The demographic changes in the Pyrmont-Ultimo area in the last 60 years has been unbelievable. In the early 1900’s, Pyrmont Ultimo was a thriving working community with a population of well above 16 000 people. Then in the 1950’s with the relocation of major industries such as shipyards and wool stores, the population dropped dramatically to about 5000 people. The population continued to decline into the early 1990’s and got to the stage where the population was less than 900 people.
