period. As for eastern cultures, punctuality or being punctual is quite a challenge in their daily life. Punctuality is a good quality. Punctuality is quite a kin to regularity. Regularity means working as per rules, regulations and programme of time. That being said, punctuality shows ones discipline about time. Like they always say, time is of the essence or time is gold, we can’t bring back time so it is really not necessary to waste it. It also means working as per the programme of time. Punctuality involves time factor. We are to see that we are working strictly according to the time fixed. This is punctuality. If we be punctual, we can finish up our work at right time. Punctuality checks unnecessary wastage of time. Time is very valuable for us. We can save it only by punctuality. Time and tide wait for none. Seconds, minutes, hours and days pass by in right order. There is a maxim "We should hold the time by the forelock". If we be punctual, a single second of us will never go waste. The English men are very punctual. Punctuality Speech

...Punctuality Good morning everyone! Before I give out my speech, I want to ask all of you a question. How many of you have never been late? Odds are none of you! This is because in our nature we see punctuality as flexible. In my speech I’m going to talk about whether punctuality is an important matter in our daily lives or not. Firstly, what is punctuality? Well… punctuality is the act of being on time and being able to do a task in the required time. Picture the situation: imagine yourself sitting in a court waiting for your lawyer to arrive. He arrives late and due to their lack of punctuality you are left without a lawyer. The court session begins and you are being grilled by the opposing attorney and in the end you lose the case and the judge gives you a harsh sentence. And to think, all of this is because of your lawyer’s lack of punctuality. A punctual person is appreciated because he is aware that time is precious. "Time and tide wait for no man", how true is it!? If a person is unpunctual, it shows that either the person is unprofessional or that he has no value for the other person's time. This spreads to his reputation also. A punctual person is valued and respected. Remember, it is the difference of only a few seconds in catching a train or missing it! Therefore to catch the train of life always be on time. Punctuality is not strictly a matter of one’s busyness; the busiest people are often the most punctual, while those with the...

Philosophy of Life

...Time is life Time is money; time is life, especially in this modern society of ours. It is important not only to businessmen but to people from all walks of life. Punctuality is a habit. We can, if we like, get into the habit of doing things at the right time. But it is not easy to do this. Many people have a tendency for being late for one reason or another. No one likes to wait but we often let people wait for us, don’t we? It is much easier to put things off, and say we will do them tomorrow or next week. Because it is easy to be unpunctual, many of us get into the bad habit of always being late for everything. And once we get into this bad habit, it is every hard to get out of it. An unpunctual person is an enemy to himself, and a nuisance to everyone else. In school, the boy who is always late and behind with his lessons gets into trouble and learns little. An unpunctual clerk soon will lose his job. And a friend who always keeps you waiting may lose your friendship. The idea of punctuality is very important. You lose out on opportunities, respect and time when you are late. To be punctual means to do what you should do on time, and a punctual person is in the habit of doing things at the proper time and is never late for his appointments-which is especially important in the current, fast developing society. To a worker, time is productivity. To students, time is...

Dedication

...Dedication Written by Tina Jo Ponce Dedication is the quality of being devoted or committed to significant others or a cause. I am dedicated to my children, family, work and school. I feel that I must always put forth my best effort and strive to better the lives of my children or be there for my family. As for work, I must always look out for the needs of my co-workers and for the customers that walk through our doors. As for school, I am always eager to go to school and learn what I am taught and be able to apply the lessons to my everyday life. I want to strive to earn good grades and to learn new facts, concepts and theories. With my dedication to so many groups and organizations I have very little time for myself. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed that I do not know what to do. Also with being devoted to so many people trying to give adequate time to all of them and making sure the project at hand is done on a timely basis and high quality. The drawbacks of my dedication are heavily outweighed by the positive effects of my attitude and actions. Our society today has changed so much that one of the failings is the lack of dedication and self-responsibility people have for others and their work. I want to be a good role model for my children and fellow employees by letting them see that it is really important that we have self-discipline, time management and the importance of setting priorities. By doing all these things I feel a point of self-worth and gratification that...

Dang, this is going to be a long day you groan to yourself as you roll over out of your very warm and inviting bed. It is made especially more difficult given that your girlfriend lies on the other side of it wishing your departure would not occur so quickly. However, it is yourself that knows the reason for why you are leaving; it is because the bills have to be paid somehow. She working two part time jobs to help in paying the basic bills like water, electricity, and all that food you two consume, especially given the fact that both of your friends come over, quite often, you note. All those purchases from iTunes and Xbox live; they add up quite quickly. To the tune of around $300 per month quickly! Then you must also add into this the rent which, miraculously, isn’t getting any cheaper. In fact, that darn flyer that was stuck in your door the other day brought you the joyous news that in fact, it is going to raise up by $50 per month, starting next month! Thanks for the warning bud, you think to yourself. This is why you must get up and start to prepare for your interview at 1 P.M. You have to drive off of the motivation of what had happened to your friend, Steve, a few weeks back. There is no way you cannot allow for...

Personal Responsibility Outline

...Personal Success and College Even though some students manage to get through college without any sense of personal responsibility, to succeed in college you need to have a strong sense of personal responsibility because time management is key to being successful in college and you must properly prepare for every test and paper. Personal responsibility should be broke down into three major factors first being a good strong sense in personal responsibility followed by being properly prepared and good time management. To succeed in college you need to have a strong sense of personal responsibility. In order to have a sense of what personal responsibility is one must come up with their own definition of what that would entail and mean on a personal level. You have to assess yourself and most importantly be true to yourself, don’t lie cause then you will just be cheating yourself. I define personal responsibility as a way to better yourself. If you are responsible for your own success and take it serious then you can never fail yourself. You have to set goals and stay on track to succeed with hard work and discipline. Manage your time and resources, don’t slack or allow yourself to get lazy. I take my personal responsibility very serious; I want to succeed in college with excellent grades not just the sheepskin.
