Table 2 shows that the highest number of both mothers and fathers of the student reached college. Forty three percent (43%) of the mothers reached college and forty one percent (41%) of the fathers reached college. Five mothers and four fathers of the students have only reached elementary school.
This means that parents who have reached college themselves are motivating their children to be more successful as well, probably they want them to reach the same educational level. This also becomes clear in the literature review (Mare and Chang, 2003). Furthermore they may regard it as important to influence their child to pursue this career, because it may provide the opportunity to reduce the likelihood of financial incapability.

The table presented above contains information about the student’s parent’s occupation. Most mothers of fourth year accountancy students are included in “others” category. The “others” category consist of parents unemployed and retired. The fathers of the students, twenty-three (23) or fourteen and ninety-five percent (14.95%) of the population belong to blue collar which appeared to be the highest group of father’s occupation. Four (4) mothers and four (4) fathers are deceased.**
Regarding the above mentioned, it should be noted that the occupation of the parents of the student is quite different from the career choice of the students themselves. This means that the occupation of the parents is not of influence on the motivation of the students to choose an accounting career. This finding is contradictive to the findings in the literature; (Whiston and Keller 2004) have example found that children usually identify themselves strongly with the occupation of the parents.
**A blue-collar worker is a working class person who performs manual labor. Blue-collar work may involve skilled or unskilled, manufacturing,mining, oil field, construction, mechanical, maintenance, technical installation and many other types of physical work. Often something is physically being built or maintained. Second largest group of father’s occupation is white collar. Unlike blue collar workers, white-collar worker typically performs work in an office environment and may involve sitting at a computer or desk. A third type of work is a service worker (pink collar) whose labor is related to customer interaction, entertainment, sales or other service oriented work. Many occupations blend blue, white and/or pink (service) industry categorizations.

This table shows the distribution of the combined monthly income of the family. It can be seen that the most of the parents of 4th year accountancy students earn between 16,000 – 20,000 pesos (26%) and eight percent (8%) earn between 31,000 – 35,000 pesos monthly. It can be noticed that one fourth (1/4) of the parents of fourth year accounting students is earning not enough to enroll their children in an accountancy program. It can be said that the income of the parents is not of influence on the motivation of the students to choose for an accounting career, most likely there are other sources of income than the earnings of parents which enable a student to choose accountancy as their program.
