A Queen With the Heart of a King

One whom is to be considered, by many, as the greatest monarch in history would be Queen Elizabeth I. She is considered to be one of the important reigns in the world. Many questioned if she would be able to overcome the problems that were essential in becoming the queen of England. Queen Elizabeth I is the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn

Not only did she see the tragedy of her own mothers’ beheading, but she also saw the execution of one of her many step mothers. The constant bride changing had seemed to a partial responsibility of her refusal for marriage. Other reasons that were believed were to be at fault was; a fear of childbirth, religion, and the possibility of split power. Religion was a divisive issue, and
Elizabeth was scared that she would loose all her power to her husband if she were to have one. Elizabeth had seen the challenges and troubles of the royal marriages. She refused to live her life any way that resulted in her giving up her power. She refused and had no interest in sharing any bit of power with a spouse. This behavior earned her a nickname of The Virgin Queen. She was a queen whom was married to her job and her people and was totally okay with that. Elizabeth with her half brother were raised as Protestants. Her half sister Mary, which was older than Elizabeth was raised as a Catholic. In 1533 her brother Edward died. This resulted in Mary taking the throne. (#3) Mary was a Catholic and Elizabeth was a Protestant. “Mary was not a particularly popular monarch, and was suspicious of her Protestant half sister.” A man named, “Thomas Wyatt organized a rebellion against Mary in 1544 with the hopes of making Protestant-raised Elizabeth queen” (#5). Queen Elizabeth I Represented in Movies

...1. Introduction "I am called the Virgin Queen. Unmarried, I have no master. Childless, I am mother to my people. I am the queen, I am myself." This quote from the movie “Elizabeth: The Golden Age“ describes the fascination about Elizabeth I of England in few sentences. A woman, who could prevail in a male-dominated society. A woman, who waived her own fortune for the sake of her subjects. A woman, who influences the national pride of the English even today. So it is not surprising that there is plenty of literature, opera and movies about Elizabeth I. The following term paper examines three movies, where Elizabeth I is the protagonist. “Elizabeth“, with Cate Blanchett in the leading role, is about the days of her youth. The 1998 movie shows the development of a young princess, who was crowned after the death of her half sister Maria. The first years of her reign are very turbulent, because the creation of a Protestant Church by her father Henry VIII and the return to Catholicism under Maria split the nation. The inexperienced Elizabeth has to determine which religion should be the official one in order to prevent a civil war. Meanwhile her consultants give her advice to keep the line of succession by marriage. But to whom shall she entrust her heart and kingdom? At the end of the movie all problems are solved and Elizabeth creates the icon of the “virgin queen“. Nine years later, the sequel of the movie from 1998, “Elizabeth: The Golden Age“ was released. She is in her 26th...

In other words, defendants obtain the constitutional right to be represented by an attorney during a trial even if the defendant cannot afford one. When one cannot afford an attorney the government appoints one to handle one’s case, at no cost. At almost every important phase of the criminal process, the suspect has the right to a lawyer. The right to council is important to defendants because they are the ones who will be most likely facing charges and without the right to counsel defendants run the risk of serving a long term jail time and/or death. * This paper will analyze two cases and discuss how the historical development of right to counsel relates to the cases, when the right to counsel attaches to criminal procedure, whether the defendants in the cases exercised their right to self-representation, and the role of the attorneys in the cases as it applies to right to counsel. The reader will gain better knowledge of what the right to counsel is and whether or not one has the right to counsel based on their situation. How Historical...

An Analysis of Gender Roles in Disney Princess Films

...An Analysis of Gender Roles in Disney Princess Films Jasmit Singh 213749361 Traditional and Popular Culture – 1900 9.0 Susan Niazi – Tutorial 6 Whether it’s the colours they wear, the activities they engage in or how they behave, men and women are known to play different roles in society. These established gender roles “are not innate or natural but a product of society”. Children, adolescents and adults all learn gender roles through the environment they’re surrendered by. One of the many huge influencers that help shape gender roles is media. Although “there has been a lot of change over the years in terms of what is considered appropriate societal roles for men and women, this change is not reflected in contemporary film”. The ideology of mainstream media continues to focus on the males being the heads of society, which in result, shows an unequal representation of the females. From an early age, media puts an image into young minds, informing them how males and females should think, act, behave and appear. In many television shows and films, one can easily see the distinct difference between the role of a male and a female. Often films are enforcing stereotypical gender roles where the male is seen to holds more importance in society than the female. Amongst many film producing companies, Walt Disney Pictures for decades have been enforcing stereotypical gender roles in their princess films. Though it may not be outright obvious, Disney productions play a huge role...

Disney Princess Effect on Young Girls and Gender Role Perception

...see them as role models. From the dresses to the tiaras, the beauty to the fairy tale, Disney Princesses have a direct effect on young girls and their behavior. The media has been a powerful resource through which many young girls develop their identity and come to understand gender roles in society. Research indicates that watching televised gender portrayals has an effect on individuals’ gender based attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors (Mastro & Morawitz 131). These are the attitudes and beliefs that young girls who watch Disney princess films would inherit. Girls enjoy watching these films and see the beautiful characters overcome difficult trials, as well as fall in love with a handsome prince in the end. The overall message is not a realistic one, leaving many girls feeling self conscious and unhappy. The idea that beauty equals good and ugly equals evil can negatively impact the way a girl looks at herself or others. Girls will ultimately learn that what is beautiful is good. Snow White and Cinderella were attractive and charismatic while the witch and two stepsisters were unattractive and vile. And in the end, the princesses lived happily ever after. The purpose of this paper is to examine the portrayal of Disney Princesses from three different time periods and the impact they have on young girls attitudes and behaviors. The representations of these princesses may be whimsical and allow the children to enter a fantasyland, however, the real effect it has can be detrimental...
