Chocolate Package Design Combined with Price Setting: a Consumer Purchase Intention and Overall Impression Investigation

...impression investigation Cao Youjia, Wang Yicheng, Li Simei, Gao Junhong Abstract In our experiments, the research sheds light on consumers’ purchase intention and overall impression towards six types of combination of chocolate package and price: 1. aesthetic package with a relatively high price, 2. aesthetic package with an intermediate price, 3. aesthetic package with a relatively low price, 4.plain package with a relatively high price, 5.plain package with an intermediate price, 6.plain package with a relatively low price. After the six between-subject experiments, we find that package design and price setting do have influence on customers’ preference to purchase, but not as strong as our perception. On the other hand, the packaging has significance influence on the customers’ overall impression towards the product. The aesthetic package with the highest price leaves the customer the best impression. Implications for future application for businesses are discussed in the final part. Key words: Package design, price setting, analysis of variance, purchase intention. Introduction “Man shows that he is affected by appearance, by something that causes him pleasure over and above the immediate utility of the object” (Clay, 1908). Designing aesthetic products to satisfy the consumers’ need is of growing importance in marketing. As core attributes of product, such as quality and functionality, become increasingly homogeneous (Reimann, Schilke, & Thomas, 2010)...

...Literature Search For our project Literature search is one of the key exploratory studies that we conducted, in fact literature search was the very initial study that we began our project with. The website that turned out to be most helpful as far as gathering information of Nestle was concerned was www.nestle.com.pk FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE (DEC03-DEC07): FY07 was a good year for NPL as its top line reached a new landmark of PKR 28 billion following an excellent growth of 28% compared to FY06. Primary contribution came from its pillar product categories, milks, baby food and juices. Fresh milk volume grew by 29% over the same period last year; however, this was still not sufficient to meet production requirements for the year. The increasing sales trend (CAGR of 28% during FY03-FY07) is primarily attributed to continued focus on sales and marketing efforts, innovative strategies and a sound distribution network. This robust growth in sales translated into a solid increasing operating profit of Rs 3.53 billion, an increase of 33%. However, this primarily relates to higher fixed cost absorption from inventory that led to lower profitability in FY'06. In addition, efforts in 2007 include a favorable movement in sales mix and rigorous fixed cost control. The literature search helped us in gathering data regarding the competitors. On the web we found out who are the competitors of nestle in its juices line and more precisely in its orange juice. Literature search revealed...

Packaging

...Packaging and purchase decisions ABSTRACT - The importance of packaging design as a vehicle for communication and branding is growing in competitive markets for packaged food products. This research utilized a focus group methodology to understand consumer behaviour toward such products and how packaging elements can affect buying decisions. Visual package elements play a major role, representing the product for many consumers, especially in low involvement, and when they are rushed. Most focus group participants say they use label information, but they would like it if simplified. The challenge for researchers is to integrate packaging into an effective purchasing decision model, by understanding packaging elements as important marketing communications tools. Propositions for future research are proposed which will help in developing better understanding of consumer response to packaging elements. Introduction: packaging at the point of sale Packaging seems to be one of the most important factors in purchase decisions made at the point of sale (Prendergast and Pitt, 1996), where it becomes an essential part of the selling process (Rettie and Brewer, 2000). Packaged food products are moving into ever larger supermarkets and hypermarkets, and there is a proliferation of products, offering consumers vast choice. The competitive context is ever more intense, both in the retail store and household. With the move to self-service retail formats, packaging increases its key characteristic...

...Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND This chapter presents the introduction, statement of the problem, significance and scope and delimitation of the study. Introduction Pitt, B. (2006) stated that by employing the intellegence of natural systems we can create industry, buildings, even regional plans that see nature and commerce not as mutually exclusive but mutually coexisting. Most of the time, business and environment were categorized differently. Often, business is for the economy and environment is the welfare of our Mother Earth where in fact it can work interconnectedly. Both can associate and benefit each other. Micro, small and medium enterprises are defined as any business activity engaged in industry, agri-business or services whether single proprietorship, cooperative, partnership or corporation whose total assets inclusive of those arising from loans but exclusive of the land on which the particular business entity’s office, plant and equipment are situated. (Department of Trade and Industry [DTI], 2007) They are mostly affected by the non plastic ordinance. It is very important on how these small and medium enterprises comply with the Provincial Ordinance No.2012-09 because their consumers are major actors and they can minimize or eliminate the use of short-lived applications of plastics. Bulacan PCEDO (2005) revealed that Bulacan is considered the Small Medium Enterprises (SME) Capital of Region 3 because 35% of small and medium enterprises in Central...

...CONSUMER BEHAVIOR TOWARDS THE NEW PACKAGING OF FMCG PRODUCTS Mitul Deliya Assistant Professor, S. K. College of Business Management, Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan Email: deliya.mitul@gmail.com ABSTRACT The importance of packaging design as a vehicle for communication and branding is growing in competitive markets for packaged FMCG products. This research utilized a focus group methodology to understand consumer behavior toward such products.
