Good Morning 9F and Mr Deegan

“In every outthrust headland, in every curving beach, in every grain of sand there is the story of the earth,” said the American marine biologist Rachel Carlson. And yet many of these stories were produced in many pieces of poetry.
Now, when you think about the stories of the Earth you may think about the Dinosaur age and the fossils of these ancient creatures. Or maybe you think of the Roman and Greek empires and their many weapons and structures – but I don’t want about discuss poems about the treasures of ancient armies or the magnificence of the ancient dinosaur age.
No, I want to talk to you about a poem about the stories of war. But not the poems about a war being resolved and the soldiers returning to their families. No, this poem is about the horrific deaths of soldiers, and their burials on the …show more content…
Don’t those phrases just roll off your tongue? This is why Slessor implemented rhythm. Because its phrases and rhythms like those two examples that engage the audience.
Slessor also uses onomatopoeia throughout ‘Beach Burial’ to give the audience a sense of what kind of sounds are implemented throughout the poem. It is through this onomatopoeia that the audience is able to recognise sounds that are occurring throughout the poem.
Onomatopoeia is evident in:
Stanza five which states “Between the sob and clubbing of the gunfire,” and stanza nine which states “The words choke as they begin.”
These examples of onomatopoeia give the audience a connection to the poem and what its meaning is. This poem provides words that connect with the senses and engage with the audience and add to the mood of the
